The other version of the English dub to Kiki’s delivery service didn’t have either of these songs. And there was also added dialogue that I don’t remember being there before. And honestly I liked the other version better than the one I’ve been seeing before because of that lol
@@IMEEntertainment I’m. Not entirely sure. Are these songs are from the Disney version? If so then, along with you mentioning that the dub was edited, I might’ve seen the Disney version of the dub BEFORE the edit happened
@@quirkyeggmuffin The 2010 Disney edit replaces these English songs with the original Japanese songs and removes much of the extra dialog (mainly Jiji's extra chatter) that Disney added in when they originally produced the dub in 1998. As for the Streamline dub, it's only physical release was on a Ghibli laserdisc set, so I highly doubt you've seen that one unless it was on those illegal streaming sites.
@@IMEEntertainment Huh. Ok so that means I have been watching the edited Disney version back then and only recently watched the one before it was edited which I’ve stated I liked better. Lol well that clears a bit of confusion
@@quirkyeggmuffin Yeah, I guess so. I would have gone over the versions that do have the original and edited version, but i'm not sure what country you live in, so I didn't say anything about that.
Am I a huge moron? I thought “Soaring” was that song “Perfect Day” by Hoku. There’s a part that sounds identical, where she sings “soaring” and it sounds the same as perfect day at the chorus. Dang.
Disney edited the movie in 2010, and yes they did replace the songs with the original Japanese ones and edited the dialog. Sadly, this version is used on almost all English Blu-Ray releases, and the HBO Max version too, but the original 1998 Disney english version with these songs is on Netflix (Outside the States).
Yes the reissue Japan dvd is the edited version, same as blu-ray. This change came from Ghibli themselves who asked Disney to change it. They are now lost media like Warriors of the Wind.
Came here to say this! Gigi's meow is different too! What a weird change... My Blu-ray of this film doesn't have these changes, which I'm glad for... I was really disappointed when this song didn't play on the HBO Max version.
....I got the VHS copy. As much I'm glad that studio ghibli is now under HBOMAX, at the same time I kinda miss the Disney days....maybe I'm biased but I felt like under Disney, studio ghibli has the more exposure.
Agreed. This movie actually convinced me that not all dubs are terrible at all. They did a fantastic job with all the voices and the music selection is absolutely on point. I loved watching back in the day when it aired on the Disney Channel, before streaming became a thing.
These songs are on the first issue Japanese dvd, and the first Us laserdisc and dvd. The first issue Totoro dvd in Japan also has the Fox dub. Even the first Japan Dvd for Castle in the sky has the old dub before Disney. The ghibli Japanese laserdisc box is the only place to find the JAL dub for Kiki.
Hey Harry! I got three questions! 1. Can you add Baby Shamu and his Seastars in the October parade? 2. Can the Arthur balloon return in the Thanksgiving Day Parade?
Maybe, as I do want to find more unique characters I haven't added before as well as some returnees, and i'll likely make a new Arthur balloon as the old one is too small.
If you're from the US or Canada, maybe get a VPN and watch the film on Netflix. This song and the other one play on the Netflix print. Otherwise, get the 2003 DVD.
@@kassandrarodriguez8057 Essentually, the 1998 VHS, 2003 VHS and 2003 DVD releases contain the song and the other one. As for Netflix, if you want to watch it on there you'll need a VPN because (HBO) Max has the streaming rights to Ghibli films in the States and the version of Kiki they have on there is the edited version with the Japanese songs. The safest bet is to try and track down a copy of the 2003 DVD on Amazon or something (It says "Walt Disney Home Entertainment Presents a Studio Ghibli film" above, while the 2010 Disney DVD has a little Totoro icon above and says "Disney Presents a Studio Ghibli Film".)
I know the later US DVDs don't have these songs, but I'm very curious about the current Region 4 Aus/NZ discs. I have one from 2004 which of course has them, but as far as I know the 2004 DVD has never been out of print, with websites still showing the 2004 release date and the MMA2302 product number from that time. Madman (Crunchyroll Australia now) definitely has the edited dub since they showed it at Ghiblifest 2017, and I assume it's on the bluray version since those are all post 2010, but I'm very tempted to buy a new Region 4 DVD and see if they updated the master with the edit or if it's still the same 2004 master with the Sydney Forest songs and Jiji lines.
The Blu-Ray does have the edited version. The UK Blu-Ray is the same as the Australian version except for the change in distributor logos (Madman to StudioCanal). StudioCanal did re-release the film with their logos, but I have no idea what version they used was. I only have the 2003 Buena Vista UK DVD and the 2001 Buena Vista/Ghibli ga Ippai Japanese DVD.
@@IMEEntertainment Just got a new copy off the shelf the check, looks like it is the same 2004 master with the Sydney Forest songs, the same trailers and the old Madman logo. So that's useful to know, since that means it's a still-in-print obtainable source for the old version if you can track down a multizone DVD player. It also means I now have a second copy of it, but there are far worse things to have two copies of than the 1998 dub of Kiki's Delivery Service.
@@megatronacepticon Being honest, the UK StudioCanal re-releases were all reissues as well (I own a few of them through the Blu-Rays) as they all retain Optimum Releasing (the former name of StudioCanal UK) logos. These releases aren't in print anymore after a row between Goodfellas (the international sales holder for Studio Ghibli outside Asia and North America) and StudioCanal UK.
