As someone who doesn't believe in real romantic love because I've never seen or experience it, fiction is the only place that makes me feel like it exists. I can relate to this song in so many ways. Real romantic love does exist. Just like in the fairy tales. Love at first sight, kissing in the rain, long distance letter writing and meeting someone at the airport, I've experienced it all. But it doesn't last. That feeling doesn't change the realities of life. You disagree on important issues, you fight, you make up, you break up because you have different goals or desires, or someone lies and you can't get past it. All the negative drama in fiction also happens in real life and instead of a happy ending you get beaten down by the drama until the romance can't survive...even if you still love each other. Love exists, it's happily ever after that doesn't.
