great video guys, the Atari 400 mini has the ability to play all Atari computer games through USB. Also the joysticks that come with it are special, it looks like a single button joystick, however the add states and shows it has 3 extra buttons added to it 🕹👍
Signed copies? I have print 1 version of the SNES guide and a print 3 of the NES. I'm waiting for a signed book, or do I have to travel to a convention 2000 miles away to ever see such a thing.
I will definitely look at the Atari 400 mini. Never had an atari of any kind back in the day, but this does interest me. I have all the mini consoles apart from the Playstation so it will fit in nicely! Its not being made/sold by Atari and you can add games to it
I have mine preordered on Amazon….alresdy have a flash drive loaded with every Atari game made …. Can’t wait to see how they play on the mini!!!! Have fun when you get yours buddy!!!!!
In those first few seconds of this podcast after the intro music, as you introduced yourself and cohost, I realized: You are made to do this. You are a natural, a professional, and should be much much much bigger than you are. You should be on radio and TV. People should be throwing money at you. Slow clap and well done good sir. I am impressed.
Sardines have less mercury as opposed to bigger fish. Bigger fish eat lots of smaller fish, and they accumulate more mercury in their body because of it, so when we eat those bigger fish, we get that mercury in our bodies.
I think this is where I tap out and unsub. It was a fun ride, but playing games beyond what they were designed to do for some pennyless perk/stamp of approval is about where I've drawn the line on insanity. Have fun with your localization prototypes, tournament runs and cosplayers. The retro scene has turned into a fucking joke.
It is possible (probably not humanly possible but who knows at this point) to avoid every single trigger for the game crash in Tetris, get to level 255, complete 255, and go back to Level 0. Since the game crash is considered NES Tetris' killscreen, this has been dubbed as the "rebirth".
Holy hell you'd better get a defribulator in that studio ASAP, pat you should dial 9-1 then when Ian codes you can just hit 1 to call emergency services.
Remember that even though the Switch OLED MSRP is $350, that was not the first time Nintendo used that price point. The 32gb Wii U model was also $350 while the 8gb Wii U model was $300 so the Switch and Switch OLED are still at Wii U prices. Both had not gone higher than that so I doubt that $400 launch price tag for their newer console coming next year would be anywhere close to $400, if anything it's likely to be around $350-$380. Nintendo would be taking a huge risk selling it at $400.
That might have been true before the pandemic and quarantine happening across the world. There's been 2 years now of high inflation where its finally settling down, but pricing for all commodities have not dropped. So whatever materials are used to build Nintendo's next system will not be the same as the current one since those have been negotiated a while ago. Remember that Xbox series X and PS5 prices have gone up $50 from their launch prices, not down.
Saw Scuti on live stream, only the origh YT post has his total reaction. That was an emotional game session. I audibly cheered when he did it. Search Classic Tetris for some fun vids.Someone will smugde and break the screen smashing that X button down, that's gnar.
C’mon Pat. Nintendo spends enough time videostriking RU-vidrs, they could at least acknowledge that it’s pretty cool this kid loved their game enough to do something with it never before done. It’s like easy PR points. As for Pat’s comment about “You have to think about these people [the laid off workers],” I’m reading “the Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President” about Obama’s time trying to reel in the banking and automotive industries after their successive crisis, and their was literally ONE bigwig who made that point when they were debating slicing Chrysler up and feeding its remains to the other car companies to bring them back to health. One guy who was like the 50 year-old men who spent their lives in those factories aren’t going to be hired again. The CEOs can float over to another business, but the rank-and-file? They’ll be ruined.
The kid didn't beat tetris. If I was him I would be pissed off that everyone was going around saying that. It's misleading. He completed a challenge that was set outside the game, after the game's release, and by players. It was very hard and I am impressed with the dedication and skill it required, but he didn't "beat" Tetris.
@@nicolaspeter1679 2 big ones - first, the part about them playing with a backwards controller (see Goofy Foot controller), also, Ian's insistence that you can't play past that kill screen and that it can't roll-over (there's a number of different kill screens triggered by different conditions that you can bypass if you know what you're doing).
@@retro-computing-gaming when I saw the news about the kid beating Tetris, the first thought that came to my mind was how do you beat Tetris, doesn't the game just keep going forever and ever. I never knew there was a kill screen, but as I'm reading more up on it it seems to really depend on the circumstances, as there seem to be many different kill screens and rollover screens and different ways to trigger them
Guys you have no idea how quickly Atari 800 games sell when I get them in over here in the UK. Over there I get it the Atari 8 Bit computers were not a thing really but over here in the UK there is actually a bunch of people really excited for this Mini.
