Good review. Both Kia & Hyundai have come a long way since the 80s. Then, their cars were affordable economic boxes on wheels. This review of the Niro sounds really impressive. Hope it comes to our shores and really looking forward to test driving it for myself.
Just recently bought a 2019 Kia Niro EX (states version.) Obviously I am a little biased as I bought the car. But I did a lot of homework. It's a good car and maybe not getting as much as gas or petrol performance then the Prius, I feel it has more room. Also it's much cheaper than a Prius. It's not as flashy or stands out that of a Prius, but I don't want to look smug. Now, Kia lists this as a SUV, but it's really a hatchback. Wish it came with a spare tire.
You gave a vague statement on cargo capacity and mentioned nothing about fuel economy, nor compared it to either the Prius or the Ioniq in either way. Those are the two main reasons to buy this car: Space vs other hybrids and fuel economy vs other hybrids. You covered neither. Good first drive review, but hardly an in-depth dive as to how this car compares to its counterparts.

I prefer this car to the Prius - it seems more practical and has all the merits and virtues of hybrid technology without the rather smug image (and ugly design) of the Prius. Definitely on my shortlist, this one. Great review.
The vast majority of people looking to buy any hybrid will want to know real world mpg, any reviewer knows that, so why did he fail to mention it. I learnt nothing from this.
Based off of what you said about under steering on a damp road, I take it you don't recommend for someone in an area with a lot of snow and ice in winter?
Denis Rousseau 16" wheels on the lower spec models, weirdly economy and efficiency suffer significantly on the higher spec models with the larger diameter wheels but they can be deselected on the options list with a reduction in price
He keeps on saying "Hyun die" instead of "Hyundai" which rhymes with "Sunday". Hyundai would be disappointed you can't pronounce their brand correctly.
I'm "Not" Korean and I can say "Hyundai". We live in United States where everyone knows how to Pronounce Hyundai. Next you're going to say you can't pronounce "Infiniti" because it's Japanese! Give me a Freakin Break.....Ignorance isn't an excuse.

Jo Kim from the BBC, a linguist and Korean specialist, noted in January 2014 that: "The original Korean pronunciation is closest to HYUN-day (-hy as in Hugh, -u as in bun, -ay as in day, stressed syllables shown in upper case). Hyundai UK, including its adverts, has a different way of saying it: high-UUN-digh (-igh as in high, -uu as in book, British anglicisation)." Therefore, we pronounce the firm as directed by Hyundai UK.
Sorry I bow to your superior intelligence. How do you guys in the United states pronounce Aluminium and Oregano? Different tongues mean words will be pronounced differently in various countries, deal with it, move on and live a peaceful fun filled life.
craigmccamley You can ask Siri or Google on your phone and you can play all day pronouncing names to each other. I don't knock other countries but there is a correct way of saying certain words especially in the Automotive Industry.
