For me, the Kia has killer styling, better driving dynamics (I like it a bit more sporty), better range, better tech, better performance, WAY FASTER CHARGING and a better warranty. But to be honest, I'd almost take the Kia on looks alone...that plastic cladding on the Toyota is entire unacceptable on a range topper.. Kia EV6 vs Hyundai Ionic 5 is a tough call for me though..
Honestly, there is no comparison between the EV6 and the Toyota. The former is leagues ahead in virtually every respect- performance, range, styling, handling, interior quality, infotainment system, tech features, charging speed, desirability etc. Also there is a major reliability issue with the BZ4X as every unit that has been sold is being recalled due to the dangers of its wheels falling off. This is simply ludicrous incompetence from the Japanese. Toyota and the other Japanese automakers seem to be totally out of their depth in the EV race while the Koreans are going from strength to strength.
I was seriously expecting something extraordinary from a 'Toyota' As they made us wait for such a Long time. And now they're losing with a Kia ; a brand people used to hate even just 10/12 years ago. It shows how far the competition has gone.
I agree with you 100 percent, the Kia is a really beautiful car and it looks like someone put some serious thought into its design. I don't like the steering wheel with the instrument panel the most on Toyota, it's really disgusting.
after all, this BZ4X is actually a project from BYD (chinese brand) but it is borne by toyota that's why there are a lot of leaked photos from China, because toyota still doesn't really want to go into EV, they still focus on hybrid and leave diesel
There's no comparison, the EV6 is clearly superior in every aspect except for the 2nd row slightly better space. Though in Toyota's defense the EV6 is better than pretty much any other EV out there on their price range (note, the Model Y is not in this price range)
after all, this BZ4X is actually a project from BYD (chinese brand) but it is borne by toyota that's why there are a lot of leaked photos from China, because toyota still doesn't really want to go into EV, they still focus on hybrid and leave diesel
I would go further to say the Bz4x is probably ranked right at the bottom in its category. Litterally any other EV including the blob ID.4 wipes the floor with it.
@@Drygore the thing is it doesn't actually have that much ground clearance. It's only 3cm more than a MG ZS! People are going to be taking it to the supermarket not off-roading 🤣
@@aaaa-ig6sc 3 centimeters difference is not small. I live in Sweden, and in the winters the BZ4X will definitely be the safer and better car to drive here. And i do go semi-off-road quite a lot when going fishing etc, and 21cm ground clearance do make a difference. Don’t wanna scrape the bottom of the car. And the AWD on the BZ4X is most likely better. With all that said… I’m still considering getting a XC40 Recharge Twin motor… Mostly ‘cause it’s probably the best car I’ve ever driven (and because I can’t even test drive the BZ4X because of the damn recall over the risk of the tires falling off…..).
You missed the bZ4X’s Achilles heel, it’s very slow charging time. It takes over 45 minutes to get to 80% charge on a DC fast charger compared to the Kia, which does it under 20 minutes. I would also like to see a comparison of the driver aids.
I used to drive only Audis and Mercedes for performance but after test driving EV6 GT I felt like Kia is now right up there with the best, especially in EVs. Kia EV6 GT drives like a spacecraft.
Maybe we should all take a minute, to acknowledge how far, how much progress Kia has made! Not too long ago, most of us would never think a Kia, ANY Kia, could ever go up against a Toyota, let alone beat one!!! 😃
I think now most companies are spanking the Japanese in the EV space. Not only kia, but a young 20 year old silicon Valley startup seems to be thrashing Toyota in the EV space as well.
The bZ4X looks ok, but i really dislike the big solid plastic ironing board instead of a 'grill". Cool headlights, and the colour is real nice on it. Nice enough interior but also a tad average. The EV6 (together with the ionic5 )is just so much cooler looking both outside and inside.
It is interesting to hear your opinion. I just read the comment saying he/she likes a black plastic trim on the bZ4X because it protects you from scraping your door in a parking lot. But I agree on your opinion! Bit concerned on the design of a new ioniq6 but EV6 and ioniq5 is good enough for me. More of a big fan of new N vision 74 check it out :)
@@purwantiallan5089 Yeah I think so too. If they didn't just slap the plastic panels so it doesn't look bulky(and minor issue of hard naming) I think is is a good car.