I think Pat is thinking about the 'Rebirth Screen' where it rolls over in Tetris. I watched a video where they explained that you could try to avoid the crash, and the very possible last level is 255 and all red, the. It will loop to the start again, but it will be very hard to get to that without the crash occurring before... Something like that anyway, was bit confused but amazed. Those guys that play Tetris at that level are amazingly skilled
Veggies were the same way, like fish, back in the day. I'm eating roasted seasoned Brussels sprouts right now and they are amazing- nothing like the boiled veggie sides I had when I was a kid. And my parents always did fish on Fridays, too. I enjoyed your tangent!
I was watching ‘Ecstasy of Order’ the documentary about the first Tetris championship in 2010 and was surprised to see Pat as the announcer. I’d be interested in hearing more about his experience and relationship to the Tetris community
What's even more crazy about the Tetris kill screen is that with a lot of luck, you can avoid it and I think it officially ends at level 255. 256 just rolls around to level 0 of the game. I'm betting at some point we'll see a TAS of it
The first AI-played run of it was posted just a day ago! Titled "First Ever AI Rebirth Screen". The scene sure moves fast! Pat and I were the commentators for the original 2010 CTWC, its amazing to see how far everything has come since then!
This is why it is BS that everyone is jumping right to saying that this kid "beat" the game. He completed a challenge that was set by a community after the game's release. That has nothing to do with actually beating Tetris.
Love you guys. But I'm gonna get mean. All love and no hate tho. How long has it been since I've watched a cupodcast. Like you boys have put some weight on Jesus the cheeks on pat and the girth of Ian.... Holy smokes it's been a long as time.
@@neoturfmasterMVS^This. I’m actually digging the bi-weekly schedule, as this way they have stuff to talk about. Rather than Ian just hating everything.
As one of the laid off folks (Bungie in late October) I can tell you that actually it's well over 10k people laid off in 2023. Though it's hard to know what the real number is. I appreciate the love and mentioning our situation. Means a lot to me!
Actually, I do. I'm connected with a bunch of industry analysts and folks that track this sort of thing. Most are saying it's well over 10k for last year. And we're up to 3500ish in the first three weeks of this year. I love Pat and Ian, but sometimes they quote certain things wrong. Which isn't a bad thing! They're not as connected in the inudstry as folks like me who work in it. It's why I wrote this correction. But thanks I appreciate it! Fingers crossed I'll have something in the next month or so. :) @@foreignuser_
@@foreignuser_That, and 343 is renowned as the people who killed Halo, what was once Microsoft's biggest IP. They finally decided to bail on MCC after a decade of development (development of already finished games, mind you), and it is still in a broken state. Truly pathetic output from that whole team.
Lol 😂. Yes I have a Atari 400 on pre-order. But I'm the target audience. I got a c64 mini and a amiga500 mini. I'm nostalgic for that time. BTW. it can load your own files off a USB drive. So you can play almost the whole library of games for it and even your own home brews. But yes, it is NOT for everyone. Just a small group of people like me. You guys take care 😊👍. That n64 book is mighty tempting.
That's actually true I didnt realize n64 really was like the first party console. Alot of good times with friends abd having sleepovers. Well played sir
The Atari 400 Mini might only have 25 built in games but it's designed so you can load your own games onto it via USB. It's made by Retro Games Ltd, the same group that made the C64 and Amiga Minis. You can't plug a cartridge in or put a floppy disk in, but you can load your own games off a USB stick. No need to hack/jailbreak it.
These guys are entertaining but they always jump to conclusions and make huge assumptions then poop on so many products, over and over, especially if it's Atari. Their show is pretty negative on the whole. I still enjoy listening though. It's like guys complaining about decisions made by their favorite sports team, except with video games. 😂
@@wesgeorge4112 Yeah it's disappointing they didn't do their research on this before pooping on it. I will agree with them on the price though, it's probably a bit too expensive. I've got my eye on it but might wait for sales.
First I do enjoy your podcast Pat and Ian however Pat how can you say the Atari 400 mini is a bad product when you don't know what it truly does (it doesn't need to be hacked to add games for the 5200, 800, and other Atari lines. Also the controller is special and has more buttons so it may be a great solution to play 5200 games. And you can use a USB keyboard and play 4 player games). Maybe read up on something for two minutes prior to telling the audience what a bad product it is.
