''You wanna disrespect me and laugh about my shape.... it's OK, you're not the first and you won't be the last... I'm shaped to hurt people and you're shaped to be a male stripper....''
I'm from Quebec too, and I can tell you that indeed it's not your typical France french. It's much more like a dialect, with pretty much every region having its own variations, expressions and so on. We have a really rich language on that aspect and regard, but you can almost consider the way we speak as a lumberjack version of french haha
ViperRulerlm its quebècois' french, it's French with a biiiig accent, like if you had to compare, it's kinda very Scottish or Irish for a Londonian ear haha
Actually I'm from Quebec, too. I live something like 2 hours drive from where Kevin Steen lives. When we listen to French people talking, we say they got an accent. And vice-versa. A French is just like English or any other language for that matter. Depends on the region of the globe. Just take France for example. If you take someone from Marseilles and someone from Paris, they can't or barely can understand each other, because the accent is so different. I can't say it's the same in Quebec, where different people from different parts of the province can't understand each other, but there is some accents here and there, as well as many different expressions depending on the part of the province. @Tigsby The real comparison would be to compare Australia english to US english.
Mikkåel Yvessen It’s kinda weird, I speak French too and it’s kind of a mixed bag as to when I can understand someone from a different region. I can understand the Québécois most of the time but there are some words I can’t make out sometimes because their accent is different. But I think the differences are pretty exaggerated, other than the accent, everything else is more or less the same. And yeah, it’s basically like comparing US English to British or Australian English, we can understand each other for the most part (English is my first language), just different accents.
@@lalegende2746 There is also expressions and some sentence turns that is really different from place to place, you would be surprised to notice how Québécois can use different words to describe things... like saying " cagoule " in my birthplace city to mean a hoodie. When we get to other places they know we're from Drummondville just because of this haha but I get your point
Here's the translation, i tried my best because i'm not familiar with the Quebec accent. "Sylvain Grenier, friday April 17th (he said the venue but he talked too quickly), you'll make your debut at Ring Of Honor. I think there's many people, including me, that never thought that this could happen. But anyway, it will happen. When i challenged you I decided to be respectful because you make big things for wrestling in Quebec. You accomplished many things. But instead of answering my challenge you decided to be disrespectful. You can mock my shape, that don't hurt me, you're not the first, you won't be the last. All I can say is, I'm shaped to hurt and you, you shaped to be a male stripper (thanks to Robert Jr Boulanger) . You know it's ironic that you invite me into your wrestling school. Cause the first time I saw you it was in Jean Rougeau's School. You enter there, you knew nothing., you knew nothing about wrestling. I even think I was your first lock-up. Then you leave never to come back. Then we saw you back a few years later in WWE 4 times bigger. And since you returned to Quebec, you said high and proud that you're the best. But all you've done in the past 2 years was to sit down behind a table and announces others' fights. I'm not impressed. If you wanna prove the whole world that you're as good as you say you are. You better put everything on the table. Because on 17th it's not just me, it's El Generico, it's Brian Danielson that's waiting for you. I can't wait to see you on April 17th in the Ring Of Honor's ring. I'm all hyped."
The Fussel ne t'inquiète pas, monsieur!tu devrais entendre en anglais américain.c'est terrible, parce que nous avons des changements de sens tout le temps à nos paroles.
No, Quebecois IS French. It is one of the many varieties of French. Just like North African French, Belgian French, Swiss French, Haitian French, etc. French has many different accents, just like English has British, American, Australian, Irish, Indian, etc.
FYI, both Kevin and Sylvain are Québécois. Kevin is from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu(about 25 minutes from the U.S. border) and Sylvain is from Varennes(just northeast of Montréal).
Funny how so many people are commenting about his French, some even surprised to learn he's Québécois... Then again, how many French wrestlers from France (besides André) can YOU name? As for French Canadians, I can think of Dino Bravo, Mad Dog Vachon, Luna Vachon, Frenchie Martin, the Rougeau Brothers, Rick Martel, Pat Patterson, Sylvain Grenier, René Goguen (René Duprée), Robert Maillet (Kurrgan) etc...
