Key scheduling is a handy and mostly unknown technique Revit offers us. In this quick video, I'll show you how it works!
I hope you enjoy the session and learn something new! Feel free to comment any feedback/questions below, or follow my channel if you enjoyed this.

Great key schedule applications. To prevent the loss of data, hiding key schedules is good. there is also keeping the ownership of key schedules that I can see.
@AussieBIMGuru

Thank! Yes hiding is almost essential in larger high trust environments, it would be nice if they were more embedded into the project for safekeeping. Retaining ownership is another option if workshared for sure, although not sure if an owned parameter can be populated by others - I think it can though.

True, key schedule is very useful with one drawback. (I always filter out in schedule so no one can see in schedule 😀)

Gavin, great vision. I use the Key Schedule, in a similar manner. The Briefing, Concept stage is fraught with many considerations, Form, Function, Cost (Client asks ...thoughts? Mr Architect!), we try to get on without ado! (LOL) One aspect we don't include is the minimum Performance requirements of an element, given the Building Type and local regulations. Each project we re-invent the compliance effort. These are good to get early ideas in colour and layout. And the Shared Parameters, inclusion will be a big improvement. Nice One.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 4 года назад
Yeah shared parameters will make this far more usable for performance needs!

@@AussieBIMGuru People don't use this typically for the removal of the flexibility, it doesn't provide. The same reason is good to get constraints that give one place for update and make the modelling a conscious effort/pleasure.

Gavin, great video as always! We started to use keys in our project and it has been a game changer. Now, I've been meaning to ask... Do you know if there is a way to set keys using Dynamo? I've been digging in the forums, but I can't seem to find anything.
@AussieBIMGuru

Sure is! Here is an example from the forums: forum.dynamobim.com/t/assigning-values-for-the-key-name-parameter-in-a-key-schedule-parameter/96415

I use key schedules for plumbing fixtures. there is a lot of info that is needed but is too much to model. So when I assign L-1 to a lavatory all the info gets filled out on the schedule.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 4 года назад
Great application! I expect this is often much easier for standardized spec readouts and performance requirements.

Thanks.. Is it possible to create key schedule from an excel file using Dynamo or Python?

Yes, this is an example topic discussing it on the forums: forum.dynamobim.com/t/dynamo-graph-from-excel-to-key-schedule/30254/2

This was really useful, as usual Gavin :) I am only left wondering how to better organize my schedules on a template level. I like to prepare some basic ones for Sketch Design (related to rooms, levels, massing...), some crucial ones for Detailed Design (related to municipality indexes, permeability, volume, etc.) and some detailed ones for Construction Documents (more complex to set up but necessary, specially to withdraw measures and quantities of gypsum walls, wood elements, paint areas, etc...). I feel like this 3 levels (organization schemes) work very well for us, but I was wondering if you have any other suggestions, also from a BIM Manager point of view, for auditing the model, etc... Thank you again for all the great content! Cheers :D

Schedules I usually make 1 or 2 levels depending on project type/phase. I usually rely on naming conventions a bit to keep it sorted as well as using browser depth. I keep keys at 1 level together, or 2 levels by category. I always name key schedules with the category name as the prefixm Ideally keys should capture all data needed when it's known (e.g. floor finish may be irrelevant at the sketch phase, but no harm in having a default setting for it as a key already).

Hi Gavin, thank you for the fantastic video. I have an inquiry about a concrete structure that I want to inspect. I want to add a parameter named 'deficit' and create a list of inside parameters under the name 'deficit.' When I press on this list, it should display three problems: heavy shear, heavy deflection, and no deficit. If I choose, for example, 'heavy shear,' another parameter should advise on the type of test, such as UPV. How can I achieve this? Thanks.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 7 месяцев назад
So to achieve that using key schedules you would need to make your Key schedule using a key parameter for deficit, then you could use it to set the value of other shared parameters added as project parameters (e.g. Test type). If you use Revit 2022+ they can be shared, but before then it was only possible using non-shared project parameters.

Gavin, thanks for sharing! Great technique, definitely useful :) I'm sure you're aware, and that this video has a different target audience, but maybe it would benefit your dynamo series - there is a way to auto orientate windows using Dynamo ;) I have the script if you wanna have a look, lemme know. Cheers, Adam
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 4 года назад
Interesting, what exactly do you mean by auto-orientate? I'm guessing it means that windows are placed to optimize solar gain?
@AKP_TECH
@AKP_TECH 4 года назад
@@AussieBIMGuru The windows orientation is deduced based on project orientation, that's all :)
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 4 года назад
@@AKP_TECH ah so for things like Basix/ESD requirements I assume? I have a script in Dynamo for this also, handy little script. Might share it at a later date as a video.
