I don't remember a time when she didn't call herself Mori. I think she personally uses Mori so she doesn't mix things up in her real life. Calling herself Calli while all her friends call her Calli would make it easy for her to accidentally slip in a Calli in her day to day life. Calling herself Mori makes that a little less likely, I think.

Calliope is a first name, so it makes sense that people call her “Calli” and not “Mori” However, since the JP came up with the name for her, I honestly don’t know which name they intended to be the first or last. 🤷‍♂️

For Myth and CouncilRyS/Promise they used Japanese name order across the board (hence the rather silly "Watson Amelia" used in official contexts). However, starting with Advent they now seem to use whichever name order is appropriate. So far, out of Advent and Justice only Biboo uses Japanese name order (Koseki Bijou), even though Shiori also has one name of Japanese origin; in her case it's her given name while Biboo's is her family name. However, Shiori's name in Japanese is written with all katakana and an interpunct to separate the names (シオリ・ノヴェラ) which is the typical style for foreign names while Biboo's uses kanji for her family name and no interpunct (古石ビジュー).

Calliope is actually her first name. Her name is phrased Mori Calliope because in Japan, people's names usually are said with their last name first. It's somewhat consistent with Hololive EN too; Mori Calliope, Gawr Gura, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina'nis, etc. The pattern sometimes changes tho, like with Amelia Watson. But the newer EN gens seem to start with their first names more frequently; like with Advent, everyone with the exception of Koseki Biboo (Bijou) has their first name first, and the same for all of Justice

Well using the last name only is common in Japan, in combination with honorifics most of the time. It's usually done with people one doesn't know well. In my country last names are never used, not even to towards one's boss or teacher.

I've always wondered about this because her nickname of Calli comes from the JP pronunciation of Calliope rather than the english, but Mori herself never introduces herself with the JP pronunciation, and she says things like "its your Mori" etc so it amazes me that she is universally called Calli among holomem outside of the occasional "Mori-chan" from JP senpai. I believe that the reason why most people call her Calli instead of Mori is because Calliope is actually her first name. The channel name is written as Mori Calliope because it's in the japanese format of surname first. So calling her Mori feels a bit too formal (at least for me) because it's calling her by her surname. So I go with Calli instead, since it's a cute nickname based on her first name. But either is fine, and in fact she might even prefer Mori, seeing as she refers to herself as "Mori" a lot more than as "Calli".

I think the last name/first name confusion of the Japanese order is the reason why Mori caught on. Her name is often written as Mori Calliope, so many casual fans probably thought that Mori is her first name. And Japanese is more flexible about which name you use. First name basis exists there as well, but using someone's last name is not automatically as distant as it is in English.

Nah it's just reversed because of Japanese like all the other names. Kiara introduces herself as Takanashi Kiara, but she doesn't call herself Takanashi, nor does anyone else. Gooba, too. No one calls her Gawr. The given name is the second one, surname is first. Ouro Kronii, Ceres Fauna, Koseki Bijou, etc. There's only a few that do the western way of putting the given name first.

@@thetcaseaway4306 You are extrapolating when the extrapolation is purely assumption. Each member outside of JP has no fixed given-surename position. Just believe each person which is which. And if we're talking properly, surename should be with -san. It would get worse with ID. ID has no widespread concept of surename. Some community/tribe does, but most don't. So their name is just ... name. Call them what they want/allow to be called (which I think the best way to deal with in any situation anyway).

There's no real rules in Holo for name order on the talents but for Calli, it's specifically for her branding as a musical Artist in japan that they keep her name ordered like that

@@ZalYagunRyai They used to follow the Japanese naming convention (given name following family name) hence why everyone in Myth and Council/Promise follows it, but starting with Advent they started basing it on whether the family name is Japanese or not (everyone in Advent other than Biboo for example). So if Ame were to debut today she would officially be named Amelia Watson rather than Watson Amelia.

You can start to differentiate the generation of Holo Fan based on what they call Calli. When Holo updated their website a while back and changed her name to the Japanese way of being written as well as her UMJ signing she uses Mori more, and as is her sign off, but if you’ve been there from debut you know she’ll always be Calli ❤️

@rikterterran3833 nah, the Indonesian gen 2 girls also called her Mori-senpai. Also after debut for the first few months Her fanbase was very split between calling her Mori and calli. You tell this by just checking her chat and comments from those early streams. It is only in clips and on Twitter that Calli dominated early on.

I'd say more Holo fans call her Calli. I think barely any Holo fan referred to her as Mori until she started referring to herself as such back on 2022, when she got signed to UMJ.

I've never seen anyone call her Mori. Only Calli and Calliope and Dad. Or use the full name, Mori Calliope/Calliope Mori. But not just Mori. But hey, "Calli, Mori, girl, she's unforgettable... Daisy Dukes, bikini on top..." @Over_Powar I think made a better one, but mine kinda works?
