KHON, then an NBC affiliate and now a FOX station, has been the dominant station in Hawaii largely due to the popularity of Joe Moore and the late Les Keiter. Joe Moore has anchored since the mid 1970s and despite a number of on-air outbursts and odd remarks he has remained an enormously popular figure even to the present. In this clip, Moore "the firebrand", disses the lighting of the X-Mas lights at Bishop Square. Joe Moore is an institution, who is definitely not the laid back type one would expect to see on the air in Hawaii but you just can't help watch. Also, a X-Mas spot for Ala Mona Mall will bring back fond local memories.
This broadcast is from KHON TV in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States from 1992. Some promos, commercials, branding, or interstitial material may be included.

Joe has fluffy hair. In 1992 he'd been a newscaster since about 1970, and he's still on today.

Love it. As a Honolulu Advertiser reporter at the time and formerly city editor at the Star-Bulletin, I watched TV news closely to see if they had anything we needed to "match." Seeing Joe Moore do the weather forecast reminded me of his later disgust when his station's new Mainland bosses decided KHON needed a weather girl. "You want to know what what the weather is like? Look out the window!" Great memories. Thanks for this.

As time and changing hands went on at KHON, they eventually got some weather girls. Sorry Joe.

Joe has anchored the news since May 1981 on KHON, before that he was a sports anchor for KHON and previously KGMB.

I came to Honolulu in 1989 and I missed the good old days. So much simpler, easy on the roads not much traffic. Now its chaos, too much traffic, crowded, stupid rail, and this state should be called " The Construction State "
