Doc shows natural and organic ways to kill Japanese Beetles and bugs in the garden. The results are pretty amazing. He also shows the organic bug spray used in the vegetable garden.

I have been using these bag a bug traps for about 5 years with good success. A tip: Place the traps around the perimeter of your property. That way you are drawing the beetles off of your property, not on your property.

There is controversy that those bug bags attract more of the beeetles from further away. We had a couple of bad years of them a few years ago here in Minnesota. I filled 10 of those bags up full of beetles in one month. Many "experts" said not to use them anymore. I dont know what to think, but it was satisfying to get rid of that many beetles.

With 40 acres and very little wind, we really don't have to worry. Also, just how far can a "beetle smell". If the beetles are in your gardens already... they will go to the bags. We've done this enough with a LOT of bags to watch.

That argument always amuses me...if you attract more beetles INTO THE TRAP and they DIE...the problem is what exactly? I'm on 20 acres and have seen a decline in the numbers generally. Getting the traps out just before emergence is helpful, and I'm adding milky spore to the arsenal this year for the grubs.

Also chicken will eat those Beatles dead or alive if you dump the bag in front of them it’s free chicken food.

This is the worst I have ever seen it! I live just south of Charlotte, in Lancaster. I would say we will all need to treat heavily for grubs this year!

I’m in York and hear everybody talking about how bad it is. It was terrible at my place last year and they really damaged my Zoysia lawn while in the grub stage. I treated with The Anderson’s DuoCide last fall and this spring and BOOM, I haven’t seen but a half dozen or so this summer that I’m sure came from my neighbor’s lawn. They’re eaten up with ‘em. I learned a good lesson.

I use the bag traps on the edge of my property and away from vegetable garden. I suspended the bag above a bucket of soapy water catching even more beatles. Its also in the area of Rhubarb, Marigolds and Rose of Sharon that they seem to favor. I pick those off by hand in the evenings when they are less active. I also use Milky Spore in fall and grub killer in spring. I have noticed a dramatic drop in population since ive done this.

These bags are great. I've been using them for many years, but this year the beetles have been EXTRA! I have already replace one trap bag four (4) times. Yeesh. They were designed to place away from the target plants, but they are MOST effect near the plants as explained by Doc. It has to be close enough to attract them away from the plant/tree/bush.
@fartboobs
@fartboobs Год назад
Have you considered that using the bags for multiple years has attracted more beetles to your property, or increased the breeding of the existing beetles?
@mindbusiness9734
@mindbusiness9734 Год назад
@@fartboobs I have not considered that I may be attracting more beetles to my property. Usually if that is happening they are coming specifically for the bait in that bag, and all I know is that it is hard for them to reproduce when they are dead. It usually saves my trees, so it's preventing damage. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

We previously used these bags, but found that they were attracting more beetles than would be in the area otherwise. Some neighbors continued using them but we stopped and we have less beetles around our home. Not many use these bags in our neighborhood anymore. (SE WI)
@HowTowithDoc
@HowTowithDoc Год назад
I'm not sure how you would quantify that finding. i.e. how far can a beetle "smell" and would the beetles trapped also been attracted to flowers and plants in your yard anyways. With 40 acres we don't have to worry about "attracting them" they are HERE and we simply use the bags to direct them to their demise
@tomshowen8363
@tomshowen8363 Год назад
@@HowTowithDoc You make valid points Doc. Your 40 acres is a huge difference from our 1/4 acre lot. We still haven't seen many beetles up here. I did apply a Tree & Shrub Protect and Feed product this spring. (A mix and pour at tree base) This also protects against Japanese Beetles, White Fly, Gypsy Moth, and Emerald Ash Borer. Maybe this is keeping them away as well. Bees still love the flowers in our Linden trees. Enjoy your channel. Looking forward to learning more lawn care ideas.

Have you ever tried just H2O and dawn spray for garden pest without other products? I ask because I saw a You Tube channel (can't recall) do an experiment on Dawn and H2O compared with other types of products the kill/defend against garden bugs and Dawn won hands down. I'd be interested in seeing another gardener compare Dawn to other products on individual produce plants to determine effectiveness.

Water + Dawn would be a partial success. Its not just one thing - you would need many tools to get them under control.

Hi, I couldn't find any other way to communicate to you something about the McLane lawnmower I purchase greatly influenced by your RU-vid videos. Are you aware that the McLane reel mower cannot cut at the advertised cutting heights with the McLane supplied grooved roller? You would need to purchase the Reel Rollers grooved roller with a smaller diameter to achieve the McLane advertised cutting heights - another $200 investment!
@HowTowithDoc
@HowTowithDoc Год назад
The GR series will cut down to 3/4" roughly and go up to about 1.5", you can do some mods and get it down to about 1/2". The GK will cut down to just over 1/8" but only goes up to about 3/4". We drilled an extra hole in the lever bracket but that's not easy. So yes you can buy the smaller diameter roller instead.

Is the vag made of plastic??? The instructions sat to throw away the vag after itbus full. That makes no sense since it will fill up cmvery quicky and is suppose to last the entire battle season! I have sent the company a question. Another seller's product looks the same basically but the bags are strong plastic and are said to be reusable. That makes more sense.
@HowTowithDoc

@@HowTowithDoc then how are they supposed to last for an entire season play fail up so fast that it would cost a fortune to keep buying them for the whole season if you don't reuse the bags
