Kevin Brownlow interviewed in February 2012 after his "Those surprising silents" lecture in The Strand Hotel, Limerick, Ireland. Interview conducted by Darren Moloney. Film/Edit : Darren Moloney
My favorite film genius. I love this man. He is so accessible and friendly. I have been emailing him for years now, and I was amazed at his complete LACK of elitism. These movies are for everyone and he has been instrumental in illuminating an almost-lost art.
I'm pretty sure one of Kevin's life wishes is to restore and release the most complete version possible of Erich Von Stroheim's Greed. God, I hope he succeeds.
Could they have made more noise? I can admire the man for gamely carrying on without reacting to the bloody din off camera, but I can't say I'm impressed with the director and crew for recording it with all banging and clanging in the background!!
How very kind of you to say Robert. I was the sole person recording/filming and interviewing Kevin. This was after a long lecture given by Mr. Brownlow in Limerick. As a very last minute affair, I had no option to record anywhere else but directly opposite the hall. There just so happened to be a wedding immediately after the event. As soon as I started recording, the hotel staff descended onto the floor making all that noise. It was totally unforseen. Would you rather I stopped and cancelled the meeting altogether?. I suggest you go out and arrange to do this yourself. Many thanks for your respect and admiration for Kevin and the performance of my duties under the very difficult circumstances I was put in.