Technically, Luna Vachon was not French Canadian, she was born in Atlanta and was the adoptive daughter of Paul "The Butcher" Vachon brother of Mad Dog and Vivian (who was also a wrestler). Other French Canadians you forgot : Maryse Pierre-Carl Ouellet aka Quebecer Pierre or Jean-Pierre Lafitte Luc Poirier aka Sniper from the Thruth Commission (more obscure) Lionel Giroux aka Little Beaver Claude Giroux aka Dink the Clown or Tiger Jackson Rami Sebei aka El Generico or Sami Zayn (born in Quebec of Syrian origins) Édouard Wiercowicz better known as Édouard Carpentier or the Flying Frenchman was a big name here in Quebec and was born in France.
So that was my translation. With that being said, I never thought Steen was from the Province of Quebec. For those who had difficulties to understand this video, even those who know the French language, just know there was lots of, say, "Quebec-isms" (or Quebec slang, if you will). That's why it's hard at times to clearly understand what he says. I hope I was helpful enough.
We use a lot of english words here, and french-ized english words. We have a kind of twisted way to speak, but that's what makes us interesting, for having met people of different nationalities and speaking different languages. Our accent is pretty much praised, and girls love it haha (especially english / american girls)
April 17th, Sylvain Grenier, youll make your ROH debut. Lots of people are surprised of your decision, including me. When I made the challenge at RDS (imagine ESPN in the province of Quebec), I showed respect in my request, since youve done a lot for Quebecs wrestling. In return, you decided not to show respect back and I have no problem with that. You wanna laugh at my shape ? No problem again, Im used to that. Im shaped enough to hurt people; youre shaped enough to be a male dancer.
French people, perhaps, but people who live in Québec and speak the french they learned there, we pretty much all speak the same way and nobody has trouble understanding anybody.
@BourgeoisBuffoon Did you know there's an episode of Dexter's Lab where he teaches himself french, but the disc skips so all he can say is "Omlette du fromage" for the whole episode? No? You didn't? Is that why you didn't get the joke? It all makes sense now. :)
It's strange hearing him speak French. I know he's from Quebec so Canadian fans may have heard it a million times, but going from only hearing him speak English to this fluid nearly 2-minute rant is just odd to hear.
Kevin indirectly called Grenier gay. When you say you're shaped to dance at 281 and make a funny questionable face followed by that statement, it was an indirect meaning. Besides, 9/10 strippers at the old 281 were known to be gay, so the rumor goes by guys at the gym who took a stab at stripping there. Also note that, Sylvain was SUPER close to Pat Peterson (RIP) and not just "hey, we'll talk next month" type of thing, so there's something that might be cooking there too.
How ironic is that you invited me to your wrestling school, since the 1st time I saw you was at Jacques Rougeaus school (another Quebec legend, btw). You knew nothing then, and I think I was your 1st lock-up (training partner ???). Then I saw you, years after that, in the WWE, probably 4 times bigger.
Don't say that our French isn't normal man. It's our own version. It actually developed from the first colonists and remained with some old way of saying things.
Its our accent bro , jus like people from UK have their own accent . If u go to Haiti they speak french with their accent same for Africa , Swiss , France . Their is no ''good'' way or I should say a ''right'' way to speak a language.
Since coming back in Quebec, you claim that youre the best in the territory. However, what youve done in the past 2 years is to sit behind a desk and comment on others matches (hes commentating TNA in French in Quebec). That doesnt impress me at all. So if you want to prove that youre as good as you claim, bring your best, because its not only me, but also El Generico and Bryan Danielson whos gonna welcome you (is he talking about Greniers opponents or about ROH as a whole ??).
pretty much just saying : Sylvain you knew nothing when you first started out then you went to WWE and now you just sit around and commentate you dont impress me etc...
DannyJ804 Yup it's his first language. Fun fact: apparently he learned English by learning and reciting Jim Ross' phrases and lines that he watched as a kid