The Kia ev6 is beautiful,I'd choose it hands down, only problem is it's expensive, well out my price range, so have just ordered the ford puma st in mean green, maybe a few years time I go electric when the charging network is much better an ev prices are more affordable 👌👍🏴
Of course Toyota is lobbying to slow down the inevitable move to EVs in the USA...but it's kinda crazy that the Japanese automakers are so far behind Hyundai/Kia/Genesis. Overall, a win for the consumer.
Yeah, considering Toyota used to invest in Tesla they made all the right moves...until they didn't. Look at where Tesla is now compared to 10 years ago. The new car buyers have spoken, EVs have a place in the car world!
Toyota's brand loyalty and reliability reputation are its only benefactors. Other than that, though, I would say that Koreans have their boot on Japan's neck right now. Even the Acura and Lexus products aren't competing with Kia Stingers. They don't even need to call big brother Genesis for help. Only thing that Korea lacks right now is a supercar for the wow factor. Acura is about to discontinue the NSX again and Toyota hasn't made a supercar since the LFA but at least they have that under their belts to remember and appreciate. I do wonder if there will ever be a Korean Ferrari competitor.
To put this in some perspective - That Kia is less than 2/10ths of a second off the 0-60 time of the Sport Classic 911 Mat tested a couple videos ago. EVs are so damn quick
Your point on EVs is true, although to be fair he didn't even launch that Porsche, he just set off quite normally. That Porsche can do much much better.
No surprise you picked the EV6. It's the only new car I would even consider at the moment. A few more physical buttons/controls would make it even better.
After owning one since July, I’ve never had an issue with the controls. I only use the steering wheel buttons for all media and I leave the climate controls on auto and only adjust the temperature with the physical knob. 100% satisfied with the car so far
For me - months ago - it was a toss up between the EV6 and Ioniq5. Went Ioniq because the boot is a lot bigger due to its shape, and the rear seats were more versatile. But the EV6 looks so much better, and I also hear more efficient. Glad I didn't wait for the Toyota.
KIE ev6 is good enough mechancially to have me not getting another BMW after driving it for 12 years. The mechanical memory of how a car's frame behave under load and speed is very physical. so to get a equal or better replacement from a different manufacture is quite difficult. I am glad this option is available and I am getting inches closer to have it soon.
I've seen the Kia now in real life, it was bigger than I expected. That said, I like its design better than the Toyota (and the Iconic 5, I think that design will age very quickly). I think we'll probably get an EV6 for shart range/town driving, but we'll either get a hybrid for long range or even still a full petrol ICE.
‘An EV6 for short journeys’....what!?....With the 800v system you have one of the fastest charging EVs on the planet. It’s range from 100% allows you to set off on a 400 mile trip...say London Edinburgh knowing you have more range than you can drive in one sitting..sensible people would do 2 stops on a 7 to 8 hour drive like that...and in the Kia a couple of 15 minute stops at an Ionity charger will add another 120 miles...Why on earth would you need another car, especially a dirty ICE car!?
The KIA is a winner. Kia have come on leap and bounds globally in the last 5 to 8 years. Quality, practicality and reliability 👌👏smart buys for families!
3:15 That GT Line should have auto flush. If you unlock the car it should reveal the handle. Maybe it's deactivated through the infotainment system. But I promise you that was NEVER an issue with mine.
i got the bz limited just for the fact of how much its not made as an ev...its way behind in ev stats but way ahead as a real solid suv thats extremely comfortable to drive, nice torque and very smooth, is great in rough weather , has a lot of space and hopefully will last longer and not depreciate like korean cars do
At least, kia ev's wheel doesn't come out of the body while driving. 😂 All kia/hyundai issues were about engine/transmission of 5-15 years old gdi but EV doesn't use them at all. So there is no reason to underevalute them than Toyota in the EV world.
@@purwantiallan5089 He was joking about the Toyota/Subaru EV recall related to the wheels potentially (and literally) falling off. That didn't affect any cars actually in the hands of customers.
