Every year on christmas day, KFC Japan experiences it's busiest day of the year. KFC in Japan has become the equivalent of an annual christmas dinner, in a day that is not only awesome but often feels like an alternate reality.
GET SPEAKING WITH A JAPANESE PERSON! (iTalki): promos.italki.c...
This year I wanted a piece of the action and ordered from the "Premium Series Menu" - KFC Japan's unique seasonal menu.
Experience KFC in a whole new light; from KFC on air planes and KFC's in Tokyo with Whisky bars, to microwaving red wine chicken and out-running "north Korean" jet fighters. It's all here.

Because countries like Japan have stricter requirements on selling actual "food" whereas here in the states, you are free to basically sell fried sofa cushions given how lax regulation is...and people eat the shit anyway. Gotta love unregulated capitalism.

Hentai Commander I am only partly joking: www.chowhound.com/post/buns-taste-gym-mats-azodicarbonamide-game-mcdonalds-dunkin-816257 When people say they want to take a trip to the gym after fast food, I do not think they mean they want to EAT the gym, but that is what people are eating. The same chemical used to treat gym mats is being put in most US fast food to preserve it.

It's the consumer market, which is discerning, and the positioning of the brand. Japan has really high standards for food, so even Convenience Store food is fresh and delicious. Also, KFC entered into Japan--as it did in many Asian markets--as an aspirational luxury-within-reach brand. It's not the place where crack whores and the homeless pick at their scabs. It's a legit place to go on a date.

You never go by a pie shop that has a sign to pre-order your Holiday pies?
@swicheroo1
@swicheroo1 5 лет назад
To the OP: During Christmas in Los Angeles, you need to pre-order your Thanksgiving meals from grocery stores and restaurants. They're set menus and the stores need to be able to get specialty items like Free Range OrganicTurkeys. They'll advertise a month ahead of time and will only make a few extra, beyond the pre-orders. This way, they don't lose profit for unclaimed meals.
@SamLyn
@SamLyn 4 года назад
Ithritable people do that all the time in the states. Lots of people prefer to get their holiday spread from the store so they don’t have to cook all day. Grocery stores and some restaurants have special holiday menus with meat and side items but you have to order it ahead of time so they know how much to make. Maybe it’s uncommon in other parts of the world, I never thought about it.

Dude, this really hits "home" for me... Reminds me of the time my friends and I were visiting Japan around 2005 or so, and planned to have a Thanksgiving dinner at some local Peruvian restaurant (just outside Tokyo) that offered turkey on their menu. So we made a reservation and when we arrived there was no turkey to be found... Apparently we had to order the turkey ahead of time since it's rarely available (of course we were supposed to know that?) So I was determined and said screw it let's hit the City, and took the train down to Yokohama walked into the first KFC we could find and had chicken instead... Hey it may not had been turkey, but with all the proper side dishes it worked. And we had our low quality Thanksgiving in Japan.

Japan really knows how to make a big profit from foreign originated things, I love it! Christmas in the states has become more of a less religious thing it seems. To be honest, my favorite part of Christmas are the decorations and exclusive things you can purchase or will see in public during the season! Even though you won't get a 2 week holiday vacation or get to spend Christmas with the family...it seems like a ton of fun to witness and experience what Japan has to offer for Christmas. They manage to still have a crap ton of Christmas decor, sales, and exclusive products...I'm excited to be in Japan for Christmas one day! Hoping that this year you can show us exactly what it's like in the holiday season there...
@ninjajake1225
@ninjajake1225 9 лет назад
There is no doubt that the holiday has become less religious here in America. It's more about gift-giving, and using it as an excuse to buy yourself a gift lol. I would honestly say that Christmas celebrated in America and Japan aren't too different depending on who you talk to. I do think that Japan seems more festive around that time of year, but that could just be my perception.
@claudeyaz
@claudeyaz 9 лет назад
// jessica // it is only a religious holiday to those who are forcing themselves to celebrate it that way. In reality xmas is a worldwide commercial holiday to celebrate bonds between people and to give gifts and eat sweets. But here in the states if someone says that outloud, be prepared to face the wrath of bible thumpers.

And Christmas as a Christian festival has its origins in a number of pagan/roman traditions. Christmas has been secularised for quite a while now. I too use Christmas to meet family/friends, exchange gifts, eat too much food, and become blind drunk. I don't need to be religious to do that.

In Sweden (where I live) and other northern european countries, "Christmas" is still called "Jul" from the norse mythology of "Yule".

I now feel a powerful need to educate Japan in how to do it properly, though admittedly my way of doing it properly does not involve turkey or Jesus as I'm not American or religious. But it should definitely involve a real tree, log fire, roast animal, lots of gravy and potatoes and enough chocolate and brandy to make you sick twice over.

But seriously, this chicken doesn't look too good. I don't know why people would buy it, except for very good promotion. It looks like microwave food, that I can get from the supermarket for 5€
