We are talking about Kia!!!. I repeat, Kia. What the Hyundai Group is doing during the last decade, above all last 5 years...no words. Absolutely brilliant. Congrats on the exclusive!
Why so surpirsed? People used to talk about Toyota and Honda the same way in the 70s and 80s and look where they are now. If anything, the Koreans have managed to achieve the same thing as the Japanese in a much shorter time.
Kia is a very global brand. The design happens all over the world, with now the best designers in the industry. The things you see, happen because the right decisions were made by people with loads of industry experience.
Not surprising. S Korea is a quiet global tech powerhouse behind much of the technology we use every day. The more 'electronic' cars have become, the more Hyindai Motor Group's tech side shines. They're building the fantasy scifi cars of the past, today #N74
i-Kia has knocked the ball out of the stadium with this one. Supercar performance. With adaptive suspension the settings can be infinite comfort, sport, rain, track, rally and customisable as well. It all depends on what a manufacturer is prepared to provide for their cars.
As much as I like what Hyundai does, so far Tesla is capable to churn out more Teslas compared to Hyundai EVs, but I hope that changes in time, also puts more pressure on Tesla to get better with their Quality and After sale care.
thank you for this review, was waiting for that, I ordered my GT last Month , still one year for delivery, but seeing that the drive in normal is good ( what I was expecting) makes the choice even better
Kia/Hyundai are knocking it out the park with their EVs. Tesla could take some noted in regard to design, as a car lover I find their cars bland beyond belief. The EV6 and Ionic 5 are both outstanding designs (im not that sold on the looks of the Ionic 6 though 🙁).
I drove the GT-line about 9 months ago and liked it, but was surprised how much I liked my recent test drive of the GT. The power is quite manageable even in GT mode. Was also surprised how nice the ride was so thank you for talking about the differences there. I was just not sold on the seats which would be great around corners but feel too confining for everyday use including getting in and out of the car. I would have them worked on to my preference . I have one of these arriving this month with my name on it so will see if I pull the trigger, About $60K with lease deal right now in the US.
I have cancelled my i4 M50, and ordered an EV6 GT instead. The Kia is prettier, higher-spec, more-spacious, significantly cheaper, and will be FAR less common on UK roads. The EV6's 7-year warranty,, plus Germany's weak/inept stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine also contributed towards my change of mind. No-more German cars built with Russian blood-gas for me.
It was great seeing you again and drag racing against you! But the ping-pong/table tennis battle at the end of the day was the absolute highlight for me!
It looks a great car. I’ve got an Ioniq 5 at the moment but have n order in for a Fisker Ocean One. That’s the car that really excites me for the way forward in performance, styling and sustainability.
Every test should have handling footage like this 17:20 ! Everybody can do 0-100 but what we need to know is how a car drives, is it fun or not. Good work!
Hehee I am so happy we don’t see any more of those comments like… “but..but.. it’s just a Kia” or “but… but it’s still just a Korean car”. Only about 3 years ago there were still lots of them :)))
seems like they removed the capacitive buttons for heated seats and steering wheels which was my biggest complaint when test driving the GT Line S, nice
Great work as always! Thank you for traveling to my old home town (Stockholm) to try this out, it's a wonderful city and when you know the roads (like the ghost driver in getaway Stockholm videos) they are a lot of fun. This car is currently giving me the urge to get up and go out for a drive every single morning at 7am. The GT mode is rather brutal for British roads but sports mode is just right. It really is a wolf car in sheep's clothing!

As allways a great review Thomas 👍😊 The recuperation got 6 levels, not just 1 to 4. If you hold the left pedal for a few seconds it will go I max recuperation mode. If you hold the right one it will go in auto mode. The last one adapt to the speed 👍😊 A very nice car and I can't wait to get my long range edition ❤️
Kia has certainly come a long way from their old boring cars, now the designs sure look slick, modern and elegant. And got the best reviewer commenting positive vibes.
@@MrHabushi It's also bizarre that they go out of their way to have two different taillight designs, when one could work globally. This increases parts variability and cost.
Kia is hitting it out of the park with these cars! I mean sure Hyundai is has the similar more french looking Ioniq 5. But Kia is really milking this thing. Congrats Kia, you are more of a contender to Tesla than VW is. Not just due to price, but mostly due to not having all the drama regarding combustion engines.
10:40 I doubt you are going to seat five adults if the additional load the car can take is only 460kg depending on the chosen options, at least no luggage in most cases 🤔
Hahaha, I have to say i was impatient and I bought the hardly getable latest Stinger. I have to say I would buy KIA premium cars any day than BMW, AUDI, MERCEDES. :D
Model Y has a lot more space and the availability is better. EV6 has maybe the better built quality and it has the better suspension for sure, software & infotainment also looks quite nice.
