It would be cool if you guys made a series about the Paraguayan War. It's a rarely talked about war that was one of the most destructive wars in history in terms of population loss for one of the involved countries. The lowest estimate places Paraguayan population loss at around 15%. The highest estimate says 60% of the population was killed. It lasted for almost 6 years, heavily changed the history of South America (as it destroyed Paraguay, was a massive factor in Argentina becoming a more centralized country and caused the chain of events which took down the Brazilian Empire and led to the military coup which started the Republic).

This is probably a result of the lack of information on Post-Roman Pre-Charlemagne Europe, and as many countries are much more closely tied to the Germanic kingdoms then the Sassanids or Parthians, the resurrection of the Persian Empires are often overlooked. We especially see this when History teachers often skim over the late empire and consequently about 7 centuries of history along with it. I also am very saddened by this, the period in which all of this transpired is a very interesting one filled with characters like Khosrau or even Justinian

We're thinking of different HMS Invincibles, aren't we? Anyway, it is great Royal Navy tradition to use adjectives as names for their ships, and the more hilariously grandiose those adjectives are, the better. HMS Invincible was a splendid name, but HMS Illustrious was probably the best they ever used.

Probably, I'm talking about the 1907 Battlecruiser sunk at the Battle of Jutland (though the 1765 and 1869 ships of the same name also sunk). I assume you're thinking of the carrier? And the names certainly sound great, but I feel like it's almost tempting fate to call your ship "invincible".

Justafan IV What about the HMS Victorious? Not an ironic name, but a funny sinking. The Vice-Admiral in charge of it and ten other ships ordered a show-offy move where the two columns turning toward each other(the Victorious was head 6 ships, itself included, and the HMS Camperdown heading the other column of 5), but there was too little room. The Camperdown rammed into the Victorious, which sunk 10.5 minutes later.

I went back to the Justinian series to look for Khosrau, and I found him. Though the letter on his clothing was a C instead of a K as it should've been, upon learning that he was the one who engaged in all those bouts of master trolling right before the plague struck the Byzantines my excitement for this series quadrupled. We're gonna be seeing "Operation: Stick it to Justinian" from the Iranian perspective. And it will be glorious.

There are many different ways of spelling his name, some have been Khusro, Khusrow, Chosroes, Xusro etc. its interpretative.

The series are voted on Patreon. Caesar was one of the options at one poll but lost to Great Northern War. Hopefully he will get series at one point since it's so interesting, I think a mix of known topics to unknown should be 1/3 or so.

Agreed, and I already knew they did the Patreon votes, It's just nice they 1. Even let the community choose and 2. Dont shoot down obscure ideas. Like if we are being honest they would get WAY more views if they covered controversial and or common topics, but these obscure topics cater to the actual fans of history, not just passing viewers.

Zoroastrianism is a dualistic religion - Meaning we believe in 2 opposing forces, Ahura Mazda (yes like the car company) and Ahriman - a lord of wisdom and creation and a devil hell bent on destruction. If you ever attend a ceremony carried out by a Zoroastrian, you'll see us praying to a fire, but don't get it twisted, we aren't fire worshippers. We believe that prayer and fire brings down the presence of god. When Alexander the Great rolled through Persia and brought Islam in, our religion was split. There are the Parsi's which are people who moved to India/Pakistan area to avoid persecution and have since set up shop there. There are Irani's, who as the name implies, stayed in Iran and. faced the persecution, and then people who abandon the Zoroastrian faith to become Muslim to become integrated into the society. In all honestly, I'm not the best person to ask about it. I can tell you there's only 200k of us left in the world. I can tell you that the high priesthood mentioned in the video is pasted down from the father's side. Other than that, we're just regular people. Wikipedia might be your best bet lol.

I think you mean the Rashidun caliphate, not Alexander the Great. There's a thousand year gap between the two, and Zoroastrianism was the state religion of Persia until Khosrau II was defeated by the Muslims.

Even the fortress of oblivion could not stop Bismarck who always had a plan! It could also not stop Walpole from becoming the warden after he crashed the prison economy. The fortress always was no match for Yi's turtle ships. Then at the end even Bolivar could not create a lasting union between the prison gangs.

Oblivion as in "forgetfulness", not "disappearance". A coarser translation would be "Fortress to which we send people we want to forget existed". They probably forgot about not just the prisoners but also general upkeep, and Kavadh was rich.

The Persians were badasses at giving names to places they held their captives. Khosrau II for example, after being disgraced and forced to abdicate spent his final days in the (I'm not kidding) "Tower of Darkness" where he died.

They think that it gives the government an air of history and tradition. It is misleading information cause the governmental systems are not that old but pomp and circumstance have it's place.

But I can say that the term of Persian empire is a western term which we are not using it when we are talking about our history, it is not political or related to the government. Also, you mentioned Xerexes, I don't know why you think the Iran's history is starting from Greco-Persian wars and why Iranian government shall emphasis that era, I need more explanation.

A while back i suggested the Yemeni-Ethiopian conflict between the kingdoms of Himyar and Axum for a series. While I still hope for that someday, the Sassanians were actually involved in those wars during Khosrau's reign, so hopefully we should still see them :). In any case, I find this era of history in this part of the world fascinating so I am really glad about this series :D

You will indeed see them! They aren't the focus of the episode so it doesn't quite go in-depth about what was going on down there but they absolutely play an important part.

My dream topic for your series is Kościuszko, which would have Catherine the Great essentially play the role of a "big bad" villain in the narrative.

communism is a word/term we have used for the last couple hundred years to define a concept that has been around for much longer than that, theres a reason why it convinces many people to join their ranks. I would say it tries to fix the systematical inequality that occurs in every society ever, unfortunately it seems to always lose its purpose in the process of making a society more equal.

A common misconception is that the Hephthalites probably looked alot more like the Sogdians than the Mongols (even though they’ve been known to have been at least semi-nomadic). So personally I think the Hephthalite design is abit off. Otherwise, great stuff!

Please do a series of a Byzantine Emperor named Heraclius who probably saved the Byzantine Empire from the brink of collapse during the early 7th century before his defeats against the Arabs. It would be great to create one especially that from being a victorius ruler at his youth to becoming a scapegoat to all Arab Conquests in the Levant and Egypt
