That's certainly the best sounding V series mod on RU-vid. Just got myself a V1 with KPro Browns, and although I'll be keeping these switches for now, I wanna try those other mods to see how they sound on mine.
Great work on the vid! If I had to give a small touch of critique- to really help out stabilizers, when lubing them, try and have no protrusions of lubricant on either side of the wire, but just a long, even coat. It makes it just a bit more consistent, and I believe you may have left out wirebalancing which does help quite a bit. For holee mod as well, the wire will come in contact with that pad and adding just a bit of lube on the padding. A question or two as well- I don't really get mixing 205g0 and dielectric grease, as for the wire, it's best to use as thick a grease as possible. With a good coating it will not cause any sluggishness and is the best for longevity. Overall fantastic video! Keep up the great work.
would you recommend holee modding with band aids or medical tape? I just ordered some DG and Krytox to fix my stabs rattle (which I found one of the few weak points of the new keychron v series, the stabs really do need some love) but I don't have those dedicated stab films
It's tricky. Different stabs do better with different thicknesses. Less is more most of the time. Start with the thinnest on the spacebar and see how it is. Sometimes just lube is fine on the shorter stabs.
@@oscarnaranjo844 Having built a lot of keyboards I would say the stock stabs are "ok" but not great. I'm planning to put in upgraded stabs when I get around to it. Durock V2 are great, but my current favorite is OwlStabs. They are both around $20 so whether or not it's worth putting them in an entry-level keeb is a fair question.
Great video. Therapeutic, even. Newb here. I just purchased the V5 with the browns. I assume the foam dampened the tone, but what was the tape mod for? How much effect on tone did the the replaced switches have?
Hello Noah. I have a video going up tonight that shows no tape mod. The tape mod is subtle, but I find it amplifies the keyboard a little, which isn't always good. PE foam, holee mod, and new lube switches is a must for me. I'm not a fan of the kpro switches. The brown kpros are OK, see my V4 video for that.
yeah you should get some other switches, and a pbt keycap set, not that cheap hollow keycaps that is standard in the board. That would improve the sound greatly.
Hi there keeb, I was wondering how the keyboard is holding up with the tape mod? And what type you used / recommend. Because I’m soon to build a new keyboard with this and I’m nervous I might damage the pcb or something.
Hey! Tape mod is always fine, to the point that lots of keyboards come with a bespoke tape mod sheet now. Just use masking tape. Not so sticky that it will damage or leave residue on the PCB. I use wider tape for less lines of tape, but others just use the 1" stuff. 2 or 3 layers usually does the trick.
@@keebface - I just tape modded the keyboard I think something worth mentioning for the noobs is that there are little + signs around the screw holes so you can cut holes into the right spots for the tape just wanted to mention
Thank you for this video! One of the few on RU-vid covering the V2 - which has been a surprisingly awesome keyboard especially for the price. Mine sounds fantastic, thocky, and smooth. Subbed!
I bought the razer v3 mini yesterday i think im going to return it tomorrow and order this bad boy you think this is the best keyboard of the v line up?
They're all exactly the same in terms of build quality so it's all about your preferred layout. I like the V1 (which I also did a video on) as I prefer 75% layout.
@@dabubbo Depends on what other lubes you are comparing it to. PTFE grease-based lubes are preferred because they do not degrade and tend to stay in place. 205g0 is a nice weight for many applications. Tribosys 3203 is fairly similar.
I just built a V2, and I found that the top case pushing on the plate transferred vibration to the case making it sound hollow, despite the pad. My solution was to use strips of electrical tape on the underside of the top edges that touch the plate, trimmed so it wouldn't be visible. Made a huge difference in sound. This is not "the" force break mod, since it's not about isolating top and bottom cases, but it is a form of force break mod that has the same effect. I did something similar for where the bottom case standoffs meet the plate and where the plate standoffs meet the PCB.
I don't understand the question? Cherry reds are switches. These keycaps are compatible with switches in North or South orientation if this is what you mean? And they are for MX switches with the cross on the stem.
@@keebfaceThats funny. I have some roosters too and at first I thought it was my roosters that were crowing. Good to know that they were coming from your video and not from my backyard.
