Here I show you how I have started using a legrope on Fiona our milking cow. Very quickly she got used to not being able to kick - and now the milking is so much easier and calmer for her and for me.
So helpful, thank you! I have a new milker who kicked...I wish I had read this before I spent the $ for a Kow Kant Kick! The natural way is always better...mine works, but...I was inexperienced and desperate, lol. This picture works forever and cost pennies, and, the cows learned.(-:
Tie cotten rope around both legs above hock. First in front of both hocks, then from both outside to inside making X. right goes inbetween inside to left front and left goes in between to right front making figure eight. Pull snug..hocks should come together. Tie slip knot and you can also tie tail at same time. Cow will learn not to kick and stand absolutely perfectly still. When done, release slip knot and your cotton rope falls off. I just use this loosely to tie tail so cow doesn't swish it. But I don't milk inside, but out in pasture. But very useful when needing cow to stand for a.i. or vet work and teaching cow to stand still.
Its looking good to see you. Most of girls avoid such type of all activity. But when i see you its totally opposite because you enjoy all activity. Grt job dear keep it up
Oh lovely to hear from you - my australian sister! Yes the legrope sure is a good idea - and yes that song doesn`t leave you straight away! Bless you my friend - and all your girls! Love Katrine
Hello Katrina, thank you so much I have just bought a new cow and calf and it’s really kicking hard while milking, I am from Hyderabad. I have a Devin breed cow and this breed of India is well know for for kicking I am looking for better solution for this problem. Please help me.
Dear Santosh I think this is the best method. Once the cow gets used to the legrope - she will relax. Make sure to give her some nice food while you put the rope on.. Bless you my friend!
Oh congratulations with your new calf!WeI have a 4 month old jersey-dexter mix - and soon two of our cows will give birth to the mase mix breed. God bless you dear friend - and your family and animals! love katrine
Oh I have 3 Dexter cows - and I am mixing them with jersey - so I can have mixed breed cows for furture milking. Allah bless you my friend! Love Katrine
Better if you tie both of the legs together. It wouldn't kick at all. You do not wash hands before resuming milking after touching cow body , rope or conteminated things around. That is unhygininc.
