Found this to be an absolute nightmare to take down and pack up. You made it look easy. This design does not work in wind, putting it up or taking it down. I am currently looking for a different option and will never use this again.
Well done! Much clearer than either a manufacturer's instruction sheet or an idiot' guide book. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post it, Al.
Thank you so much for this. I'm about to buy a 'van that comes with one of these and I wondered how easy it was to put up on my own. I feel confident that I can having seen this. Cheers.
Thanks for video. I bought one of these yesterday so have been checking on youtube to see that I was erecting it correctly. One point that might be useful is that I found another video made by Khyam for the larger awning and they show the guide ropes for the 4 corners being attached after you've unfolded and locked the top, but before you've unfolded the legs. I notice in your video that the tent was moving away from you as you unfolded the legs, and on a windy day this might get worse. If there's two of you doing the job you'll probably be OK, but if on your own then securing the guide ropes first would probably make life easier.
Hi! I have a boot jump in my Berlingo and currently use the Amdro boot tent but I like the idea of the Khyam with multi option openings. I would use the space for the dog to sleep in and for my day use/storage. Would be good to see how it attaches to the Berlingo if you have a photo I would be grateful! Cheers! Su 😃
This is a very handy video 👏🏼 I’m looking at getting something like this for my VW CADDY van. Can’t find it on Amazon any more .. but “SunnCamp Lodge 200 Motor Drive Away Awning” is coming up that it’s similar product ?
I like the Khyam tents, I have one myself. Really easy to put up.. not so easy to work out putting it away sometimes though HAHA' Looks a quality unit Mick. good useable space. All the best.. Mark
JesterBushcraft Thank you for this information, the manoeuvre does not sound daunting and something I can manage. I have bought a brand new Berlingo with the intention of using it for festivals during the summer months, instead of my usual tent. I am trying to be as cost conscious as possible. Therefore the first steps for me is to find out how the seats come out and secondly to buy a tent made especially to fit at the rear of this type of vehicle. As a female, I dont have the strength to lift out heavy seats but I intend to rely on asking someone else to do it. I think I can cope for the first outing, with the camping equipment I use for a tent (cooker etc.,) with the addition of the rear bedroom tent fitted to the Berlingo. How does this sound? Owners of every Berlingo whom I approached, love their vehicles and the ones who have converted to mini camper, explain to me how they have done it on a shoestring.
Kaye Pigott at the bottom the side wall has an extended tab that allows you to pull the side wall flush with the rear wheel and peg down. There are also adjustable webbing straps on the top section that goes over the tailgate, which I tie to my roof bars. The rest of it is elastic ages which hugs the contours of your vehicle to a degree. I’ve seen people use suckers on side of vehicle and use some of the guy lines to fix to those for added security... hope that helps 👍
Hi. May I just ask you... Do you know (or think) this would work on hard-standing too, or is it really only for grass? Thanks for a great video, by the way!
Yes it does! but in stronger winds, you would need to guy it down to the grass areas, fence posts around your hard standing pitch for additional security...
What size is the tailgate awning dude ?, it looks perfect for what I'm after and ive just searched on google for one and they either seem to be lower than £100 or £400-£500 plus 🤔
Main area is 210x210cm (225cm high), plus section that attached to car 145 x 210cm... Theyre about £399, but bet you could get a second hand one if you look round...
