Tbf, I don't agree with it, but I guess thats business, kinda reminds me of old school Nintendo, they would tell studios that if they wanted to make games for the Nes/Snes they weren't allowed to make them on any other system. It was crazy at first but eventually they eased up after PlayStation whisked many studios with its lax rules.
@@DanTheMan33088 It was actual Lee a Bridgestone tire commercial, that so happened to be related to getting a free Wii. Funny enough, he wasn't really being that KB like in it, he wasn't the person in charge talking in the commercial at least, like KB is in all the PlayStation ads LOL.

Had to look for my favorite commercial for Marketing course and I couldn't help but think of Kevin Butler I would always look forward to seeing a new commercial from him on like G4 or Spike where id mostly see them aahhh good times. this man was a gift to PlayStation
I grew up with Nintendo and Xbox (Still am with a Series X and Switch) but by god do I love Kevin Butler and how he really did single handedly save PlayStation. Each one of these commercials, I was laughing, he's a comedic genius and I love him, also I love that last vid of him, showing that Sony was very self aware about the PS3s terrible launch. I recently got a PS2 (Unrelated) and I'm just fascinated with the power that was the PlayStation brand, did you know that more PS1s were sold between 2000 and 2006 than the GameCube and Xbox? Did you know the PS2 sold more than the DS, did you know that the PS4 sold well over twice as much as the Xbox One? And lastly, did you know that PlayStation is the only subsidiary of Sony that's making money, it's actually keeping Sony afloat right now. I'm in love with this brand, and while I still prefer Xbox over this, I love my PS2 and I love the massive success story that is PlayStation
Aye but that was part of the "Hall of Play" videos. It was a marketing strategy put up on Facebook, lots of KB gold in there but I only wanted to put up that content, if I knew 100% what it all contained. Its very hard to find out now a decade later.
Yeah, Sony needs to bury that hatchet all ready. Imagine he showed up at the PS5 event tomorrow as an announcement that we will see him the rest of the year in marketing for the PS5. It would be just as big a win for us all and a huge bombshell as any game they will show tomorrow lol.
Just so everyone knows...the reason why Kevin Butler isn't in any present day Playstation commercials is because the guy who played KB went and did a Nintendo commercial for Mario Kart, which meant he broke his contract with Sony...but they settled with not taking legal action against him as long as he doesn't do any video game related commercials in the future...which includes Playstation...sad...but that's what happened...so now please shut the fuck up about asking Sony to bring KB back..it's never going to happen...because...fucking legal reasons...
It would've been funnier if his final commercial was Kevin getting fired for appearing in *that* commercial (if you didn't know, the actor who played Kevin Butler was fired for appearing in a commercial for Mario Kart Wii)
Not so much fired but definitely went to court over it. There didn't look to be any more KB marketing coming. I'm sure that's why he thought he could jump straight into an ad related to a rival company but Sony had their own issues with it because of his character pretty much being identical to KB in the Bridgestone commercial holding a Wii steering wheel of all things lol.
Also, the Move was so good it could be brought in to support PSVR, the biggest selling VR unit in the world. Move controllers are still literally being made and sold a decade later. Meanwhile Xbox One X died May 2020 when it ceased manufacturing only 2.5 years after release. Now THAT is an epic fail for all its overhype and marketing.
The original aired version was ".... that's how World War 1 started". I thought I'd go with the unaired version since people were more unfamiliar with it.
These were Sony's proudest moments in gaming. But unfortunately the company is run by lunatics and after Kevin's departure, it slowly started to lose steam. The PS4 was successful for the most part, I bought one, but we don't see advertising like this anymore. The corporate world has become too soft and are too busy trying to raise their woke ESG scores to actually deliver high quality content and advertising. I guess they forgot whose actually buying this stuff.
Man this brings back so many memories, getting rid of Kevin was a dumb decision even if the actor broke his contract, right now would be a perfect comeback for Kevin!

Yeah… I bought that Socom 4 with the PS Move bundle thanks to him… only to find out I wouldn’t like it but it was too late because GameStop wouldn’t take it back just a few hours after I bought it haha, I still have it still in the box with all the items still in their packaging bags

7 years ago I uploaded this video now. I sure wish it got a lot more views as I do believe its the only complete and longest KB compilation out there. I'm lucky it gets any views at all though being over 40 mins long.

@otacon6566 Same here. I worked in Gamestop in Ireland for 7 years starting in 2007. I used to put a lot of these videos on the screen behind the counter, especially at midnight launches for games 😁

In all honesty, it's not worth getting a PS3 now unless you plan on jailbreaking the system. Sony really shafted the ps3 over the years. They still haven't fixed the clock battery issue like they did with the PS4. Once that battery dies, the system won't read games due to the license not being verified.

Yeah, I loved the original store. Then in 2012 they updated it to load up like an actual PS3 game. It was a stark difference waiting 30 secs to get to the store as opposed to 2 secs lol. Then they carried that store over to PS4 and AT LEAST it was built into the OS like the original one on PS3.
We all know the legal stuff that happened with the actor and Sony and a Bridgestone commercial that featured Mario Kart but.... you are right, they should look past all that and bring him back for PS5. Loved the Kevin Butler series (what got me to ditch X-Box in favor of PlayStation, something that I’ve stuck with with the PS4). That being said I don’t get the new PS4 motto “greatness awaits). Those new commercials wouldn’t drag me in like the “dear PlayStation” series. Sony needs to go back to these or at least brainstorm some new original concepts.
I believe that they should bring this back to the PlayStation brand. Imagine what the PSVita could’ve accomplished, as well as the PS4. He was amazing!!
Well, the PS Vita could have accomplished so much more had they simply called it the PSP 2. Don't know about that, the slim PS3, 300 quid price drop and GOTY Uncharted 2 were launching regardless. And sadly he never made it over to Europe. But I would be lying if I said PlayStation didn't need him more than ever with Jim Lyan and Hermen Dulst making terrible decisions, destroying the PlayStation brand name, every single week since May 2021.
@@gernonjones8871 Yep, it's all going downhill this year. Games going to PC which then delay the studios' next big game, like what happened Guerilla and Horizon Forbidden West. Forcing Sony Bend to do things they don't want to and wouldn't let them do a Days Gone 2, the director with the studio 20 years walked out since. Hiding the fact Gran Turismo 7 and God of War Ragnorok are actually PS4 games for 12 months and 9 months after their announcements respectively before dropping that bombshell. Garbage lazy ports of PS4 games with identical visuals to PS4 Pro like with Ghost of Tsushima but they charged 30 quid for the upgrade, the scumbags. As a comparison, I just grabbed Skyrim rebuilt for PS5 for free yesterday. And so on and do forth. I can only tell them so many times how much they are screwing up and not listening on their own PS Blog.
