Your review was pretty good but I disagree that SRK didn't appreciate Kajol's character in the second half. I don't know how it came out in the subtitles but their conversation was mostly fun banter like people who have been married for a while.
*Fun fact:* Karan johar once said in an interview that Kareena Kapoor while shooting the death scene in this movie cried her eyes out and did over acting and once the shot was over, while walking out of the set she asked "By the way, who died?". Karan johar laughs about this till date that she cried so much in the shot without even knowing that who had died. 😂
SRK was not ashamed of Kajol lol. That was playful bickering, to show that they've a friendly relationship, because she's into customs and traditions and he's not as much, and so they bicker over that. Plus she's loud mouthed and so he tries to reign her in because he wants to integrate in the British society so he's willing to adopt mannerisms, while she wants to retain her Indian-ness. It was meant to be funny while indicating the character traits of both. It wasn't trying to show that he's ashamed of her. And the scene where they tell each other that "I don't like you" is actually a call-back to 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', another SRK-Kajol film, directed by Johar. It wasn't meant to be taken that seriously. I think you got this one wrong Jaby.
Hollywood movies are like a plane journey...straight to the point...bollywood movies are like train journey...you will get to see mountains, rivers, waterfalls forests and everything good or bad thats why they make you feel nostalgic...titanic was a hollywood movie which had it all like bollywood movies thats why its nostalgic too...
I completely agree with Achara if this film came out today it would be shot very differently! Family dramas especially in the early 2000s are very over the top and dramatic but the emotional moments hit hard for real! That’s why this movie is so loved ❤️
True archara.. in early 2000s a little over the top acting was in trend at that time.. and Kareena Kapoor's Poo character was to entertain and still it's one of the character people love haha.. not anyone can pull the character like her!😂
@@ritesh1571 actually he is no.longer doing that. Swades, Chak De, MNIK, Dear Zindagi etc. His movies are not working sometines due to script and sometimes due to the audience not being evolved enough
@SILVERSTONE STALIN the way u are commenting each and every comment on this video and the other video before this proves that either u are a rival fan or a bhakt
You're judging SRK's acting from a western point-of-view & western culture is not melodramatic. India as a culture is melo-dramatic so SRK's acting is good. His acting reflects the culture.
Srk's acting is melodramatic even in Indian context. He is, for most of the time, over the board. He had once shuddered while "kkkkkiran" and that was eons back. That kind of continued almost everytime he's sad or mad. Nothing against SRK.. loved him in My name is Khan.
@@mansis5622, I mean, that's the point. Indians are melodramatic which is why his acting is also like that. Indians like it because that's just how we are. We are emotional & loud & expressive. It's natural for us to be that way. That's why SRK acts that way & also because the movie's genre is also similar. Westerners don't like this acting style because they think it's unnatural to be that way.
@@mansis5622, that "Kkkkiran" is iconic. People remember is even after decades. Also, SRK acting in that movie (Darr) as a psychopath was fantastic. That's how psychopaths are - quiet in front of people & crazy/loud when they are alone.
@@Aryan_editK No denial to the emotional part. We go over board with our emotions too and cinema is reflective of that (or.. maybe vice versa). What SRK has done in K3G, and in almost all the other movies, was appreciated by masses back then. We are guilty of enjoying these growing up as well (and still are taken back in the time by some movies). The thing is, as an audience our taste has evolved. The very reason why sometimes we cringe at stuff that once made a huge deal. The very reason why massy movies are rarely critically acclaimed. The very reason why many of SRK's movies tank at box office today. Now what westerners see, echoes our evolved take at sentiments/drama. No denial some of the classics are classics because of those signature acting styles but I guess what I am getting to is, things have pretty much changed in the past decade or so. Nevertheless, we love Bollywood dil se :)
@@mansis5622, I agree it's evolving but that "emotionality" is still there. Even today the recent biggest blockbusters (2019/pre-pandemic) are movies like War, Total Dhamaal, Good News, & Uri which are totally "Bollywood-like". Personally, I embrace the emotionality/melodrama in our movies & I am definitely proud of it because it's just the kind of people we are as Indians, so I don't find it as guilty pleasure. I just watched Rang De Basanti (which is Bollywood-like) last night & we can definitely make such fastastic movies with our essence of emotionality in it, without being "Hollywood-like" (less melodramatic).
After this emotional one, the comedy movie "Hera Pheri" will be grate. After so many years and so many times, it still makes us laugh whenever we watch it. Every scene of it has turned into a meme now. Also has sequel "Phir Hera Pheri".
Indian storytelling has a lot of stuff drawn from Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. You'll find their themes and subplots and moral compass everywhere. The dutiful son being exiled due to disagreement and yet graciously obeys his father, the devoted younger brother who's more practical and fights for his brother , the desire within family to have the older , ideal son back ....it's all very Ramayana.
@Akanksha Sharma I didn't say it's exact Ramayana. But a lot of themes and morality from these epics is drawn in a lot of modern storytelling. Ex: Bahubali has strong elements of Mahabharata.
