Killer Instinct: Anniversary Edition - All Character Costumes Comparison (Default vs Retro) - Side by Side - 4k 60FPS All the game captures, editing, thumbnail were done by me.
thunder classic missing his classic epic mohawk... smh microsoft. most of the og retro costumes are just lazy tho. the face models still look modern. some just look out of place like gargos n glacius. nothing like their og cgi renders like in the posters. fulgore is the one that looks good always tho. lol.
@@FreestylenyI don't think Spinal would be a good fit, considering he's just an esqueleton. Terminator and the Cyber Lin-Kuei at least have fake organs and "oil"
KI 2013 did switch studio and got a gorgeous graphical update, i think the old ki compared to nintendo stuff now would be a more interesting comparison
Fulgore, Glacius, Cinder and Maya's retro costumes are the best. Fulgore's colors also have company logos inside his chest. I remember his yellow color having a Rareware logo.
After seeing the last character I’m surprised they didn’t add Turok into the game. He a native that’s battled dinosaurs, demons and space aliens. His finisher should be him using the Cerebral Bore brain drill.
@@omegarugal9283honestly kinda surprised and disappointed they didnt have master chief in the game since arbiter was in there let alone with his original VA
They didn't because they wanted to get away from the bland stereotype of his first design. And since they went with Nez Perce, a Mohawk would simply be culturally incorrect.
@@MrMobiusfan well I didn't think it was a "bland stereotype" if anything it was bad ass. He had face paint like a warrior from spawn and his mohawk looked awesome, especially when used as a weapon. If you ask me turning him into just a "bland" common cliche biker look didn't seem to take that much creativity. It's like taking jago and putting him in a business suit.
@@cyklonus1 The reason it's a bland stereotype is because it was a caricature that had no connection to any actual native culture with the single exception of the Mohawk hair, but it wasn't made as a reference to the actual Mohawk people. It was just a "generic Native American" that no actual person has ever looked like. The new base design is better by light-years and the new "classic" design was a result of the people working on him genuinely feeling uncomfortable with recreating what would effectively be a racist caricature. Also, Jago in a formal suit would look great.
@@MrMobiusfan lol ok. Why does he have to "look like" anyone. So videogame characters can't have any individuality or creativity? Yes he's native American, but why does he NEED to be a part of a specific group? It's not assassin's creed with historical accuracy, it's a video game with fictional fighters, like a rock giant and a woman that turns into a glowing Jaguar that has no relation to Caucasians. He had bad ass face paint, killer tomahawks and a weaponized mohawk. My uncle and his children are Osage living on Oklahoma, can they not style their hair in various ways or only what an encyclopedia or certain people dictate??
@@cyklonus1 if you don't understand why someone might not be uncomfortable with putting a racist caricature in their game on the basis of that alone, I can't explain it to you.
Despite there being a werewolf, an alien that turns into liquid and a robot that looks like a plastic toy, the least realistic looking retro character is Orchid.
I understand that Thunder's retro outfit today would be in bad taste for the Native community, so it's not the same I forgot to mention that in addition to the default and classic design there is another design more similar to a Native one, just look for it
@UnoMasAqui As a native I'm pretty sure none of us would even get offended as we have much bigger and important things to get offended by lol and honestly I freaking love his old school mowhawk
The most diverse cast in fighting game history, second only to Darkstalkers. Never played KI but seeing the reaction of people like Maximilian Dood and hearing the music by Mick Gordon way back in 2013, I knew that this game was special. I do hope there will be a KI4 someday. Say, can you do a comparison video where the KI cast wears the matching accessories for each costumes that have them?
Hey, i apologize for a dumb question, but what makes KI 2013 different from 1994 and 2 in terms of gameplay? I saw some videos, 2013 can have Combo of more than 100 hits. I played 1994 and 2, but what makes 2013's gameplay different? I never played it so, i know it sounds dumb. I know about 2 having Bars and Special Moves, and this, and that.
KI is one of the rare games that can make new stuff, while maintaining the old retro vibes. I grew up with the old skins, but the new ones are still better imo. Same with the music, characters, almost everything. Its like this is just a heavily remastered version of the 90s game. Devs did a great job. The fact theyre still adding updates is nothing but respect
I like how the Retro costumes for the new characters look like they came from the 90s and Aganos being fully repaired and Rahm and Arby look like their older games as well
I love that they added retro redesigns for the dlc characters that were unique to KI 2013. I also think Spinal is legit the best redesign in fighting game history
Where the hell is Thunder’s Mohawk on the retro skin? Also I don’t remember him having a biker alt skin in the first game. He wasn’t in KI2 at least the arcade version.
Fulgore, Glacius, Orchid, Rash and tusk are my favorite glow up and retro Spinal, Cinder and Riptor is an honorable for me. Looks like they evolved, then a glow up
The only ones where I think I actually PREFER the retro is Gargos, just bc its a bit cleaner of a design. Aganos, Hisako, Aria, and the guest characters all honestly look equally good in either costume
@@victorcortez1059 considering the "retro" costumes for the 'newer' characters are for what they could have looked like if they were released earlier in time, it makes perfect sense.
Spinal is my favorite character from any fighting game. I just wish I could git gud at him. The only one I was good at playing was Riptor, not that I dislike her, i just prefer Spinal.
I'm mostly surprised all of these characters HAVE retro skins because not all of them have been in the franchise as long as the others. Sadira, Mira, Aganos, and Kan-Ra were introduced in this game so they hadn't been around long enough to be called retro.
@redacted2275 yeah i know, i just meant looking back at their original looks. Making the blunder of killing cinder off for the second game. was a mistake.
It's such a shame that Killer Instinct is primarily an Xbox game. I wish I could play this game on my PlayStation so I could try it out. And yes, I am aware that it's also available on PC, but when I did try it out, it had some of the worst lagging I've ever experienced. Plus, I'm not a PC gamer, as I prefer consoles like the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch over using a computer.
What happened to thunder? thats not even a throwback costume, that's just some new alt. Beyond that, i love the new comers retro outfits, they were designed to look as if they belonged to a never released KI3 that could come out in the early 2000s. Way simpler in design
