I see the 2023 on the shelf...I wonder if I should pick it up and compare it to the 2022.

@@whiskeyisajourney it's makes for good content. I couldn't decide if the affordable Sanaig or the $100+ Loch Gorm was what I needed in a 46% sherried peat. I never tried the Sanaig as of yet. It's hard not to be disappointed. BUT.. I asked my local shop to get the Loch Gorm, after I spent $135 on a 9 year bourbon cask single barrel release. They sold it out faster than the other versions. But after the disappointing neck pour it really opened up. The fruity sweetness now shines, past the shoulder and the label. Just not sure if I'd replace it. I like the USA releases. They are higher ABV and blended with different casks and only $10-15 more then the Sanaig.

@@whiskeyisajourney Depends on your preference. First of all I 'm a whisky novice and my palette still needs to develop. But tasting the Loch Gorm 2023 just makes me smile, it starts with nicely balanced smoky flavours and then develops into really smooth sweet notes which linger in the back of my mouth. Maybe a bit like a smoky Bunna 12. I can't tell if it's complex or not, for me it's easier to pick out nuances with unpeated bourbon driven whiskies like the Glencadam 10, the Classic Laddie and the Deanston 12, sherry influences are harder to determine at the moment. I do know that I like it more then Bunna 12, the Edradour Caledonia and even the Springbank 10, I haven't tasted the edition from 22 so I can't compare. Based on how reviewers like you describe and rate some of the whiskies I've mentioned I won't be surprised though that in the future I would rank it differently. Cheers!

@@whiskeyisajourney I have had a bottle of the Loch Grom 2022 and 2023 and compared them side by side and liked the 2023 quite a bit more. The 2023 had more depth and complexity for me. I would not buy another bottle of 2022 but I would definitely buy another 2023.

Great video Peter! Just poured Machir Bay last night and forgot how incredible it is for the money. I am able to buy it here in the Midwest for $55 + tax. Different but in profile but can hold its own with my other peated cheapies, Lagavulin 8 and Ardbeg wee beastie. Cheers!

Great flight Peter! I’m a big Kilchoman fan, especially the 100% Islay releases and the Fino cask matured from last year was wonderful. I have an Impex 12 year single cask, cask strength, that is absolutely great…..any of the Impex single casks are great!
@whiskeyisajourney

I've only tried Machir Bay and Sanaig. I usually prefer my sherried whiskies un-smoky/peaty and my smokey whiskies ex-bourbony. So much to my surprise I still enjoy Sanaig best of the two. I've gone through like three bottles of each and I like both enough to keep them available all the time but Sanaig is still where Kilchoman to my taste excels. Is the Loch Gorm different enough that I should shell out a third more in price?
@whiskeyisajourney

Loch Gorm is very much a sherry forward expression with a light/medium peat note. I think it's worth it.
@Rohit_M

It's maa-keer-bay based on previous reviews by some. I believe Machir Bay came out with a CS version a couple of years ago or maybe before that. I have Sanaig which I love for the Sherry notes and some peat. Admittedly, I have not been able to find Loch Gorm in my market and would love to try it if I can get it locally.

I did not expect that! I thought the Loch Gorm would or the Sanaig would be higher. I've tried the Machir Bay and the Sanaig, and I absolutely love the Sanaig. Kilchoman seems to be doing great things, I just hope their prices will stay reasonable. Great video btw, cheers!

Nice Flight.. I've only ever had the Kilchoman Sanaig I must have liked it because I finished it over Christmas hoildays 😂😂... I'm very interested in trying more of the 100% Barley bottles I've seen coming out recently I see Bruichladdich has a Islay Barley out and Springbank has a 10yr local Barley, good to know Kilchoman has a Barley out as well very interested in trying this now... Cheers Peter 🥃 🥃🥃
