In Episode 2 of our new Start To Finish Series Featuring Greg Wells, Greg focused on Keyboards and recording a scratch piano track for Bryce Drew's song, "Lucky Number," and then edited the piano to create a distinctive feel as the foundation to build the track.
In our latest article, we focus on Greg’s use of the UAD Neve 33609 and Focusrite d3 compressors to control the dynamics of the piano, with examples of the effect different attack settings can have, and how to use clip gain to control piano dynamics further. Keyboards can be tricky to mix.

you guys should do a video series with Greg where he writes and produces a track with an artist with Greg playing all the instruments. i would love to his creative process and see how he collaborates with and develops an artists' idea. he never shows off his chops and he is a monster on every instrument. Make it happen it would be a super popular video series!

This video is actually a snippet of a series Greg did with me (the artist) doing just that. The full Start-to-Finish series is live on Puremix right now.

Most of the time using 2 different compressors means searching for a kind of sound! hope this help, if you ever need to discuss comp techniques we advise you to join our group on Facebook facebook.com/groups/puremixers/ cheers

Right. Just when it seems like he's about to explain it he goes off on a tangent and then when he gets back to it he kind of explains the feeling he's going for but doesn't really elaborate on the actual comp settings he's using and why those work for the sound he wants.
