Key fob replacement in the Range Rover Sport or LR3 doesn't have to be a trip to the dealer. Luckily, you can find replacement key fobs online for relatively cheap, then it's just a matter of swapping out the essential components (old cut key and old chip) into the new shell. For my Range Rover Sport L320, I've done this repair twice, both times the old cut key would not fit into the aftermarket fob, so a little bit of filing of the base is needed, otherwise the new key is practically the same as the old one.
Items needed:
New shell: amzn.to/3Czpdb9 (this one comes with the screw that mine was missing)
Tools:
Ring pliers (optional): amzn.to/3AzDofK
Metal file (or a Dremel): amzn.to/2W6sS0M
Super glue: amzn.to/3kupBSh
Optional:
Use a silicone case to protect new fob: amzn.to/2XRR1sy

Thanks. Just swapped mine over. The new case key holder was slightly smaller so I had to sand down the back of my key a bit to slide in. Used all new case parts except my key.

Love your channel think it is one of the best for LR. Sorry for the late post on this. Really like the idea of actually swapping the key component as opposed to the whole "swing" mechanism as it will bind. On my 06 RRSC full size, not an LR3, there is a another step. On my car the original, non flip key key comes with an id46 proximity chip that is separate to the board and is usually hidden behind the rubber seal between the 2 halves of the key toward the front. Most of the ebay/amazon keys have one but it will not "talk" to the car and will not work. If your car has a proximity chip and you throw away the old key you will be in a world of hurt as the steering column will not unlock. What I did when I first got my truck was I cloned the chip using a $200 chip cloner that I then resold for $175. Watching this has made me decide to do a video on how I did this on my channel. Bottom line is if you have a vehicle where when you put the key near the ignition and you hear the steering column unlock you will need to transfer the chip, or clone thereof, from the original key. That would be nice but unfortunately the aftermarket case doesn't quite accommodate it, the new case is like 1mm too small. If the swing mechanism works with yours then definitely go for it.

Hazy, how about a video on when you are pumping gas or stops prematurely.

The pump shuts off because the valve on the bottom of the tip of the gas nozzle is occluded, this is how the pump knows when the gas is up to the level of the nozzle and to stop. It can shut off if the gas handle is held up by hand (it's supposed to just dangle outside the car), the gas is pumping too fast and splashing, or the pump nozzle itself is dirty. Usually it doesn't have to do with the vehicle itself. I would try using a different pump and not holding the nozzle with your hand while pumping the gas.

Just had mine change and now my Range won’t start the ignition, any advise you think should I do but the locking system and alarm works just not the ignition. I’ll appreciate for any help!

Was the chip damaged in any way? That's really the only reason I could think of. If you got a NEW chip, you will need to get it programed at the dealer before it will start the car.

Any Advice on replacing the battery? I know they are suppose to be rechargeable but Ive got a dead one that wont hold a charge.

Unfortunately you'll have to pry it open and will likely need a new case after, it's the same procedure as in the video but you replace the battery in the middle

Where did you find the replacement case that has the Land Rover logo on it? I could only find blank ones on eBay and Amazon. Thanks for the video, very helpful!

There must be some trademark issues with selling the fob with "land rover" seen in the photos on ebay since it's not a land rover official part. Keep searching and look at the reviews, you might have to email the seller to see if it has the logo, the exact one I bought it no longer listed but I believe most of the ones actually do have the logo they just aren't allowed to post that fact on ebay.

Can I use a keyless entry remote for my 2009 Range Rover sport ?

Only 2010 and on have keyless entry, unfortunately I don't believe there is a way to retrofit keyless entry to the L320 RRS unless you swap to an aftermarket system.

When you are done swapping the metal key to the new housing, you will need to have it programmed at the dealer in order to remote unlock/lock and actually start the car.

HEY HAZY, HOWS IT GOING, JASON HERE. 09 RRS HSE 4.4 . INCASE YOU FORGOT? LOLO ANYWAY SINCE WE TALKED LAST I REPLACED MY BCM AT THE DEALERSHIP! 1200 BUCKS AND THEN MY SOFT CLOSE TAILGATE DIDNT WORK AND THEY COULDNT FIGURE IT OUT, I FINALLY WENT AND GOT IT AND THEY DUDNT REPLACED TWO VERY VISIBLE RELAYS. BUT HERES MY NEW QUESTION, MY REAR WINDOW HEATER ISNT WORKING AND I DID REPLACE THAT RELAY, IT WAS A 5 BLADE 70AMP IN POSITION R9 IN THE ENGINE JUNCTION BOX. BUT WHAT I CANT FIND IS WHERE ARE WINDOW WIRES ARE CONNECTED TO POWER IN THE BACK? YOU CAN USUALLY SEE AROUND THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW WHERE THE WIRES IN THE GLASS CONNECT, BUT NOT ON OURS!! I ALREADY HAVE THE TAILGATE INTERIOR COVER OFF SO THE LATCHES AND SPEAKERS ARE ALL EXPOSED BUT I DONT SEE THE CONNECTION? IS IT UNDER THE SPOILER? SORRY FOR LENGTH! THANKS!

The coil wires should all feed to the left (drivers side in NA) side of the glass then the whole tailgate/glass assembly should connect to the power with a harness on the top of the glass. Check out these pictures for a little bit of clarity: tinyurl.com/mv5e37uw

The battery will charge automatically when placed in the ignition while you drive, it shouldn't need replacing very often

Yes, just stop when the chip is out and replace the battery with a new one

Why didn’t you just take the original key and the end mechanism and put it in the new case? Why did you have to pull the pin and remove the key?

The original key swing arm, for whatever reason, barely doesn't fit in these aftermarket cases so you need to transfer the key blade or it will jam. It's a little too thick.

I think it's illegal to advertise them as having "land Rover" printed on them unless they're genuine. That being said mine wasn't genuine and had "land Rover" printed on it, you'll have to check the comments or description carefully to see.

@@MEP412 I don't think there is, you can lock it 5 times and it never beeps. Only way it will honk is if you try to lock it while a door or the rear tailgate isn't closed all the way.

Why not just place the old Flip mechanism and key into new case with out unpinning it ?

The old flip mechanism is just barely too big and causes jamming since the new shell is aftermarket and not identical to the OEM one. You can certainly try the old flip mechanism and see if it works for you though.
