Pretty sweet, might have to get one. My only question is, and I only ask because it wasn't really covered in the video, but can you use the knife to open a bottle?
First thing I thought when I saw the knive was, "Hmm, would it open a bottle?" Thanks for answering that one quite clearly x] Awesome project, good luck!
;) you definitely nailed it withe the "it doesn't open bottles". You see it at every stupid new gadget, when all you need is a fork or any hard surface.
The Stanley knife has been around for half a century. It has a comfortable, ergonomic handle. That one looks like it uses the same blades in a hard-edged, uncomfortable handle, for several times the price. I guess that's progress.
you are probably about to be taught - mount that knife onto a sled, add rockets and your bottle opener might have the capability to slize through the middle of the bottle!
I really appreciate the design of it, but $80 retail for a holder for a utility knife blade seems a bit steep for me. congrats on the funding though and good luck in the future!
Jesus Christ David! Look at that beard!! I used to watch you a lot on Flitetest when you were in america, so sad to see you go. I always loved your project (afterburner vampire was rad)and then I sort of lost track of you. So glad to have found you again. And the maker knife looks awesome, keep it up
Been carrying a Gerber EAB utility knife for probably a decade, for many of the same reasons you made this knife, but as the wise Mr. Diresta noted, this thing is sexy AF! Nice job guys!
Would you consider making a slightly more robust version of the knife for heavier duty industry use once you are happy with the initial knife. Working in the construction industry I'd be very interested in one.
Hi I own 8 different pocket knives in a variety of price ranges which I carry every day. I would back it but the way the clip is designed makes me feel it won't settle into the back corner of my pants pocket. In your campaign it shows it being clipped to the front corner of the pocket but no one carries it like that. Some other knives have the clip mounted on the top but this design is pretty tall compared to an average knife. BTW holy crap haven't seen you in awhile and now that beard is HUGE lol
as a german i hear "but it can't open a bottle" and im just thinking what the hell are you talking about it has hard edges i can open every bottle with that thing
Wes Brackman the RC enthusiast Our government would just arrest the horse thieves. :/ You are absolutely allowed to carry a fixed blade in the UK but you can't go to Walmart with one. That's it. I regularly carry locking knives, or fixed blades but when I do so I'm at work. I don't wear one on my key ring because I don't need one, my SAK does a fine job of being a EDC knife. Essentially the only restriction in the UK is a fact you're expected to dress for the occasion.
If you’re engaged in an occupation or activity where you may need to use a knife you’d have the ‘Lawful authority or reasonable excuse’ defence. Ie, If you are some kind of tradesman (carpenter, electrician, fitter, handyman etc) at work, or on the way there or back it would be ok. If you were out on the beer on you day off it would not be Ok.
Indeed, but the leeway in that legislation is pretty big. I'm an industrial designer, and I use these knives constantly in my occupation, despite it not being a "tradesman". The police don't have the authority to question whether a certain trade uses knives or not, and more or less have to take your word on it.
Absolutely Switch and Lever. I was just giving an example. Leisure activities would also count (eg sailing, camping etc.) but there are still caveats. There are circumstances where you’d find it hard to justify, like the example I gave, going out on the town and getting drunk. Couldn’t really say you were camping, fishing, sailing, working as an industrial designer etc. The only defence you might have is that you’d come directly from work without going home to change. The judicial precedent (Court of Appeal) on it is old and centres around a chef nicked outside a pub with his work knives, having dropped in for a drink on the way home.
I already carry a Gerber multitool, which locks the knife & other tools when you open them, when I'm going out for a FPV session or similar, but as Alex points out I wouldn't really have a plausible defense if I was found to be carrying it on a trip to the shops to buy groceries. I wasn't trying to say that you couldn't carry this fancy knife in the UK, simply that it isn't suitable as a truly 'EDC' item for a UK resident :)
