No Mercy, Humiliation and Ultra Combo comparison between Killer Instinct for SNES and Arcade by Rare/ Midway. The Arcade version is available on Xbox One. Didn't add the Gameboy version here, because it stuck out too much. Also, I didn't add Ultimate Combos, because it's basically just the No Mercys. It's one of my favorite beat em up franchises. It's basically for me what Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat is for others. In Killer Instinct, the main focus is using long combos, and breaking the opponent's combos, which set the bar for games like Marvel vs Capcom. It's not as gory as Mortal Kombat, but was still rated 18+ in Germany. I main Sabrewulf because of his punishing uppercut, and I don't know how I'd defeat the final boss without it.
Killer Instinct was shipped with an awesome soundtrack on CD, and a black cartridge.
Interestingly, there were several references to Killer Instinct in Donkey Kong Country 2. Cranky Kong has a Killer Instinct arcade machine and poster in his cabin. Also, whenever I see the skeleton hand and sword boss, I think of Spinal. Both games kinda have a similar vibe to it regarding the darker color patterns and setting.

You missed that Riptor's Tailstab is in fact in the SNES version. Glacius's Digestion indeed isn't, though. And the Human Torch's real name is Johnny Storm, and Orchid's "rave sticks" are lightsabers. Sorry for the nerding. Gotta admit it was an impressive try, though. Still needed like 2 more megabits for some missing frames and sounds, proper Ultra/Ultimate Combo announcements and Glacius's third finisher. There would've been no rescuing the Humiliation dances, though.

Not quite, the original plan was have the arcade KI in your home with the supposedly Ultra 64 being that powerful, well, after delays and obviously not being as powerful they couldb't do it but at least they made a very very good por fort a 16bit console

I remember going to the arcade and playing these and then going home and playing the same exact games on the SNES and thinking about how much better the quality of graphics there was and how Nintendo Power and some of the other gaming magazines were talking about how home consoles would one day be better graphics and higher quality than the arcade. I was so excited for it and it took forever. Now here we are… arcades don’t even hardly exist any more and we’ve got games so realistic some are almost indistinguishable from real life at 1st glance. VR is at the verge of being integrated into our daily lives (meta verse). It’s nuts how far things have gone

Interestingly, if Orchid flashes Orchid in a mirror match (at least on the SNES version), the losing Orchid will spaz out and THEN die. Not sure WHAT happens in the arcade.

Wow! Some Combos and Fatalities I have never seen in my life. I used to play Orchid as a kid of 10, when my older brother needs a victim to fight. So I had to learn her Combos to survive... miss Orchids Tiger here. 🤩 Man, what would I give to hold the booklet in my hands. Most people dont seem to know this but with TJ Combo, after hes done the ultra end punch, if you time your punch correctly you can still hit the enemy once while they drop down.

The combination required for ultras and humiliations are different for each character. The one thing required to do a humiliation is you *must* be on your green health bar, or else the combination won't work

Yeah its a cheat. I think you have to hold a button when selecting a character. Just look for the secret stage cheat.

You have to hold Down and Mid Kick on both controllers after character selection in VS. Also works in the arcade version, where the stage looks awesome.

@@MforMovesets Moreso cart size limitations. Official SNES games larger than 4 MB exist-they go as big as 6MB-but none were released in America because of pricing and time needed to localize such preexisting games. Dunno about Europe.

Arcade had much more power and data space. They had to reduce the frame number and sprite quality for SNES.
