A friend of mine has just got a new 1.6 petrol Kia Sportage. I liked it str8 away so thought I'd take a closer look. Thanks AJ I enjoyed your video. Very tempted to get one. Love all the gadgets and esp the auto tail lift and folding seats and hiding the parcel shelf. Very nice indeed.
Great review. Perhaps you could do more to remind viewers what badge of the model you're reviewing. I got excited about this car, as someone who was considering a Sportage, only to find this particular Sportage is well above my budget. The one I will be buying next week is missing a lot of the best features of this one.
A great car .I've just picked up a brand new 2021 spec 1600 petrol. It's suberb....I had a Honda crv before and yes they are built to last but for the price difference this has to be a better deal..£23:000 for the equivalent Honda it was £29:000. I test drove them both and liked the feel of the Kia more...the decision was easy.
I bought a 2017 had it for 6 months and the Motor Blew. Come to find out the 2.4 has a recall on all Motors with a certain VIN and mine was on the list. Out for three weeks and no rental or compensation offered and I still had to get back and forth to work. 30,000 miles and there was another victim at the Service dept doing the same thing.
Currently have the 1.7 Kia Sportage CDTI and am considering something different because of one feature that no reviewer has picked up on......unless you purchase the premium model, the front passenger seat ( which is not height adjustable ) sits a lot lower than the drivers seat which does not provide the passenger with the same visability and experience. This also applies to the Hyundai Tucson, so based on your reviews, I am looking at the Nissan X Trail.
I got the 2019 1.6 T-GDI AWD in February and its a blinding bit of kit, 174bhp turbo petrol engine really does crack on, Fuel consumption after nearly 2800 miles is averaging 34mpg so not too shabby for a large car with a relatively small engine. My one gripe is with the thing you liked and that's the lip less boot opening, Yeah granted its great for loading heavy cases into the boot, But its not so great at stopping bottles rolling out and smashing on the drive, Especially as it was a £60 bottle of single malt! ;-( Really cant find anything else I don't like about it.
I must admit if my £60 bottle of scotch rolled out and fell on the floor I wouldn’t be happy! I suppose they could put velcro tabs in the rest up support the alcoholic purchases during travels lol
good morning I have bought 17 Kia Sportage Its diesel Enjoy it Still taking man time getting used to - Cant work out mph What is the line comes next to it
Nice car until it broke down at 130kmh.... apparent fuel injector problem. 5 weeks later, still in the Kia garage. No time estimate of the part being MADE yet alone delivered. Kia Assurance is terrible even if the warranty is 7 years. They have not helped one bit, we've had to constantly chase them for news/courtesy car etc. Was a decent car for 4,000km's!
I bought the cheaper brother - Kia Soul ... Great roomy car for 6' 8" ... And reliable car! And its unique look makes you stand out and not lioke a sheep like other owners!
I would have no hesitation in buying a Sportage but for one dangerous failure that all Sportages suffer from. Why oh why,do they insist on placing the rear indicators,as low as possible i,e, on the bloody bumper. It's madness! You need to ensure the following driver can see that you are turning so the common sense place to put the turn signals is as high as possible,is it not?
Because it was primarily for the north American market where the whole light assembly flashes in the same colour (red). This is the difference between Kia and other manufactures. Others are more well versed in variances in global legislation and have plenty of resource to throw into r&d before getting too far and then slapping them on where there is space.
This has helped me. My sister has the Sportage and I must say big cars freak me out a little (I mean I drive a Corsa) but with 4 young kids I really need to get over my fear of big cars and find something I can fit my kids in comfortably. Thanks for this 👍🏼🚗😍
Craig Gibson i love my 2018. It’s like a little tank. I really like driving it and they have such a cute look. I had one of those little Ford things when my Sportage was in the body shop. That ford thing was a piece of shit! Oh and BTW my Sportage was having body work because someone tried to break in it. 😡 My Sportage is the black cherry so I call her “Black Beauty” LOL Happy trails to you!!
Have one myself and was getting only 31 mpg in winter. Then I thought about it. A Range Rover Evoque costing twice as much with less kit would only realistically get similar. It is what it is.
Love the Kia Sportage but automatics are hard to find now ?I travel 200 miles a week to and from work which would be the best car in fuel for me ? The 1.6 petrol or the diesel 1.6 l ?
