huge khabib fan and islam fan. but man ever since that thiago moises fight i kinda figured islams fight iq wasnt the same level as khabib. when thiago had him in a heel hook, he legit looked over to his corner in awe of what to do. and then in round 1 on the volk fight when he had his back, he just sat there, like he was lost. i just hope he can learn but i am really afraid these things cannot be learned. goddamit man, i really miss khabib hahaha

I think volk didn’t see the full version of Islam his missing strength was a big factor for him not to be able to proceed the grappling process. He probably was concerned about emptying his tank in case the fight prolonged

Russian reporters are the best, it's as if they actually cared about the fight! how surprising! Weight cut, multiple slips, hard shots/knockdowns, wrestling positions/mistakes; every thing I wondered about. WOW. When I was watching live the only thing that caught my attention was how fast Islam was answering these questions VS the english ones. I have a feeling Islam might've decided to just standup in the last second after he saw that he didn't fully recover his power/stamina.

Some people think now that Islam is exposed, but in fact this 5 round hard fight against the #1 p4p is what he needed. This makes him only a more better, complete, and experienced then he already was. He will work and develop himself on this fight in what he did good and what foults he made, and become even a better version of himself.

Islam is all class and dedication and talent. I only watched the fight once and though Volk won 3-2 but it was so close.

UFC has the most absurd rule in terms of cutting weight, they need to change that in the future event.

Fighters have no idea what the hell happen in the fight, all that they know is that it was a "close fight" because that was the narrative being pushed. This shit was as close as it was during Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards but Leon was almost taken out in the 5th while Islam was just in a bad spot at the end. Once Islam watches it, you can easily see it being 49-46 for Islam, Volk only won the 5th round, you could argue for the 3rd but it was extremely close and I gave the edge to Islam.

Great fight for sure and knowing Islam came to Australia, without his brother and life long “Coach” for the first time to fight Volk on his home soil, that’s a mentally tough ask! Like Khabib, but more so, their team likes to prove they more than just wrestle and control. Not having Khabib there to “set him straight”…tough test! I do agree with the decision and would love to see them run it back sometime down the road. First though, fight Yair and defend the LW belt vs….????

I think khabib wants him to learn on his own, it's a very good lesson for him, even in the future fights he should learn to fight on his own.

Perhaps the best, most insightful questioning I have ever heard after a UFC fight. The Russians ask probing and intelligent questions and Islam answered every question with humility, and I have so much respect for him. The pressure on this guy is immense. The entire Russian nation looks up to him as a hero. But remember the adversity he has had - he lost his lifetime coach, Khabib's father, and he lost Khabib too. Islam had to stand up by himself and be a champion and the standard to which he is being held may never be seen in the Octagon ever again. Khabib was so dominant and so amazing it is a very tough ask to expect this of Islam. But I am sure he and Khabib will move forward and improve, and he learned more from this fight than 10 other easier fights. Hats off to Volkanovski - he's a true champion as well. But Islam won that fight no question about it. Joe Rogan has been making serious mistakes in his commentary for years (too biased) and he was way wrong in this as well.

Its exactly what I thought, Islam was trying too hard trying to stand up and KO Volk. He actually did very well and proved his striking has improved tremendously but its not the best strategy to dominate someone as exceptional as Volk. That affected his performance a lot + his weight cut troubles also.

Where is everyone getting the idea ISlam didn't have 30 hours to rehydrate? He weighed in at 7:30am Saturday Morning, and then fought the next day at 2pm Sunday. This is 24 + 6.5 = 30.5 hours for hydration, what is the confusion about.

I think the same will happen in a rematch unless Alex can throw bombs and ko Islam. With the master of the ground game(Khabib) adding his input Islam could end the rematch with a submission. But Islam isn't Khabib so I don't see it happening.