@@andkosification thanks for the reply, TMY from Berlin have great build quality and infotainment is way better on Tesla from what I experienced. But the Kia is better equipped (HUD, 360 camera’s), so difficult choice. Indeed availability from Kia is completely random, the dealers have no clue when they can even sell it !
Thomas I do not think you need a fast car to have fun, I think a car that has a bright and colourful interior such as the future mini you reviewed is much better, also I thought the saying went speed kills!
Can't wait for upcoming BEVs with torque vectoring. I think 300 HP and Torque is plenty fast for my needs. Great to see Koreans showing the competition how it's suppose to be done. Affordable performance EVs is what we need to convince more people to switch over.
If this is anything like the standard RWD suspension setup then its a no for me. I love the look inside and out and would love to have been able to consider this but it feels like driving a boat - motion sickness invoking movement from the suspension. I'd love to look at anything but a Tesla but the suspension setup in the Y and 3 provide a much more stable ride for me.
@@Shithappenswhenu suspension setup very similar. I think there is a trend to move to independent suspension which is good for the masses but plays havoc with anyone that is prone to motion sickness
Have no experience on langer distance with RWD but since May an AWD with 325 HP and I can tell you there are no american serial cars with better drivetrain and only some BMW, Audi or even AMG to compare. I therefore doubt your remarks and can definitely tell you that the GT is in another league e.g. Audi eTron GT or Porsche Taycan GTS with a drivetrain on that level, that a Tesla has not yet reached in that refinement. Responsible was Albert Biermann who headed M Sports at BMW. So either you are a Tesla-Fanboy or have a strange opinion for some unknown reason?😎😜
If Tesla is your idea of good suspension I am surprised. I found my test drive of the Y and X to be awfully bouncy like they did not know what they were doing. Polestar is great on corners but terrible on bumps. Try the Jaguar as it is really good.
Would've been great if you shed some light on the situation where the GT is supposed to have 100km less WLTP range than the 325PS AWD version :/ From what you say, they should have mostly similar range, but a 20% reduction is quite heavy.
The GT has the motors from the GT line's rear in the front and bigger still motors in the back so it will never have the range of the lower trim levels even if you take it easy on the throttle.
The performance sounds epic, but I test drive the regular AWD car and it was more than fast enough, easily on a par with my Porsche 997. You don’t get the nice ventilated seats (he said they were less comfortable in the review) or sunroof (in the UK) there’s more road noise and worse efficiency. You can’t get the full range of colours either in the UK. Hand on heart I don’t think you need the extra power. I’ve cancelled my order and switched to the AWD. I’ve got fast cars and the HT seems like too much power for the EV6
MY test drive of the GT showed the power was very usable even in the city. I'm not sure I ever floored it but there is alot of modulation and control when accelerating.
My only complaint would be the wired apple car play, come on, wireless should be standard at this price range. And the 250 mile range SI borderline for me, considering it’s reduction in winter.
Great review! Major drawback are the sport seats which are not electric. This is a major no go especially if you have different drivers and need to manually adjust all the time…
I don't know man...if you're going to do a speedo behind the wheel, at least integrate it into the dashboard (ie taycan/model s). The centre screen however isn't a must regarding dashboard integration.
Last summer you were on Gotland testing Porsche and now here in Stockholm trying out KIA. I wonder what car you will review next summer in Sweden. Maybe Polestar 3 😀.
Talked with an actual tesla 3 owner and asked what kind of range it Really gets... he said about 175 in colder months and 225 the rest of the yr though he admitted he did Not drive it for range and likes to have fun.
So does it have Matrix led headlights? Also does it have the modem for over the air updates? As none of the Australian models currently come with either feature.
Love the car, the looks, the performance. Only has one massive problem, they use LG chem cells with terrible degradation. See kia soul degradation video hosted by Byorn Nyland !
So it straight lines quickly but still handles like a bus looking at that, just like the EV6 GT line does too. You can't hide 2plus tons and try to say it's fun on a decent road. Polestar PP still looks like the better handler.
Main issue of all EVs so far, but everyone seems to be keen on getting this kink out of the way. For now EVs are good for straight line, but may get outperformed on carving turns. Unless something new comes around.
He completely avoids comparing it to either the tesla y performance or even worse would be a model 3 performance. Top speed , 162mph kia…. 162mph tesla M3P Weight , 4500lbs kia … 4,000lbs tesla M3P. (This explains the slower acceleration, worse handling, and longer stopping distance) Accel , 3.5 kia. 3.1 tesla & 13.3sec 1/4 mile kia . 11.6sec Tesla G pad score , 0.86g kia. 0.96g tesla 60-0 break test, 117ft kia. 99ft tesla . “Not meant to be used for track days”. That sums it all up . Less performance and more expensive than a performance model 3?
There is asterisk. Affortable supercar power. Not affordable EV. You would compete with Tesla Y performance, Tycan, e-tron GT (altho last two are not a CUV/SUV)