They seem to also be completely unaware that this is a continuation of the C64Mini and A500Mini products, both of which sold for a similar or same price. I usually agree with them but they obviously didn't even watch the product intro video they have playing in the background before opening their mouths.
@@christopherfriend2224 absolutley correct!!!! Hillarious that the features of the unit they are slagging it doesn't have are literally on the ad behind them. Nice research!! Great point!!!!
They do this ALL THE TIME 😂 and they really don't care. That's why they poop on it, they do not care. There is no amount of research they will do that will change their minds.
@@wesgeorge4112 Yeah the so called experts can't take 5 seconds to prepare for discussing it. Or reserve final judgment until they see one in hand. Surprised that Ian being a 5200 fan wouldn't have an open midland to the fact you can download the entire 5200 library and play them with the new provided 7 button controller.
Ian: the hyperkin sega is $20 more that’s not inflation inflation hasn’t increased that much! Nintendo raises the price of their console by $100: proceeds to make a ton of excuses for why
Depending on how much better the new Switch is, $100 might be worth the improvements. But I’m not holding my breath. I have a love hate relationship with the switch.
I think you guys were a bit harsh on the 400 Mini. I looked up on ebay and is looks like a Atari 400 untested, no power cord, no software, can be listed at just under $200. I never had an Atari 8-bit computer, although I did briefly have a 5200 in the 90's, and I feel like I never gave it it's due. If I were to own one, I would want a 400 because that keyboard is Maryland flag-ugly, even if it is crap to type on, and an emulator that can play the whole range of games as well as 5200 (which has the same chips but they're routed differently, so it's easier to make a compatible emulator than compatible hardware) is desirable over getting vintage equipment, which will mean disks and tapes for some software. It's just easier to throw ROMs onto a USB stick. Personally, I would be getting this as a curio to sit on a shelf. I haven't bought many of the previous mini consoles because, who needs 'em? But I like the 400 as an object d'art. If it was styled after the more popular 800XL (IIUC), I wouldn't be interested. Pity the keyboard doesn't work (because if it did, they would say so) but that can be fixed.
Yes. You can avoid the crash and rollover Tetris to the first level. It’s incredibly difficult and hasn’t been done by a human yet, that’s the next challenge. Basically avoid certain line clears in certain levels. The base game stops counting at 999k and level 29, but the rom hack version the top players use (or a game genie code on the original cart) will count the score in hexadecimal and keep level count past level 29, where the game stops counting cause it was basically thought unnneeded by the programmers because they thought no one could get past it. And yes there are separate tourneys for traditional plays (DAS) but not many, most of the competition at the higher level are rollers. With the occasional very high level DAS or hyper tap player making it decently far in any bracket.
@@minimalchill My wife left me. I lost my kids and I don't know what do without them. Everyday I keep thinking about my kids not visiting me. It's really getting to me, to the point where I just can't keep going on with my life anymore. When I wake up, I wonder what it is like to just give up on everything. My life is just meaningless. But today was the day I was going to do it! Finally I could be free! Just this once! I drove to the nearest cliff near me, got out of the car. I took a deep breath. But I had a sudden pain that was really hurting me. I looked down towards my leg and I noticed.... I tore my Quad.
This isn't the end of Tetris. Pat is right that it can eventually roll over. There are actually dozens of different kill screens. The true end of Tetris is to avoid the kill screens until you get to the point where it rolls over. What happened was they finally reached one of the kill screens and caused a crashed, which hadn't happened before. Funnily enough, he didn't even hit the first kill screen.
You know I cant believe they couldnt realize The problems with people eating More fish: overfishing, slave Labour and that we just dump all our waste into seas so The fish are filled with microplastic and stuff. I mean sure all that stuff applies to other food stuffs too like we Have ruined rain water but you know. Its all awful now. Also fishsticks are The Best havent had those for a while But still.
People seem to fail up in the workplace. Being more efficient just makes more work for me. I've accepted it. It seems to be the nature of the workplace. Corporate or blue collar.
the fish thing has to do with heavy metals. the higher on the food chain the more collect in the animal. so large predators have higher amounts because they collect everything every step on the chain has absorbed. so sardines will be cleaner.
With the Tetris stuff, while he got to the kill screen, I think there is opportunity to get more rows or levels depending on how it is played to get there. Could be wrong.
Everyone should not eat fish. It's not sustainable for everyone to eat fish. A good quality beef is probably just as healthy and better for the environment.