My favorite moment of this film is also when Srk met Jaya Bachchan. The mother-son reunion scene is truly very emotional and perhaps the best moment ever of Indian cinema. Kabhi Khushi kabhi gham is definitely the most amazing family entertainer of all time.
No please.. The kid anjali annoys me and there are lot of cringe moments in that movie.. But when were kid we enjoyed a lot.. Its better they watch RHTDM
I totally agree that the next movie they should go gor is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or can be DDLJ too because these movies had been some greatest movies of SRK's and Kajol's career which made them what they are today and have some really heart touching and entertaining stories...
@@abhishekdewangan4257 yeah i really like kkhh but i think it would too much if they watch one more karan johar's film wouldn't it? I think they need to watch hum dil de chuke sanam so they get to know one of Salman's and Aishwarya's hit.
Kareena's Pooh character is actually the most iconic thing about the whole movie. All the actresses then and now from Priyanka to Alia were girl crushing on Pooh. And Kareena once mentioned it was actually one of the most difficult characters to play as it was extremely over the top, high energy and obnoxious and yet she still had to make it loveable and likeable.
I would suggest "FIZA", Mrs. Jaya Bacchan has performed exceptionally well in this movie, plus wonderful performances by Karishma Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan & Manoj Bajpai.
Karan johar once said he got in tears while taking the scenes of kajol and srk in their beautiful song , suraj hua maddham , many songs in the movies specially for srk r based on their real chemistry too , usaully with kajol and rani 👌🏻 there were beautiful scenes of kajol and srk love and hrithik and kareena love but they had to cut them out because some of the hrithik and kareena,s take were cloudy and had poor quality !!
@@Uzair__Khan_ i think Its bcoz indians are more expressive like we can express feeling through our face without even talking. Thats the reason why in order to be called good actors they should be able to convey everything through their face. But now it has changed a bit.
Omg Jaby, Shah Rukh didn't feel ashamed of Kajol! It was fun banter between them which you can have only with your loved ones. I do the same with my bestfriends and that's why we have such long lasting pure relationships ❤️
For someone who is now watching Indian films for a few years, Jabby's aesthetic handicap - relative to melodrama as an art form- is truly startling. His not so subtle Obsession with subtlety is, to be frank, rather vulgar and completely inappropriate for someone making a career out of Indian films where melodrama is well developed, deeply layered and consciously adopted cinematic choice.
That marital bliss scene between shahrukh and kajol in the bole chudiyan song was a wish for their fans to see for a long time !! It was a golden scene ever in their history together !!
The best thing about your reactions that I like is they are very comprehensive. It touches all the angles of the film. There were things which I never thought of and after hearing to your reaction on quite a few of those points I could acknowledge them. I was like yes, you are right, I didn't think of it when I watched the movie but you are spot on. I must say, Achara is too good and able to relate quite well to all the Indian movies in general, probably because of her Asian background.
I love love love how Achara completely understands every emotion. She was saying exactly the same things that I would have while watching the movie. This review was amazing you guys ❤️❤️❤️ we want more. More such classical movies. I really recommend DEVDAS. It's a classic by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. You guys should explore that after Karan Johar.
We have to remember this was released 20 years ago and Karan Johar's 2nd Movie. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was his 1st. So taking that into consideration, it was an Epic Movie!!!
I loved this watch along ...it was really very pleasant to watch such a classic film after such a long time even when we have watched it like hundred times ...You should try such more hindi classic films.....like Mohabbatein, kuch kuch hota hai, hum aapke hain kaun maybe...just giving some suggestions!
Kareena made me cringe so much that I have to skip her parts every time! My favorite scene is when Kajol breaks the vase for the second time. I fell off the couch laughing at that scene😂
The film is a bollywood classic for a reason. Even 20 years later, watched by 2 people from completely different cultures, still connect to the core emotion and story of the movie !! Yes, the acting is over the top melodramatic and so are some of the dialogues but the movie will be loved and relevant forever because of the emotions that is brings out of people no matter how many times one has seen the movie !!
Well traditionally father held god like position, his words were final. His ego supreme, deliberately nurtured or carried forward . There are truck load of stories of indian folk lore and history where children followed father's word as a final commandment without taking in account for right or wrong . Ramayan, Mahabharata are few of such stories
Achara is a natural empath...it was great to watch Jaby struggling to control himself! The movie is MELODRAMA in all caps! But it really tugs at our heartstrings!
One thing is obvious now..Jaby doesn't like SRK crying...Or the way he cries...Well, I have watched many SRK movies and I haven't had any issue with his crying. I think the way he cry in movies makes it more real. He is not crying for camera but crying in a moment No one looks good while crying😂😂whether he stummers while crying or not it makes it real and it made me emotional . By the way love you work Jaby and Achara
i think that's the think that triggers people the most, but honestly i'm shaking af when i'm crying and if i'm crying while talking i always get very choked up, so like i kinda really feel SRK crying here
@@xxShadowOfTheWolfxx yes correct..The way of laughing or crying differs with each being..So SRK crying in his own way..Not crying like every other person ..And that's make it real and unique
This was Avengers infinity wars for bollywood at that time. Achara s explanation for Kajol's character was spot on. It was interesting to see Jaby's perspective on Amitabh Bacchan and American version. This film embodies bollywood and Indian culture from an overview except Oxford style schools, helicopter pads and crores of rupees of estate.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam.. Kuch Kuch hota hai.. DDLJ, Kal ho na ho... Mohabattein... Veer Zara.. Dil to Pagal hai... There is a reason SRK is called the King of 90's bollywood...
