the one key played was the demo! usually recorded by a substitute singer or sometimes the producer to get a gist of how the song would sound like roughly. in the demo, the final lyrics haven't been written yet so it's still very rough.

They usually have so called "guide" for the song, which is the rough first version of the song recorded sometimes by the people who wrote the song or even by some other vocalist. It helps to plan the choreo and other things.

I spent more than an hour listening and watching your reaction and critique to Key's work and feel so fulfilled because as a creative I appreciate his and his team's hard work and the details they put into his album and your really bring it out in your video. I really really appreciate your video for Shinee Key. I know nothing about filming but I do believe I have judgment visions and I agree with what you said about filming (lighting and effect stuff). I am more about concept and creatives in terms of design, fashion, set design, album design, ... and in MV and photoshoots, without photography and filming knowledge and skill like you and his team, no one can bring those ideas of his to justice. I learn a lot from your video. Key's album always is art to my life. Thank you for another amazing video Genkila.

The international people/person on set was KANY, Beyonce’s choreographer! She choreographed for Gasoline alongside Kasper.

its super interesting to see the behind scenes, and its so nice to see Key be able to work so well with his team, and like seriously this man needs to be given an official title for how much he contributes to the creativity, ideas, and details. Its so much work and takes so much thought

Don’t you think Key is supposed to be credited as creative director? I mean this was all Key’s doing, from choosing songs, lyrics, album concept, mv concept, styles n make up, even camera angles n lightings. Also his concepts were also often used for other group’s mv. SM should give him more credits gosh he’s a genius. When you said you thought they were gonna end up fighting, yes they fought a lot in the meeting room but I don’t think they’d show it in the video. Key struggled, he fought, and he won. Same thing happened when he did Bad Love. Our guy here is a fighter. What he wants, he gets. Thank you for your reactions. Always enjoy your videos.

I'm a little late, but I'd like to mention that I always look forward to seeing your comments on this type of video! I know absolutely nothing about recordings, but I'm always learning a little bit and little by little I'm paying more attention to these details as I watch MVs ☺️ BTW, in addition to the official videos from SHINee's channel, there's also the behind scenes of the performance recorded at Studio Choom, in case it's interesting to watch 🙂

I think they get many stages on the song production, as he had a lot of time to develop it, they probably had a rough version and in that point they start choreo-vocals-mv production, so he could have had an also rough choreo when recording the vocals, that way they are updating each other simultaneously Btw, the live countdown was super wholesome, him being excited about his songs and packaging, always with his sass and sarcasm too 🤭

27:22 They're using what's called a "Guide Song". After a track's lyrics are written and they have a general idea of the melody and feeling of the production, they record a simple form of the track using a different vocalist from the main artist and sometimes even as little as just a piano or guitar to demonstrate the flow of the song. This helps them determine pre-production song/lyric changes, choreo, and even get an idea of how they want an MV to go if it's a title track. Then during the actual studio recording, they re-record with the finalized vocalist(s) and work on enhancing the full production. During this time you'll get a lot of song changes, decisions on harmonies and ad-libs, music production flourishes, etc. Notice in the recording for "Villain" at 18:06 you actually hear the song with English lyrics that then Jeno re-recorded with the Korean lyrics. Most likely this was a guide song that was done by a western producer that Key and SM either purchased or perhaps worked with for the track.
