Kevin Myers is a national treasure. He speaks plainly about the issues the silent majority are deeply concerned about. Without free speech and thought there can be no free society. Keep battling on Kevin.
Some people think a lot of Kevin, I'm one that thinks a lot of him,I used to love his articles and columns, Keep on keeping on Kevin ! I share your views on many issues and admire your courage, and as Kevin does not use internet ,can some of his friends tell him that he has many admirers, some who were in Ireland
Myers was the first victim of the media who've used this tactic to rid journalists of independent thought - i.e one who cannot be controlled. His mistake is he's taking too long to lick his wounds, because of the fact he is from the "old media". No one cares about old media. Kevin needs to keep writing now more than ever. We need strong honest men like him. We need Kevin.
Rene Girard seems to have hit on a truth - we sacrifice those who go against the flow. If I remember correctly, he said we often raise their profile after the sacrifice. I suppose sacrificing the individual makes good sense from the point of view of maintaining the status quo. Truth is a great disruptor. Although not a believer, the situation is very well told in the story of Christ confronting the religious world of his day. The poet William Blake flies in the face of this 'virtue' that it is proper for one man to die to save the nation' with his opinion: 'He who would do good to another must do it in minute particulars: general good is the plea of the scoundrel, hypocrite and flatterer, for art and science cannot exist but in minutely organised particulars.'
Here's freedom to him That wad read; Here's freedom to him That wad write! There's nane ever feared That the truth should be heard But they wham the truth wad indite. Robert Burns
