This is such a great video and I now know how my Dad felt when he took my Sister and I fishing when we were about that age. I’m so glad he did though... I lost my Dad to Leukemia in 2009 and even though his doctors told him to not spend too much time outside, one of the last Father/Son moments we shared was at the lake bass hunting all day. I don’t have kids just yet but I cannot wait to spend my summer afternoons with my kids at the lake. Thanks for sharing! 👍👍

Awesome! I love taking the little ones out! My baby girl caught her first a couple of weeks ago! Three kids on the river bank is interesting sometimes but ALWAYS worth it! Cool to see all the support for these types of videos too. We just started our channel about a year ago. Good to know there is an audience for it! Good job dad and great video!

This video by far is my absolute favorite. It reminded me of when my dad and I would wake up at the crack of dawn , head to 7-11 to get hot chocolate and fish at the Army base. Taught me to bate my own worm, minis and crickets. Patient, nurturing, fun and supportive. All qualities of a great dad. Awesome Channel, keep feeding your passion!

This is an amazing video, I tried taking my twins (turn 2 this week) and my oldest (turns 5 next month) and I had a hard time keeping up with them trying to keep the twins happy with snacks so they'd stop trying to put dirt in our ice-chest while letting my 4 y/o cast his reel. It was a fun memory but A LOT of patience if I'm being honest. I'm excited to do it again (I'm tired just thinking about it though lol).

Good for you dad, thanks for posting. About to take my little guys and anxiety just thinking about how it’s going to go, but know they will love it once you feel that hit. Trying to keep myself ok with not doing any fishing myself while we are out there. Good little bit of tips here. Awesome you are teaching them. As far as the mud part goes again been trying to train myself to just let them have at it. Reminds me of what I’ve been told of dog training, it’s only 10 percent of training the dog , but 90 percent of training the the owner or parent in this case. Well done

I'm 9 years old and once I turn 13 I want to take my two nephews fishing and hopefully catch some nice fish one will be five and one will be six thanks for the tips man great vid

Whenever I was a kid and my dad took me fishing it was never about fishing it was about spending time with my dad.. 19 years later I'm matching my pops with 4+ pound fish.. fishing is the ultimate bonding sport

Haha good video! It’s so hard not to get frustrated with the little ones when trying to teach them something.

I’ve been taking my kids “fishing” since my daughter was 6 months old. I’d take her to the lake with me and fish while she hung out in her stroller. Sometimes she’d sit and observe and sometimes she’d sleep. As she got older I’d let her help me reel fish in and eventually she was using her own rod and reel. Now she’s 8 and I kid you not, she can out fish a lot of the time. I have a son who’s 5 and he’s beginning to take an interest in it as well. The excitement you see on their faces when they watch you catch a fish and then when they catch their first fish is something you’ll always remember. The biggest piece of advice I can give to anyone trying to teach their little ones how to fish is this: Leave your rod and real at home when you’re first starting with them. It should be 100% about them and helping them out and you can’t do that if your trying to catch your own fish. There were times early on that I’d try to fish while helping my little ones and it’s almost impossible when your untangling lines, undoing snags, putting new worms on... every 30 seconds. Talk about frustrating if you’re trying to fish. But when you make your focus completely about the kids then none of that stuff matters because you’re expecting to do those things. You’re not worried about catching you’re own fish. It makes it so much more enjoyable for you and as Cornell said it makes for s positive experience for them. My daughter is old enough now that she don’t need my help and I can bring my gear to the lake too. Patience pays off when teaching kids how to fish!

If you want to make a good fishing lure for a kid to use on a rod and reel you can modify a BeetleSpin by attaching a very small wire bream hook to the existing hook so it extends to the tip of the plastic grub on the lure. You can bend the eye of the small wire hook to attach it then bend it back in place to secure it. When a small bream or bass nibbles on the end of the plastic grub (they usually do this and avoid the main hook) they will almost always make contact with the attached hook and be caught. This will greatly increase their catch rate and make fishing fun! I`ve used this myself and it works great!
