Why

With the comments Jim Lovell (as played by Tom Hanks) made at the end of the movie, a later mission was not ensured. With public support for future missions dwindling, there likely would not have been a later mission. Therefore, Apollo 13 was likely Lovell's (and Fred Haise's) ONLY shot to walk on the moon, and he knew it.

​@@10Peter25 I'm sorry I didn't mean to downplay what was happening at that moment. You're absolutely right. They didn't even know if they would have an Apollo 14 at that point so Jim Lovell made the right call. I just meant that for some reason they went all the way up to 17. I'm not sure what changed. Maybe after the rescue of 13 that renewed people's interest and support. I don't know. Allen Shepard was the next man on to set foot on the moon on 14. That may have been Jim and his crew. we'll never know. What do you think?

@Norm Appleton Yes, I watched the movie... multiple times. How about you? We see in hindsight 50 years later that the Apollo Program would send four more missions to the moon, but Jim Lovell did not have the luxury of knowing what we know in hindsight. He had to make a decision without knowing for certain whether NASA would later send four more rockets to the moon before ending the Apollo Program. If you had watched the movie, you would also have known that Jim would have been sent to the back of the line for future missions had he withdrawn from Apollo 13. Therefore, had he even foreseen that NASA would send four more missions to the moon, he couldn't count on being assigned to one of those missions. Now, what was it you said about your lazy ignorance? 😉

I think they're talking about a scene with them standing near the launch site at night, which isn't in this video, and I believe only actually started IRL with the space shuttle.

It's Meadow Williams. She is a no name actress that married a vitamin mogul twice her age in 2010. He died and left her $800 million. Now she is an old no name actress.