I have a 2017 Carens 1.7 diesel DCT (auto) for which I part-exed last September a serviced up to date, 2012 VW Touran 1.6SE DSG. The Kia is thirsty compared to the Touran, I get 39MPG on a run in the KIa, in the Touran I used to get 58MPG but I do not regret my decision one bit; here's why. In two years the Touran had a water-pump, an ABS pump, and EGR valve and finally, the DSG gearbox packed up. I discovered later the particular box in mine (DQ200) is now covered by a 70,000 mile 'good will' warranty. my gear box failed at 71,000. And what problems has my Kia given me? None, Nada. I drive blissfully free of the dreaded orange dash lights. I made the switch when collecting the Touran from our local city auto gearbox specialist after the gearbox failed and finding one had arrived with the same fault codes as mine, and learning it was the third VW with those codes in two months. I asked him what makes he 'didn't see. He said, 'not many, far eastern, and never seen a Kia or Suzuki'. That did it for me, I was down to the Kia dealer the following day praying the pesky Volskwagen would hold together long enough for me to make the swap. I'm not saying this is 'evidential' or anything, but it worked for me. The Carens by the way is a peach to drive and ride in, bar for the non-height adjustable passenger seat, which I fixed with four longer seat-bolts and piece of 200mm steel box section sawed into 1 and 1/8th " lengths.
Awesome review, i currently have the Picanto GT Line S and it is lovely! Im looking at getting the New Kia CEED GT 2019 so if you can get your hands on one, please do a review!:) the ProCEED looks cool but i like the looks of the normal ceed!:D
LoL, they did not adapt the multimedia/navigation console buttons to right hand driving. Don't go for the 1.6 engine, it's not powerful enough for this kind of car, it's not even powerful enough for a Kia Soul!!
I had a 2015 Sportage and other than it’s heavy fuel consumption liked it, last year I traded it in for a Peugeot 3008 GT and what a great decision it was, so much more refined, beautiful cabin and lots of tech. Test drove the new Sportage and was not that impressed.
I recently got rid of my kia venga ,and wanted the sportage,I would love to know the real MPG on the petrol version you mentioned,as i say i chopped in for a honda jazz ,and am very dissapointed after owning a roomy kia.cannot wait to get back into another one,But the main thing is MPG its quite astounding in my honda,.and when you said 31 mpg ,well today thats just not acceptable.briliant video thanks.
2017 Model with 2.4 L engines are all recall my engine went at 30,000 never missed an oil change with the dealer. Nice looking, but dependable it is not. They honored the warranty, but I was out my time. And hassle.
I traded my 16 plate 2 for a 19 plate edition 25. Fantastic car, the step up in spec is amazing its awesome the amount you get BUT !!! The engine is dog shit the second you reach a slight incline. !!! All in all tho would definitely recommend a Kia.
Crikey, please get a clip-on mike for your your voice recording. My mistake, you do have one. Someone really needs to know how edit your vid clips then. Sound is all over the place. Sorry.
I have the 2.0 CRDi GTs (turbo diesel) automatic. It’s solid and dependable, never let me down, BUT I can confirm the fuel consumption is diabolical (24 mpg around town and no more than 35 mpg on motorway). Also, I agree with others who’ve said why on earth do they put the low-level lights (indicators, etc) down there? Crazy design!
Not for me but I can see why the sell so well. Fuel economy is largely dependent on how you drive it so I will take that comment on notice. The lack of a memory function on the seats though is a almost disturbing when you consider the feature set of this car.
Thanks from Oz. I love my Sportage GT Line 2.0 Turbo Diesel - just incredible in build quality, performance, features, value for money and backed up by a helluva warranty. Well deserved success for Kia, Peter Schreyer and the entire Organisation!!
Thanks have been trying to find out a real world figure for one of these prior to ordering. I agree low 30mpg is not good enough considering i get almost that from my xc60 d5 R with perminant AWD. may have to go for the smaller engine but the tiguan seems to get really good mpg.
Unfortunately my experience is a bad one bought new in 2016 and now at 26500 miles had various faults with the car but my Kia dealer is just not interested I had a clutch plate fail , not wear and tear it just fell apart (the center came apart) not warranty, went into limp mode at 6 months old Kia garage could not look at it for 3 weeks, broken wire to air mass sensor, now I have sticky steering Kia garage says i'm imaging it even although its a common fault on this year, I think the car is generally good but if you have a problem that's where it all goes wrong i'm afraid
I have the gt line sportage and a picanto gt line s and have to say I'm pleased with both.Easy toilet with and decent looking. The petrol version I have is smooth but thirsty around town.
Great review, love to watch your reviews, I have always fixed my eyes on Mazda CX 30 but now this has caught my attention the Kia Sportage GT line ...so the question is which one should I go for ???and why ?? please help me in my decision please, I tried the Xcreen and very nice to drive,
Can’t give you an opinion as the guys at Mazda don’t give us cars to review and don’t even have the decency to answer our emails. Test drive both the Kia and the Mazda is my answer and sorry I can’t be more helpful
@@AJThePlayerRU-vidChannel this is funny, in the end, I bought TODAY a Skoda Karoq 1.5 150cv and super happy with it , now have to wait a week to get it, haha , but thanks anyway love your reviews ....
