as an Ex Karate practitioner (shotocan Karate - brown belt) I can tell you that the secret is in the clothes and fibers, the fibers are made of light material (cotton) and the sleeves and leggings are too wide, so when you make a fast movement it sounds like a parachute, or like the sound of a waving flag. Karate is great for intimidating your foe out of a fight, but in a real fight... it really depends on the branch you practice, shotocan Karate for example (which is the most popular branch) does not help you in a fight and I would even say it decreases your fighting efficiency, while more brutal schools that stick to the Okinawan roots (Kyokushin is the most famous) would make your fighting better. I would also like to add that these are still arts, and not complete self-defense skills, Karate will not teach you how to grapple, fight really close, or how to fight once you fall to the ground.

Karate teaches you so much about life lessons, self defense, perseverance, dedication, courage. Karate and martial arts are great for kids. I was a really active little boy, and when I went to Tae Kwon Do classes twice a week I could actually concentrate on homework and fall asleep easily those nights. I did western style boxing when I was a teenager and spending the afternoon at the gym wiped me right out. Sometimes I'd go to bed at 9pm. For me, boxing taught me to push past the point of "I don't want to do this anymore" and work through discomfort, which has been a tremendous mental asset in adult life. Sparring in the gym, win or lose, teaches you something that school can never teach you about what you're made of, your strengths and weaknesses and deciphering other peoples' body language. It helped me avoid trouble so many times as a young man in my 20's.

I don't know what size community you live in, but maybe drop in for a beginner class at a school or three. If the instructor isn't to your liking, check out the next place. I initially started in a small town of 12,000 with my overweight buddy at age 16, and we quickly moved forward into adult classes. The rest of the beginner class were kids aged 6-10. We used the buddy system, always pairing together and had a good time. I was a 100lb weakling and he was close to 300lbs. I think in our first month I gained 1/4 lb and he lost nearly 20 lbs going to class 3x a week. More importantly, we both felt a lot better about ourselves and strengthened our friendship into brotherhood.

This is my favourite “Kids Meet” yet, and maybe my favourite hiho ever. The black belt 🥋 was awesome with the kids, everyone involved was excited and engaged, and perhaps best of all, the kids left feeling empowered and proud of themselves. Keep it up!

Best way to teach kids karate is make it fun. I do it at my club for teaching them do a bit of serious training then do something fun like a game,play fighting or get the break boards out like he did on here to build their confidence up.

Our instruction makes us wear pink or purple belts whenever we forget to bring our belts to class. We do Taekwondo, so there isn't really any pink or purple belts in the system either.

Tony Sosa It all depends on where you do it. All Martial arts is different across the world. Some places only accept black belts at 12+ so you are incorrect.

i started karate when i was 7 years old and i got my black belt when i was 16 years old. it took me about 9 years long to get it and he got it in just 4 years. wow. respect! ✨

hun huni most students goes 2 days a week, total of 2 hours. I went 5 days a week with 10-20 hours training.

my step grandmother was a black belt to the 3rd degree when she retired from karate. at one point she was one of the best in the world. i think thats pretty cool.