Im a tesla fan but you shouldve mentioned the VERY important toyota battery feature. Its the ONLY ev on the market that offers 10yrs warranty on the battery AND they say it retains 90% of the battery capacity, not 80% after 8yrs like the KIA
Toyota is embaressing themselves. Kia and Hyundai have stolen their thunder for a couple years now. Toyota has a niche gem from time to time (like the Yaris GR), but even there they are not alone (The i20N is a good looking and capable micro-hothatch).
after all, this BZ4X is actually a project from BYD (chinese brand) but it is borne by toyota that's why there are a lot of leaked photos from China, because toyota still doesn't really want to go into EV, they still focus on hybrid and leave diesel
In Sweden we get the 11 kw charger with the Toyota. Still , it’s bad that Toyota didn’t make a better product that is more comparable with the Kia. I still chose it over the competition for the clearance in country roads, my family also found it more spacious, specially in the rear row, it’s also more comfortable for the elderly who can sit higher in the Toyota compared to the Kia.
after all, this BZ4X is actually a project from BYD (chinese brand) but it is borne by toyota that's why there are a lot of leaked photos from China, because toyota still doesn't really want to go into EV, they still focus on hybrid and leave diesel
Every good thing comes to an end, I think its time to say goodbye to japanese automakers and welcome new contenders.... I would choose the ev6 easily in blue or silver...
I am not really an SUV guy, but if I had to chose one of those, I would pick EV6 ... platform ... Hyundai Ioniq 5. But since I am not a fan of SUV, I will wait for something close to Prius PHV idea of a car. I kinda feel like SUV EVs of today are utterly inefficient 17-25 kWh/100 km ... not impressed.
@@NinoPanino I would consider your response as an attempt to make a joke. Sure the front part look pretty amazing, the body shape is most likely really aerodynamic, but the rear seats are the last place you would like to sit - seating position is abysmal, floor is high, bench is in angle and due to slopping roof, the ceiling is fairly low as well. Probably the last thing I would like to experience in an SUV is to bang my head on the ceiling and my ass hurt after an hour of siting there.
The efficiency numbers you give are pretty ridiculous... 25kwh/100km?? You might get that in an inefficient etron while driving like a looney but driving normally in something like an EV6 will get you a much better number. I have an e-niro and have averaged 13.6kwh/100km over its lifetime with mostly highway use.
EV6, hands down. I actually like that they put the stereo and climate controls on the same panel. One option I wish they gave was to have one of them be persistent, so you can choose climate controls change the temp, whatever, then if you don't use them for lets say 60 seconds, it will default back to stereo controls without you having to switch it. Then you can choose which one will stay so you can choose climate to default back to and the ability to change how long till it switches back to your default of choice.
You can do exactly that. I think if you hold down the button that switches functions, it will default to that function. So if you default to HVAC, when you switch to audio, it will automatically switch back after a few seconds without any inputs. Though I don't know if you can select how much time before it switches back to default.
The setting you wish the EV6 would have for climate and audio is there already you just have to set it up for which one you would prioritize it to default too.
Surprised based on the size and height that the EV6 has the bigger trunk space. These Koreans aren't playing games yo. The EV6 went on sale 2 years before this Toyota did and they're still better at damn near everything lol. I could be biased. I do own one. But this wasn't out to cross shop when I got my EV6 and really none of the EVs that've come out since are making me jealous lol. They don't look as cool and they don't charge as fast, for the money.
I have one too, and there's nothing out there currently, or that I know of in the future, that makes me regret my purchase. Except maybe the upcoming EV6 GT. :)
@@michaelgoetz7506 the GT is tempting. I think I'm good where I'm at considering the GT loses some features and doesn't get a range boost. But all that power certainly is hard to turn down STILL... it would be nice to not lose at the light to any car on the road really, except another EV.
@@devongee1776 Yup, the GT gives up a lot of creature comforts -- comforts that I really, really like. If the GT was available back in February, and I had the extra $$$, I probably would have still bought the GT-Line (that's the top spec in the US, other than the not-available-yet GT). Make that definitely: my car was expensive enough. I wouldn't have spent more. But I'd still be jealous of the extra power.
I'm considering both vehicles tested as my first battery EV, so YOUR experience is quite crucial to me. You've actually driven both vehicles (plus many others!), so you've got a broader perspective than I do.
