On May 1st, 1993 the year of our lord, the Boston Celtics were playing the second game of their first round series against the young Charlotte Hornets. This would end up being Kevin's last game in the Boston Garden before he retired. He would end up scoring 30 points in 36 minutes and earning the love of Larry Bird, who the cameras cut to 78 times throughout the broadcast of this game.

In 1987, in his prime, McKale broke his foot which should have ended his season, but he refused to quit and played the rest of the season on a broken foot, AND played great. As awesome as that story is I wish that he didn’t play and got the surgery right away because he was never the same player. Prime McKale was so fun to watch!!

Love to see champions go out like champions. Watching Bird applaud McHale was touching.

too sad to watch all the way through...one by one the old Celtics fell to age and infirmitives....McHale played as though he was on a team from 1986 but when he turned around with the ball, there was no DJ or Ainge or Bird to pass it to....

A double overtime game in which neither team broke 100 - almost unimaginable now.

I think it’s important to realize what these players went thru back then This Celtics team made 4 straight finals and had deep playoff runs every year Guys didn’t take nights off like now... Mchale bird parish we’re playing 30-35 minutes night in and out... also back then traveling wasn’t what it was now... and they played back to back to back games. These players were great even at their ages

They were doing that when the game was more physical than it is today. I wonder what those guys think of load management.

These Hornets had potential to be a great team in the 90's with LJ, Mourning, Kendall Gil was with them here and went to Seattle the following year, but Hornets would get Hersey Hawkins, and they had some other talented players. It just didn't really work with LJ and Mourning.

Nice. I remember watching this game. McHale kicked arse! ...and then in game 4 at Charlotte they had a great come back. But Xavier McDaniels for some reason BACKED off Alonzo Mourning when only a few seconds were on the shot clock and Morning was at the top of the key. There was no time for Morning to drive or do anything but shoot...Xavier backed off. Morning shot the 20 footer in.

Yeah that was really weird, he should have gone after him, instead of waiting, maybe he thought he was going to drive to the basket, but there was only 3 seconds remaining, there wasn't time.

I forgot how openly rigged this series was for Charlotte

I don't think it was rigged, just the refs were really stupid and bad, not calling a goal tend on the Dee Brown alley hoop, I think because Charlotte was at home and they knew the fans would go mad on them probably.

@@Mrd9960 Celtics were also out with their best player from game 2-4, Reggie Lewis.

If Reggie Lewis doesn't go down, Celtics win this series.