The Mazda CX 30 or CX 50,are so much more refined and far nicer to drive than the Kia.The higher build quality is evident as soon as you sit inside it and the drive is,compared to the Kia,light years ahead.Go try one.
@Yushiro Tanabe no one cares a 7 year warranty steals buyers from Toyota beucase kia is so much more worth the money they look better have more features and no one needs to buy a Toyota a boring Toyota to have a kia it's mroe exciting but if you want the Toyota to an buy it!!!!
I have one too and as you say lovely car but high fuel consumption. Best I have done is on the motorway 38.6 mpg. Usually nearer 30 though. No where near the advertised mpg. Just wish car manufacturers were more honest on this. Won't be swapping it though as I love to drive it.
Really nice suv and good review, not the best mpg in this car but its not putting me off buying one if these, will get one of these once my pcp contract for my mustang ecoboost ends in 2 years, kids are getting to tall for back of mustang their heads nearly touch back window so need an suv and 100 % will get the kia sportage either diesel or 1.6 turbo petrol, hopefully in isg4 trim or gt line trim 👌👍👍😁
I have this model in Australia, a 2019 GT line with a 2.4 petrol engine. The spec is virtually the same as yours; excellent car especially the Korean tyres which wasn't the case on a previous Sportage eight years ago. My only criticisms are, no front seat memory and no dipping of the passenger's mirror for parking. However, worst of all is the appalling lack of torque with the 2.4 petrol engine - I spend all my time paddling! I do recommend the Sportage but only in 2 litre diesel format, which is our choice in Aust. We also have fixed price servicing - brilliant. Mine makes a very good town car but it's diesel for everything else. Fuel consumption is 10.6 litres/100km, awful, dropping to 8/100 on a trip.
Mate I've just bought a 1600 petrol version.. 2021 specifications.. it's a great car for the money. And looks stunning. Designed by the man who designed the Audi TT.
Both my wife and I looked at the Sportage and sisters car a Hyundai Tucson and like them both want to do you like sportage It feels more posh I want to actually is for the price
I drove one when my car was in for service. I think "value" and "SUV" do not go together. Often the SUV will get you, at the same price, a vehicle one or two sizes down from the car of the same price. My Skoda Octavia 1.5 SEL is the same price as the Sportage base 1.6 petrol "2" variant. The Sportage has a higher driving position and marginally more head room. The disadvantages are: Less power More fuel consumption Less space (you can put a bike in the Octavia flat down) Poor interior quality (Octavia is on another level) Worse fuel consumption No LED lights No automatic braking The experience of driving the Sportage was, in relation to noise, controls, power, touch of all interior materials, was clearly inferior. I would urge anyone purchasing an SUV to try the equivalently priced hatchback.
The 1.6 is a lot less powerful. You did not even mention about the fact it is a mild hybrid on the 2.0 diesel at 48v and talk about the info system and the live internet connection etc. The other feature it misses in memory seats or lack of and its only a 4way lumbar. You said you were going to talk about the 8 speed gear box but never did and as for the MPG its based on how you drive the car ie fast slow or in-between as it adjusts the fuel spent. The boot also has a remote opening from the key fob and also opens if you stand behind the boot with the key in your pocket after 3 beeps. You did not show the panoramic roof and did not mention it was electric slide and tilt with wind guard. Did not mention that all lights were LED not just the daylight ones. Did not show the 3D camera and that it has reverse warning collision, and skimmed over the other features in a sentence. Has auto dimming centre mirror. On the whole this was a poor video. Hope you improve for the future.
We rented a 2019 GT in Scotland. Drove it 5000 miles in 4 weeks, road noise at hwy speed makes conversation impossible. Trunk will not fit 4 suitcases. B pillar causes a massive blind spot. GPS is great and 55 mpg from diesel engine only real plus points.
Watch Scotty Kilner video on Kia’s, I wish I had before I bought one of these pieces of shit, my old Ford Kuga was by far a better car than one of these.
Wow Kia, that’s amazing what you’ve done to store the parcel shelf and also give you reclining rear seats.... wait a minute my 3.6 Subaru Outback has those features, how amazing is that, your not much of a car reviewer and don’t know s&$t if you think Kia are the only manufacturers to think outside of the box, and it has all the same features as the Outback too, including similar fuel consumption, except I have a 2 litre capacity advantage, would I swap ?? NO Way Hoza.
The 2018 model is awful. Thought the steering was faulty while driving on motorway, it kept pulling one way and then the other. It didn’t have lane assist. Took it back to garage, they said it was a feature. Some feature, I’ve have never had any thing more annoying than this in a car. Will never buy another one.
