My son did 2 civil engineering work co-ops on this project. What a great experience it was for him. I can't wait to drive through the finished project.
I really hope that some of the old highway in this section will be covered to pullover/sight seeing areas. There are spectacular views there, and it would be a shame to block their access/views unnecessarily.
I am NOT an engineer, nor am I a geologist so damn, I don't understand how they can put all that on the side of such a steep mountain and expect it all to stay there for more than a year or two. Smarter minds than mine, obviously.
Hi David. It's hard to compare when every country is different with different geography, weather systems and so on. Tunnels are considered if relevant to a particular project and decisions are made based on safety, cost, feasibility, etc.
If someone had said that Canada was only a 50-year old nation....or that this road was only a tertiary, or a back-up connecting route....then this construction project would be sometihng to be quite excited about and proud of. But neither of those things is true. Which is why it's instead a source of humiliating embarrassment.
