Kevin Costner would ‘like to’ return to ‘Yellowstone’ after drama: I’d have to ‘feel really comfortable’
Perhaps he will mount up after all.
For the last season of "Yellowstone," Kevin Costner expressed that he would "like to be able" to return, but a lot of things would need to happen for it to happen.
While attending CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas, Costner spoke with "Entertainment Tonight" about his new film, "Horizon: An American Saga." "I'd like to be able to do it but we haven't been able to," he said.
"At this point, we're at five [Yellowstone] seasons, but I thought I was going to make seven." They have a lot of other programs going on, so we'll see how it turns out-which is something I hope it does,” he said. "Perhaps it [will succeed]." Perhaps this will come full circle to me.
"I would love to do it if it does and I feel really comfortable with [it]."
It's unclear when "Yellowstone" will return for its last season or if Costner will make an appearance. Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that occurred last summer, filming for the second half of Season 5 was delayed, and the show had a rough start due to disagreements between co-creator Taylor Sheridan and Costner that made headlines.
Additionally, Costner said to "ET" that he considered what would happen to his "Yellowstone" character, John Dutton, the patriarch of a ranching family who was elected governor of Montana during the early part of Season 5.
Costner remarked, "You know, he needs to take the initiative in what transpires and I've kind of had my own fantasy how it might be." But Taylor isn't into it.
"A while ago, I told him as much. I had some ideas about how that might occur, but we'll have to wait and see.
During the weekend at the CMT Music Awards, Lainey Wilson, a co-star of the show, told "ET" that she had "no clue" about the future season and that she would be shocked if her character, Abby, didn't make an appearance in the last few episodes.
"I'll tell you the truth. Wilson remarked, "I'd be shocked." I will be startled by the way [series creator] Taylor Sheridan crafts his storylines; he simply has such a lovely knack of bringing things back and letting them go.
"Well, let's wait and see."
Costner, on the other hand, can now discuss "Horizon: An American Saga," his four-film Western epic that has been in the works for decades and follows the growth of the American West. It is set in the era before and after the Civil War.
The first two segments of the film are directed, produced, and starred by Costner. National cinemas will open Chapter 1 on June 28 and Chapter 2 on August 16.
Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, Will Patton, and Michael Rooker are among the film's all-star cast members.
Hayes, Costner's 15-year-old son, who will make his acting debut, is also a member of the cast.
He bears my character's name, which I chose. Hayes Ellison is the name of my character," Costner said to "ET." And I gave the character the name Hayes. I therefore thought to myself, "Man, I better get with it and make this movie," as I watched him grow up.