I feel like Toyota and Honda has been slacking compared to Hyundai and Kia. Even their luxury brand like Lexus and Acura is slacking. I have a new 2022 Hyundai Elantra and one of my friend has the new 2022 Lexus UX200 and oh boi. The amount of techs and interior design in just a low to mid end Hyundai is way more and so much better than in a mid end luxury car. This is freaking AMD and Intels all over again lol
Toyota has advantages price wise and height wise. In terms of range there isn’t much between the two. I prefer Toyota’s front compared to Kia. I think apart from plastic cladding there isn’t much wrong with the car. It would come down to individual preference what they are looking for.
after all, this BZ4X is actually a project from BYD (chinese brand) but it is borne by toyota that's why there are a lot of leaked photos from China, because toyota still doesn't really want to go into EV, they still focus on hybrid and leave diesel
The Kia EV6 is one the best electric SUV ever built! It have a cool, electric and futuristic looking design with amazing performance! I would love to buy a Kia EV6 as my first SUV in future!
The EV6 is a victim of it's own success at the moment. I read somewhere that Kia had sold their entire EV6 production for *three years* in some markets. That ought to keep used values strong for quite some time...
Bruh, it's the best EV at it's price point and if it were made by any other manufacturer it would be in the range of the Model Y. Edit: You are basically getting a Model Y for about 10.000 pounds less. Idk what You are complaining about.
I would not buy a car which has a real chance the wheels fall of while driving at any speed. So no Toyota for me, also their attitude and announcements concerning EV's over the years make me doubt how much effort they put into their EV's (ironic considering the wheels fall off their first EV and they had to recall it).
BZ4X is “Designed by Toyota” and made by BYD. Like Apple IPhone. They can’t even sell it legally in USA due to current safety recall of Wheel falling off, after investigation they can’t find a remedy, and offering full buy back.
Not made by BYD. This is disinformation. The car is made by Toyota in a Japanese factory. BYD had nothing to do with the bZ4X. The BYD collaboration is for the China-only bZ3.
Seriously. I used to be a die-hard Subaru fan, but my last four vehicles have been Hyundai and Kia. Easily the most reliable cars I've ever owned. And the EV6 is simply amazing.
I was sure you will go for the KIA. I would go for the Toyota. Prefer the way it looks and is more comfortable ergonomical and with a good awd system. The restricted view at the back is also a downside of the KIa. Although for driving fun I think the KIA is better.
The Toyota is a comfortable crossover. The EV6 is pretty much a hatchback. It is meant for cornering and 0-60 and it disappoints in suspension and comfort.
Yeah, that's the one thing about my EV6 I'm not crazy about. However, at highway speeds, the aerodynamics keeps the rear window pretty clean. I'd still rather have a wiper, however. Note that Hyundai's Ionic 5 has different airflow and the back window gets a lot dirtier than the EV6's does. That car needs the rear wiper more than the EV6 does.
The Nissan Ariya is a brutal competitor. Very good car. Smaller but same Platform: Megane E. Very, very quiet car, very well made. I guess Kia first, Ariya directly behind, then Bz4. Just my view.
Kia EV6 can charge up to 230 kW DC, 11,4 kW AC, 10-80% in 18 minutes, it has V2L so you can park the car, make your self some tea or coffee and heat the babys milk bottle, make dinner with a microwave ovn, charge the car full up and power your house when power failure. You can also use the rear camera while driving. With RWD you have 52 liter frunk.
Hey Carwow, I really like your Videos. What could be even better, is when you include the range additionally in km and the power consumption in kwh/100 km. That would be perfect, and much easier to follow. Thanks alot :)
@@Sto79Be Thanks for your suggestion, but I have to decline. I really like mat and his videos. Imo its not too much to ask to include some more information via text. So what is your point?
@@Sto79Be "Some" channels include other units in subtitles. I know it's not hard to do the conversion yourself, but it's nice to have and IMHO good feedback.
Looks like I'm the only one who would still buy the Toyota over the KIA. If this comparison had the Ioniq 5 instead of the EV6, I'd have 100% picked the Ioniq 5 over the BZ4.
