I loved it when your daughter patted the seat of her bike! A show of affection to her trustworthy steed. Confidence with machines and tools will strengthen their minds, and you’re expanding their world by showing them what happens “inside the box”. Just wait a few years when they suggest something before you think of it, or remind you to check something you’ve taught them in the past- it’s an “over-the-moon” moment! Thanks for giving us a peek - it brings back lovely memories of my dad’s tutelage, and of my own kids’ growth as fixer-uppers!

You are a great Dad Marty, teaching the kids at the right age and they will remember it forever. My Dad taught me at 12 years old how to fix motor-cycles and how they worked. Little later he introduced me to motor cross and started racing for several years, always teaching me new things and how to solve problem... Welding, cutting, engine work, he could do it all. Now 50 years later I still cherish those moments with him. Cheers Marty from Texas. 🤠

Dad just might have made a huge mistake, my oldest granddaughter come out to help work on my jeep so I let her. She's 24 now and owns 2 jeeps, a sand rail and she does all the work on them and when visiting me she loves working on my 1976 Ford F250. Give kids something to do and they might just find there dream hobbies.

Our kids, a son and daughter, both now in their 40's learnt to work on vehicles when they were very young. I bought an old VW beetle, got them to pull it right apart then convert it to a short platform bush buggy. They both also learnt the basics of driving in the Buggy. Son became an Electrical Engineer, daughter became an Executive Chef, who also knows how to fix stuff with spanners. Great stuff Marty, spending time with your kids and them learning "life enhancing" skills.

My Dad had a Rambler obsession. I painted one with a brush while he was at work one day. My Mom said he was going to be mad. He showed me how to wet sand it instead. Man, that was work for a 9 yr. old but I did it. Took 3 days and he buffed it out. Did a '69 GMC 20 yrs. later. Never told the guy that bought it it was done that way. He loved that heap. lol Great kids. Great Dad.

Our 3 all had motorbikes from 5 years of age and the fun they had was immense. Do them a favour and invest in full face motorbike helmets’ it’s worth the investment to protect their heads and faces 😉
