Potentially, old school kickboxing used to be waist up, but I'd assume they just didn't throw. I noticed little to no straights to the body thrown as well.
It was originally called "Full Contact Karate". It was to be a platform to allow Karate practitioners and other Traditional stylists to fight in real contact and not be limited to light contact point sparring. It ended up being an amalgamation of boxing and Karate kicking. Throws were allowed early in its stages but later was disallowed. Foot sweeps were kept though. It inherited the no kicking below the belt level from traditional Karate. There is however was the "International rules" which was this platform plus low kicks above the knee cap were allowed.
