@@atlasfeynman1039 I actually think the opposite. Neil is forever overtalking and interrupting his guests. Chuck actually seems to bring the conversation around, to engage the guests more. He does that with comedy, which isn't always my ideal, but it's necessary to do it some way or another. To invite a guest onto the show then prevent them from speaking and sharing their knowledge is not very respectful.
@atlasfeynman1039

@$H0-TyMe StarTalk succeeded well before Chuck arrived as an intermittent co-host and there are at least 3 other official co-hosts. Chuck is my favorite co-host, but NDT is THE HOST. Do not pretend that you read NDT's books, otherwise you WOULD be here to hear HIM break it down for YOU who cannot possibly understand, even if you grasp the language. Chuck has his own podcast and a few failed stand up attempts that I dare you to laugh at. If you're only here for Chuck, then you're in the wrong place.

I adore this show and have consumed it on YT and podcast every chance I get. I have watched Battlebots with my sons for a decade or so and was EXTREMELY EXCITED to watch this one. Guys…..PLEASE ALLOW YOUR GUESTS TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS!!!!!! 🤦‍♂️😖🙄 Ray wasn’t allowed to answer several of your most pertinent questions about Tombstone and the sport due to being talked over until the next question was presented like rules of the sport, autonomy, approach, tactics etc etc

Hi, Andrei from Glitch (Combat Robotics at Berkeley). The autonomous portion perked my interest since there was large discussion on a targeting system in my subteam! It is much, much harder and expensive than many thought adding the components, electronics, coding, integration, and making its worth in weight and performance (and 500 other factors) that are still being discussed for the possible future to make a good show. Thanks for giving attention to BattleBots and I hope you enjoy the fights!

I noticed that too. Gary was able to hold his own with the science yet to keep it all watchable, digestible. Although Chuck takes the role of the class clown, he also brings more knowledge than he's sometimes credited with. What Chuck has is comprehension. Give him a concept and he'll get it. I think Chuck and Gary pair well together.

EDIT: just saw the updated thumbnail with the correct bot. leaving this comment but adding this notation out of principle. wonderful job! HEY just an FYI you made a little error with your thumbnail. You're interviewing Ray Billings who's current robot is Tombstone. Your thumbnail shows a robot named Dissector. Dissector was built by Donald Hudson for the original run of Battlebots on comedy central and weighs in at a full 75 pounds more than Tombstone. Dissector is also retired, having been a multiple championship title winner in its super heavyweight division and has not competed in around 15 years or so. Just figured you would appreciate a little heads up!

For anyone who's interested, there are lots of competitions for smaller weight classes, usually spectators can come watch for free, and it is not difficult or expensive to build your own bots ($250 or so for everything you need to have a fairly competitive bot or about $100 for the absolute minimum). There are also several companies offering kit bots which are as easy to assemble as most Ikea furniture ranging in price fro $250-$500 or so. Check www.robotcombatevents.com for listings of events and www.reddit.com/r/battlebots to connect with a community of fans and builders. If you are interested and have questions most builders are more than happy to help.

Printed titanium with graphene? How about boron nitrite doping of the graphene? That's armor, and for weapons, you need a modification of the trebuchet, which hits, and the hammer then rotates to impact again. This gives you more spin to inertial transfer, but you need to somehow create this at a variable angle, so that it can shift from lateral to perpendicular quickly. Perhaps by an elevating front suspension, so that the trebuchet has more distance on the strike. The bonus is that the Graphene compound will float on water, and so you get more weight to "play with" depending on what you build in. (since it's stronger than steel and harder than diamond, a saw blade comes to mind. ) And the robotic version of a zamboni. A cleanup machine to remove the fluids, and debris.

A winning combo would be an indestructible(-ish) base power unit (low, with covered wheels and perhaps a flipper) with a set of quick-connect turrets geared toward the different style of opponent e.g., crushing jaws or power spike against Tombstone, a horizontal spinner and a vertical spinner where useful, all designed to interchange in minutes or seconds. It might save on replacement costs, too...

Military and law enforcement use robots for many things. Not necessarily for direct combat, but bomb disposal in most cases, as well as scouting and other various weaponized uses on occasion. Bomb disposal robots should be accessible to all law enforcement by now, its easy enough technology in 2021 for them to be able to safely check and disarm explosives.