Jaby has set his goals straight this time, the route to 2 million subscribers can only be reached with north indian subscribers. The more north indian content, the closer the goal. Best of luck with the journey.
Finally! ❤️ I was waiting yesterday to see part 3 and review. Like you guys, I also didn't grow up watching these because I'm from Kerala and grew up watching Malayalam movies. After I learnt Hindi and decided to watch this movie, I was afraid that I wouldn't share the same emotions as those who grew up watching this. Guess what, I was wrong! These movies are called classics for a reason ❤️. Please do more reactions on classic Indian movies ❤️
I grew up with this movie so it's nostalgia watching it, but there are definitely parts that cause major cringe and I have to skip. I still love it because it's such a rollercoaster lol I have to add that I think most Indians watching it wouldn't feel as you did about Rahul and Anjali's relationship in the second half. It was actually really playful and sweet, like they're also best friends. I think a big "Anjali, you mean so much to me" scene would have been kind of weird and unnecessary. That being said, I wouldn't have objected to more scenes with the two of them. No such thing as too much SRK and Kajol.
Jaby doesn't understand the Indian love filled bickering of husband and wife. Shah Rukh wasn't ashamed of Kajol..... it's a thing that Jaby's American side wouldn't get. Just watch a couple more Indian classics and I hope you would slowly turn into and Indian emotionally whereas for Achara, she already is an Indian for us. *Note:- the day you both would sit and enjoy HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN* you can consider yourselves as true Indians.* 😂
Achara is correct. The music is so nice, it made them emotional without understanding the language. The theme song is so emotional and classic because it's sung by the living legend Lata Mangeshkar ji and the screen presence of Jaya ji made it bit too emotional 😌💘. Every Indian can get it 💕
I request you to please just watch Bagban. I bet you my life to hold your tears till the last. Gosh how many time i just cried in my teenage along with my family watching this rollercoaster.
About the National Anthem, it was written at the time of British Rule over India, so english people most probably would know that it's our national anthem. It has also recently come to knowledge that it was composed and sung to George V who visited India at the time.
Please do Jab We Met next. I don't like newer movies with too many useless songs. This is one of movies where all the songs make sense. I feel you guys will really really enjoy it 😊😊
One of the most powerful moments in the movie is the exchange between Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan after his mom passes away. Where she finally speaks up.
Absolutely loved watching this classic with you guys again. Even with all the cringe stuff this is one of the most loved Indian movie by foreigners. You didn't understood the bond between srk and kajol. They are complete opposite of each other but still very much in love. Please don't take srk's annoyance with kajol literally he is just teasing her.
You both guys are are so amazing , you observe everything and your thoughts are really awesome , it's not like you are doing only for money , you really enjoying and giving true opinion
I loved K3G as a kid... the casting, the songs, the style, and most importantly the emotions. But now looking back, I believe that the film was missing something. At the end, the way in which the family kind of just got back together after the grandmother's death was a little too convenient and the way Amitabh just changed his mind and accepted his son again wasn't so believable. They should have written the plot in a manner where Amitabh was facing some major crisis in his business with no way to save it until his son, who was banished and went off and carved his own success, decides to come back and help his father despite having being disowned. This would have been more believable as SRK would have proved to Amitabh that, no matter what transpired between them, he would always be there to help his family...even if he didnt share their same blood. I think this simple addition to the story would have made a huge difference and made it more realistic.
@@pasindu1451 how is it possible for someone to not like kal ho na ho ???? i love that movie. OK... i'll watch their review to find out what they don't like about that movie.
Naaah that crying isn't overracting at all! That was the "commercial" acting of that time and he nailed it! Even my elder brother cries that way. And also Achara is more intelligent 🌝
So 2days ago🙃when Jaby & Achara reacted to "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham"😌...so when he posted it I was attending my lecs🤧& suddenly I get the notification of that video😌& at the same time My sir(as he was screen sharing)..then I saw that he also got the same notification of this video😶...I swear I was like..sir u TOO??!?...that made me laugh so hard🤣🤣..as he quickly removed it😂😂💜
Watched this in 2003 for the 1st time and I still love this movie. Jaya was my perfect character in the movie. ❤️ She performed the final scene where she sees SRK after years without any direction. Because she knew how it feels to see your own child after years of distance
I think he was connected with the movie alright. He was struggling at certain points, but that's completely understandable. So many Indian struggle with this movie. It's just too much sometimes. I love SRK's shivery crying, though.
