Dang... I know everybody's looking at Laura Lee and Mark going "wow, they're playing awesome" and she's beautiful and sexy and all. But, take a look at what DJ is doing on the drums. He plays like a freaking machine. He is 100% solid on beats, feel and meter but hes using sometimes only using his right arm to hold a drum stick while playing the Hi hats and snare and playing keyboards with his left arm at the same time. You would never know that hes doing all that and holding down the beat like a drum machine. I would not be surprised if this medley was his doing in production and structure. He is, after all, a hip hop producer. Donald Ray "DJ" Johnson Jr. is one bad-ass mother!! WOW. just Wow.. my mind is blown along with my socks.
She does not form a tight rhythm section with that kick ass drummer. It's like she doesn't even hear him...it's like she's just floating around out there on her own. She's got no groove. Her and drummer got no swing together. Still a great band though.
Props to the camera person. This is how you film from the front row ya'll. Take notes. Horizontal framing, smooth moves, no extraneous 'woo-hoo' noises from the camera op....and no selfies.
Wow!! thanks for pointing that out! I was wondering how the chords were being voiced on the McDonald and the Isley songs. DJ is a monster....they all are
2:56 you can see how great is this drummer, playing the original keyboard riff with the left hand while perfectly keeping the tempo with the right hand on the hi hat.
Musicians that let their music do the talking, gotta love these guys, no wonder they are blowing up, they're giving the world what it wants, real music and real LOVE !!!
I've seen and heard this shit a dozen times. Every time I see it my eyes water (and not because of the junk!). It's sounds just so beautiful. Everything about it, the reverb the hall. I'm touched. Long live Airplane.
God I love this band. Nearly all bands use old styles or genres, playing techniques etc as colours on a pallet when creating there own musical identity. These guys do that in a most wonderful manner. Marks world music influences and the bands quiet volume approach Its like there sound pallet includes the birds and the trees and the food and bees. Clearly three enlightened consciences making music here. All there albums sound great. But there live performances are even better. Never one the same. Truly original band of musicians.
This is incredible... Khruangbin has become one of my favorite bands . But hearing this medley really put a smile on my face ... I can't believe this amazing performance was taken on my birthday . I consider this a late birthday present thanks for uploading it
dude, Mark is such a guitar player! while looks simple, it's definitely not easy... will be attending their concert here in Leipzig on Feb 04th, can't wait for it!
such a great concert, great footage too. I was already losing my shit, but once they got to Summer Madness I lost it all again. Such a wonderful performance, so lucky I could be there.
No offense and they are pretty good but unless you’re a member of the band you should probably go see more live music, if this is really “the tastiest riffs you’ve EVER heard”? Just saying...
Saw this miracle medley happen in the Botanique, Brussels in november. I was amazed, recognized a lot. While watching/listening I kept thinking this was sampled by that Guy, this was used by him, etc. Basically connecting and linking music with other music. Something I do every single day :) My favorite without a doubt was the "kool & the gang - summer madness"
Thanks for the upload, this is epic. If you've studied stage performance basics from Spinal Tap, you know how to present the contents of your pants. Anyways, I'd travel far to see this live someday.
As well as 6:03-6:15 I don’t know if he’s quoting a song there but if it’s his own that is some of the most lyrical phrasing and playing I’ve ever heard in an improvisational setting. Sounds like a voice singing just before ‘I got 5 on it’.
By the way guys n ladies I wouldn’t say this is rap imstrumentals more like covers of the original tracks used to sample some of your favorite rap beats. That I’m sure khurangbin knows very well.
