I have one of the new Keurig 2.0 machines and you CAN use all k-cups, no matter the brand. All you have to do is cut a small section of the foil on the lid off (with the edge on it that says Keurig) from one of the k-cups specifically made for the 2.0 machines. Then simply tape the small piece of foil to the top of your other lid. You want to make sure it lines up correctly. I heard you can do the same with the "My Cup" insert. I do this "hack" all the time and I have never had a problem. There are a lot of videos of youtube that show this probably better than I can explain it.
Great informational video, Nikki! I'm still old school and use my French press or make an entire pot of drip coffee whenever I want a cup of coffee. I've often thought a Keurig would be convenient for those quick, one-cups of whatever flavor, so everyone can have their favorites. However, I'm reeeally not a fan of companies that practice the philosophy of forcing you over a barrel into buying only their consumable products (especially when you've already lined their pockets with profits by purchasing their machine). But then I have pretty strong opinions on anyone trying to dictate to me about my personal preferences. I'm a much happier person maintaining my freedom to choose whatever I want, whenever I want. This type of business practice definitely rubs me the wrong way!! Sorry Keurig, you are now on my naughty list!
I purchased a smaller 2.0 Keurig coffee pot and you can use the regular K-Cups that are not Keurig or I also have a extra filter to use you're on coffee end that fits the 2.0 coffee pot maker
Hi Nikki, Thanks for your review. Our Keurig Platinum bit the dust so we were definitely in the market for another coffeemaker. Last week we settled on the Keurig 2.0, 560 model. Costco has them for $129 and it comes with 48 k-cups in several varieties. We are pleased with the versatility of the 2.0 with one exception; it makes a brewing sound that is louder than our old model. Though it's not obnoxious, I am going to verify with Keurig whether or not this is the proper function of the unit.
I bought the 2.0 / 425 model and loved the technology and everything about the machine EXCEPT for the coffee. Not only did my Gevalia coffee not taste the same as it did in my old Keurig it tore my stomach up. I ended up selling it. I still have my old Keurig and thank goodness it still works but when it bites the dust I may end up getting the K 50/55 model.
I have been eyeing a Keurig forever. Just haven't been able to make it happen. Plus, I'm the only coffee drinker in my house. This is why and why not for the purchase. Still, a heart's desire for me.
I tasted coffee before and it tastes bitter which sucks because I love the smell. I think I might just only buy the 2.0 to make hot cocoa only or I might think about starting to drink tea.
What a fabulous mother n law you have. In my house the Keurig would just be a counter ornament...LOL but, if I were to get one it would be the first one. We only drink 1 cup of coffee and tea a day. I love the style of it.
Heavenly Father works in mysterious ways. That sure was nice of your mother in law to be his agent with this new coffee maker. Enjoy in good health, many blessing.
Thank you Nikki for sharing your thoughts with us. I got this as a Christmas gift and did not know about the Keurig brand K cups only. I still love the coffee this machine makes. Merry Christmas
In January of 2016 I bought a 2.0, K350 I believe, I've been pleased with it, as I only have 1 cup per day, but last month the touchscreen went out 2 months after the warranty expired. Needless to say, I just ordered a brand new K50 classic online for $65.00 on sale, I will no longer recommend the 2.0 models as they should last a lot longer than that. A friend has the K50 and I believe his is 4 years old now, and another has the K15, hers is about 5 or 6, she purchased the K50 when I told her about the sale price I found, so the "Classic" models last a lot longer, so I hope this one lasts much longer than my 2.0!
they are really slick.. u only can use the kcups.. ty soooo much for dong this vid because i will not turn down a deal if i see other cups so i will be getting the "old" keurig
I think another important fact here is that you should use distilled water only in your regular Keurig, but should use tap water in your 2.0 because of the sensors, otherwise you get an Error message
My Tassimo is also like that, it reads the bar code and there are no caps from another brand that I can use with it but the coffee is really great. I have tasted coffee from diferent machines (have not drank from a keurig yet =D) and I think Tassimo is the best. More expensive but it's well worth the price. It's great to have the two. One great and one for everyday ;)
Great review Nikki. I heard about not being able to use other K-cups and that concerned me but I saw on their website that you can buy 5 cup sample packs of some of their coffees for around $4 so that's not bad. I still don't have a Keurig but maybe I will take the plunge when I need to upgrade.
my husband just bought me the 2.0 for xmas so far i am loving it does come with the pot but my downfall on that is it does not have a close for the spout it does not keep coffee hot long i have moved my old one to my beauty room for my anytime coffee t4s
Just curious. Do you find the needles get clogged on the 2.0 and it stops dispensing altogether??? And if so, how frequently do you find this happens??
hey sis..lov u so much.. know that i am always tuned in.. u inspire me so. ty for that also the 2.0 is on my christmas list so i am so glad u did this vid. merry christmas to u the hubby and those grown kids..lol..
I have the Platinum and love it. It makes 5 or 6 sizes. I am a coffee snob and refuse to be locked in to keurig brands. The 2.0 even won't let you brew keurig brand k cups unless they are recently made. VERY upset with Keurig for this! I was a loyal customer and bought everyone I know the Platinum. Now, there are already magnet hacks, but this is insane and bad marketing on their part. They will force people to buy other machines tha brew the older cup, and the 2.0 will be knocked down in price next year.
Thank you for posting this video Nikki! I was just looking at the new Keurig. I recently purchased one. I do like the carafe option. I don't have that one, but it's really nice.
They need to give you a show on HGTV hun you're so wonderful! Your home is stunning, thanks for sharing all your beauty with us. God Bless you and your fam! Merry Christmas xxx
@Kendra Burton she posted a teacup lamp tutorial in July of 2012 under the name of DIY-Teacup Lamp Tutorial Part I & DIY-Teacup Lamp Tutorial Part II ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cynqrYcri1M.html
Ok, Got a Keurig 2.0 for Christmas 2016. I love my coffee. I even use green coffee beans, roast them myself. You haven't tasted real coffee until you do that. It will make you giddy & actually has a sweet taste to it. But now the Keurig 2.0; Lot of money to spend for a coffee maker. Then I find out it was designed to only use Keurig brands of pods which are expensive as hell. Sort of like what HP did with their inkjet printers. reasonable price to buy it but cartridges are expensive. Money hungry greedy f$%@king companies. But it does make a great cup of coffee. My wife loves Hot Coco. But if you use some of the hack systems to get full menu, sorry, hot coco lovers are screwed. I believe in time, someone will come up with a full proof hack to show Keurig they can be defeated.
