I agree with you but this movie is based on reality. The mom can teach her son how to exist in that reality but can't control the news articles and other parents. She can only help him so much so he will have to learn to fight his own battles. I don't think the moral of this was that oppression is okay, just that it exists and showed the frustration and lack of satisfying happy endings.

Most of the time it’s not the case in real life. I feel a lot of people in the comments are missing the point of this short film. This video isn't to address that discrimination is bad--we all know it is. Its addressing the reality of the world for many who share Keisuke's experience. The film ends this way, because Keisuke's 'battles' wont just end at the school--it'll be something he'll have to battle his entire life and he'll ultimately be stronger for it. So in the film, you're either in Keisuke's shoes, the little boy who accepts him with open arms as his friend, or the ignorant kids on the majority side who turn a blind eye.

I’m from Taiwan and my bf is black. We have been bothered by this kinda racist issue in my country even though we tried to live our own life. He said he feels uncomfortable when people are staring at him or talking behind him. I never dated any black person before so I couldn’t understand it when we first got together. One time we got blocked the way when going upstairs back to our apartment room by a nosey, bossy and arrogant neighbor, so I ended up calling the cops to help us. People have to learn to respect the difference from their own kind. I truly hope everyone will be aware of the importance of eliminating the racism.
@teflerchina.2987
@teflerchina.2987 2 года назад
I am a white guy. When I was in England, my home country, I dated a couple of West Indian girls and was stared at by many white people. Didn't bother us at all as we knew how ignorant they were. Now, my wife, since 2007, is Chinese and we got many criticisms of her being with a white foreigner. Once people got to know us their attitude changed for the better and we have many Chinese friends. I also had students who have a black parent. They were accepted by their peers and teachers. Also had black friends who were teachers in the same city/province who were not discriminated against. Not everyone is racist. Depends on the city or province as some are more racist than others.

Truly a genuine heart to help him. I'm sure that he caught some backlash from his peers as well. What upset me the most was the depiction of the Aids patients. They only showed melinated people which leads to stereotypes and misinformation about our people just like all the other communication outlets project about us in reality. Most people in the comments talking about this like they experienced as black man but never actually experienced it to understand it. But it’s different when one day you move abroad and you’re the only black kid in a school of a couple thousand and everyone takes the piss out of you cos you talk road since your from east London and teachers be writing false reports that never happened and even when I wasn’t in school and all the other kids ignore you or come up to a pretend to try and buy coke of you as joke with all their friends. They be touching your hair like your some exotic zoo animal and call you N*****, monkey, kunta kinte and you can’t defend yourself or stand up for yourself because it’s you against a whole society that isn’t meant to tolerate you, you can’t tell teachers cos they don’t care or understand and their parents. They call me African when I’m Caribbean but they don’t know the difference, they think all black people come from Africa on the back of a truck or on a raft Being the one black kid in a school is one thing but being one of a few in an entire region is another thing.

its just because there different. (if you went to a predominately black country, everyone would look at you with intrigue too). it happens in every species. when your different, you either become a subject of admiration or scorn. but by human nature, most are scared of "different" individuals, most are scared of "change".. its also easier to hate than to show love. (and some kids are just nasty.. BULLYS by nature) if the students were educated before hand, then this new/different student would be a subject if curiosity and admiration. its the teachers fault and the parents, for not teaching the children that many people exists in this world.

This wonderful film brings back memories for me, so many years ago, when I was the first and only foreign (white) child in my Japanese kindergarten. I don't remember being bullied, but I was at first an object of great curiousity. I remember two boys sitting behind, taking a hair from my head, and one explaining to the other, "Gaijin (foreigner)'s hair is really brown. Take it home and put it in water and you will see its color, it's brown not black". I was a little science experiment for them. But I remember being so happy there. 60 years later, and on the other side of the world, I can still sing all my Japanese kindergarten songs. To this day it is one of the best parts of my life. Though it leaves me, deep inside, part Japanese.

keisuke is such a sweet boy, and there should be more kids like the one who became his friend and actually did his research on AIDS. even if he didn’t do research, learning about the person first and confirming your beliefs about what the other person has or why their skin color is different from yours by using the internet instead of your parents, who also have opinions and beliefs and biases that might not be correct or the same as yours, makes it easier on the other person, and allows you to become friends with some of the most amazing people that you could’ve ended up against if you hadn’t. it’s okay to believe what your parents or the media believe, but research always makes one helluva difference.

Byproduct of the system white supremacy has left on us, remember they tricked the lighter ones into ruling in their place in colonial times because they let them think they were close enough to them thus making them better then the dark ones so that mindset stuck a bit; it’s kinda while former Asian colonial nations have that lighter skin culture, it’s the same mindset just different ethnicity.

Being racist, homophobe, sexist, etc... is part of "Freedom of Expression". There were many votations at UN about forbiding racism, xenophobia, and nazism in all countries. The Western countries + Japan voted against this resolution, while other non white countries + Russia agreed with the resolution. Western countries said that they voted against because it goes against the freedom of expression. Many non-white democracies with freedom of expression voted YES... why did they "go against freedom of expression"? White people are the most benefited from racism, and thats the reason they voted against. DONT FORGET THAT!

Most of our children have asiatic features. My little cousin looks just like him. And if he had pale skin you would automatically call him asian. But because he has dark brown skin he is not according to social labeling. Those of us with those features are connected to the original indigenous parts of Asia as well. The only thing is we have been miseducated so much in our lives, had our family structure broken, that we hardly know where we come from. If you have very brown skin you are automatically labeled “African” no matter if that is a fact or not. No matter if you’ve ever even met anyone FROM Africa. You are African. This indoctrination is deep rooted

Being a black kid growing up among light skinned tribe since my dad was posted to teach there. Funny enough at school no one wanted to play with me and all they did was sing nasty songs and bully me. But our neighbor was a white British boy whose parents were missionaries at the school where my dad taught and he was the only one I would come home and play with since we were agemates and he never cared I was the darkest big he had actually ever seen .

Keisuke is half Black. So the fact that he's part Black is why he's treated with racism. Which pretty much negates what you're saying in reference to this video. Now if you're talking about colorism then...most definitely. Colorism is an issue within racial groups where a person of the same race discriminates against another due to their darker complexion. Even though Keisuke is half Japanese he is also half Black. Which means that though he is Japanese....like everyone else he is not the same as them...Racially. His life experiences wont ever be like theirs. He is like them, but not like them. If that makes sense. So no...they are not of the same race. He is Bi-Racial. Doesn't matter if he decides to identify as one racial group over another. Genetic wise he will still have differences compared to his Asian Japanese counter parts...and that's perfectly fine.

When he becomes a teen he will be popular usually because of height. Japanese people are fascinated by anything thats different from them. He will get lots of modeling offers and job opportunities. Most mixed race kids are treated differently and struggle during his age. If his mother was black he would have a sense of confidence in his dark skin or hair and culture. Biracial kids(black and non black) who have a non black mother struggle the most with identity 🤔 and the black fathers are usually absent fathers. Its actually a big issue in Japan. An African American women opened a business in Japan to track African American fathers for child support because black men neglect their kids and responsibilities.
