Some people don't understand that I enjoy spending long hours in my room reading, writing, and thinking without feeling a need for interaction. I needed this poem so much.

1. We introverts are not always the best at breaking the ice, so in order to get the ball rolling, we often have to resort to tactics that may seem obscure to your average extrovert. This may include subtle clearings of the throat, gentle hand gesturing, and numbers placed carefully into routine conversations where they normally do not belong. 2. You may be asking yourself “How can I be sure that I’m speaking to an actual introvert and not someone simply masquerading as one”, well, here are a few tell-tale signs. If the person wraps their arms around your shoulder as they’re introducing themselves to you for the first time: Probably not an introvert. If the person uses the words “unwind” and “nightclub” In the same sentence: Probably not an introvert. If the person attempts to engange in any conversation whatsoever about the weather and they are not from Minnesota: Probably not an introvert. 3. To set the record straight, I do not hate people. But I do get pretty damn tired of them sometimes. Just pretend for a second that my desire to socialise could be equated to my desire to exercise. This means that a quick jog around the block would be a lot like catching a cup of coffee with a friend, bar-hopping with buddies would be like finishing a 6-minute mile, and my senior prom was a little bit like running the iron-man in the middle of August. Now you see, I don’t hate talking to people any more than they hate a little bit of exercise but you wouldn’t challenge an Olympian to a marathon after he just finished a race. Understand that when I tell you I can’t hang out tonight, I just came back from a poetry jam, maybe it’s not because I hate you, maybe it’s because I’m tired. 4. There will be many times when you will be uncomfortable in my silence, unsure of how I am feeling. Understand, that just because I do not wear my heart on my sleeve for everyone to see does not mean that it beats any softer than yours. Do not confuse the stillness of the lips with the rhythm of apathy. Do not confuse the sound of words rattling off, 80 beats per minute, with the music of an actual conversation. Just because I cannot commit the act of small talk does not mean I don’t have huge things to say. Just because I find peace within myself does not mean I could ever stop wanting to love so hard, because 5. "I love you more than quite trips to the library" ---True love....they should make a hallmark card from this "I love you more than canceling friday night plans.." ---and when I thought things couldnt get any better....I would write this in a love letter to my boyfriend but then again he probably wouldnt get it... funny how that little sentence could mean so much yet it could potentialy leave me single... hahahaha.... Ever have such a crappy day you just wished you were an extrovert, you just wished you could change.... this funny yet heartfelt poem really hit home.

As an extrovert with social anxiety: try running that marathon all day almost every day. I unwind and recharge with social activity, but I'm so afraid of how people see me that I isolate myself. It's a horrible combination.

See and this is what my friends, and well everyone, doesn't get. I don't hate people, I just annoyed by too many of them for too long. I don't do crowds because people make me uncomfortable, I get grumpy at school because I'm tired from caring so much about what I'm saying and how people will take it, I don't make many friends because I'm bad at starting conversations, literally the list could go on for ages. Anyways, my point is that this poem finally makes me feel like someone gets me, and that's something I don't get to feel a lot. This poem will always be special to me. Always.

Definitely relating to the part on comparing social interaction with exercise, because for me interacting with other people is just so TIRING! After coming back from the mall yesterday, all I wanted to do was hide out in my room with some snacks =)

This was really cute and emotional and true. I love how he came full-circle back to conversation tactics all just to admit his feelings. It was very honest and beautiful.

I watched this when it was first uploaded. It's now 2018, and man, it's still the story of my life. I feel so understood. I love being an introvert.

Socializing is like exercising is so true. Everyone thinks I love to socialize all the time but I don't. Every time someone spends an entire day with me they end up thinking I'm in a bad mood. I'm not. I am just done talking for the day. I lost count how many times people have said, "What's wrong? You're not saying much today. Its not like you." My friends believe I always have something to say because they only spend a few hours in a day with me. However, I love that one line *SPOILER* "I love you like quiet walks to the library." (+)

When going to poetry club is the highlight of my week

Finally, we have a voice! We are not apathetic or shy or cold. We love and feel and speak. We don't hate to spend time with people; we just get worn out if we don't have a break to be alone. Don't pass us by just because we don't make the first approach.

This continues to be one of my absolute favorite poems. I have sent it to people just to explain why it is that I don't want to go out with people every night.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! *sighs* you have NO IDEA how many times I try to explain myself to other people when they ask me "Why don't you ever go out?" or "Why aren't you talking to me?" or "Do you even freaking like me?" and I'm like DUDE!!!!!! Don't you get that the fact that I, who NEVER does anything or speaks to people, have spent the ENTIRE day with you and am STILL willing to interrupt the writing/reading of my Friday night fanfic to talk to you on the phone should speak VOLUMES!!!!! about how much I like you?!??!?!

I am pretty sure that most people who know me would say I am an extrovet. But that comperison of being around people and doing exercise fits me so well. Yes, I talk much, but only because I am afraid of your questions. Yes, I talk loud and tell so many details about me to everyone. Bit only because the stories are picked by me and when you put yourself out there, show "everything" on the big stage nobody will ask for a look backstage. And yes, this is faking my charakter and many people realize after a while that I am somehow not honest with them, but I don't know how to stop. And sometimes there are moments when I can not play anylonger. Every actrice needs sometimes a break. And then I have no excuse, that I am acting totally diffrent and strange because somewhere inside of me I am really, really fucking afraid of people

I love this poem. As an introvert, it gets tiring having people assume my quietness means I'm depressed, shy, scared, etc. Let me get this straight. INTROVERT DOES NOT EQUAL SHY. It's just another type of personality. Just like being an extrovert does not make you obnoxious (yes, I do not think extroverts are obnoxious).

I remember when this poem was first put on RU-vid, and it meant something to me then. It mean something to me now. It’s a wonderful description of how I feel with friends and other loved ones.

This was absolutly beautiful !!! I know the feeling of getting tired of people or socializing and just want to be alone for a while I thought it was just me...

I broke down into tears while listening to this because a couple of days ago I found out my ex boyfriend cheated on me and we broke up but as we talked he brought up how I did'nt express my emotions as much and that i made him feel unwanted, meanwhile all I have to blame is my introversion.

Love this, first poem I've seen about being an introvert cause to be honest I have no friends rn but ppl do come to talk to me from time to time and when they do they always say "oh you seem so much nicer then what I thought" or "you always look like you wanna leave" it's tuff
