Arthur: "You know much that is hidden o Tim." Tim: "Quite..." *randomly uses the staff as a rocket launcher and blows up a tree* I love his nonsensical antics XD
I just realized that the whole time Tim could have summoned an explosion on the rabbit and killed it. But the holy hand grenade was much funnier and I’m glad they left it in.
Well, considering that even Tim is scared of it, he probably already tried that. Hell, he’s probably tried many times. Also notice how he says, “It’s always the same” when mocking Arthur. I’m willing to bet that Arthur and Co. aren’t the first knights he’s brought with him to help kill the rabbit, and they’ve all had the same reactions: “Just a harmless little bunny.”
*Meanwhile in a parallel universe* “Keep me covered” “What with?” “The Holy hand grenade” “Oh right forgot we had that” “Really?, how did you not notice the literal alter following us around?” “Well I thought it was for praying sier” “Right keep me covered” “Oh look a rabbit” *Tim enters conversation* “That is the monstrous beast” And then everything continued like the movie
He always gets me since I was a child. I didn't even understand most of the context of this movie back then but the level of frustration and the fact that he actually got a point is fucking hilarious
"Then shall thou count to three. No more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four, shall thou NOT count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is RIGHT OUT!" These guys were simply GOLD! XD
"There are some who call me......Tim???" If you don't believe me, to the north lies the cave of CAER BANNOG where in, carved in mystic runes upon the very living rock, the last words of Ulfin Bedweir of RRREEGGET!
I love how "Tim" makes a pyrotechnic show everytime he says something! This movie is a masterpiece of british humor. I would like to add that the Holy Hand Grenade was my favorite weapon in Worms: Armagedon together with the Crazy Cows.
It's not just that he keeps on causing explosions while he speaks. The true joke is that he stops doing so the exact moment where it would be useful: When the killer rabbit appears :)
I saw the Chicago premier and two of the Monty Python were there! For the life of me I can’t remember which two. I believe Terry Jones but the other one escapes me.
This move is around 40 years old and every scene still makes me cackle like an idiot. Monty Python is timeless. Edit: it’s actually 50 years old this year
@@farhanrivin934 I think he meant, "Like what kind of mistake would it make?" Answer: Like building a giant wooden statue big enough to hide inside, offering it as a gift, but forgetting to actually hide in it.
@@computernerd1101 well, maybe it's been left ambiguous conciously, for additional comedic value xD P.S.: I think I forgot to read your whole comment, the last sentence shows a quite possible sentience on those matters on your part! ;)
as someone from antioch (modern day antakya, turkey) i really laugh hard. it seems like aside from hot and spicy meals we also produced ancient super weapons.
"...AND SAINT ATTILA RAISED THE HAND GRENADE UP ON HIGH SAYING; OH LORD BLESS THIS THY HAND GRENADE, SO THAT WITH IT THOU MAY BLOW THINE ENEMIES INTO TINY BITS... IN THY MERCY" FUNNIEST LINE IN THE MOVIE.
*"And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy."
I don't know why and I can't explain it but that line has stayed with me since I first saw this in 1977 when I was 12. LOL. It's so vicious sounding. I love it. I don't even quite know what "manky" or "git" means but it never stopped me from saying it out loud several times. Never to a person but when I catch my hand in a door or something along those lines. I said it recently when I locked my keys in my car. LOL.
@@NelsonClick I learned British jargon from the Harry Potter books, and a git is basically a person everyone hates, because they're completely or nearly incapable of being nice or pleasant. See Severus Snape.
@@NelsonClick I don't think he says "manky", but "mangy". Try looking up "mangy dog" and you will understand that "mangy Scots git" is a most vicious insult.
Wonder if they got the idea from Night of the Lepus (1972) where you have _giant_ killer rabbits ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lzzJx0a7WLE.html and yes it is as goofy as it sounds.
I know it's pretty common knowledge, but I still love the fact that Cleese was supposed to give this long and convoluted name for the Enchanter, but during filming he forgot his line, so he just said "Tim?" and everyone just ran with it (partially because of lack of budget for reshoots, and partly because "rule of funny")
More trivia: In Magic: The Gathering there is a card called "Prodigal Sorceror" in the very first base set that was released in 1993. He can be used to cause one damage every turn on anything you want. It didn't take long for players to give him the nickname "Tim" :)
I've seen evidence presented that maintains this "common knowledge" is false, sourced from original scripts and with a knowledge of how Cleese works, along with Cleese himself denying the rumours.
Anyone notice Arthur counts the three killed knights as 5 instead of 3...only noticed this on the 2nd watch after the hand grenade miscount...brilliant
"There are some who call me---Tim?" Hilarious how Sir Bedevere keeps lifting up his wide-open helmet grill as though it makes it easier for him to see.
I love how Sir Robin is suddenly brave when confronted with a rabbit and then suddenly cowers in terror behind his shield adorned with a chicken. Eric Idle...lmao
This scene has some of the most iconic and well delivered lines of the movie and I am so happy they didn't get rid of it. It was a very funny bit done extremely well.
I've forgotten how much I Love this movie! Used to quote it back and forth with my best mate Jeff. We loved to scream "Run Away!" when discussing girls we had crushes on, we loved saying, "We are the knights who say Nee!" when we were discussing philosophy and hit a deep point. We loved saying, "it's only wafer thin.." yes last is from a completely different film. Monty Python informed our youth, made reading history Cool, made understanding complex issues of government important and cool too. Thank you for this video. Thank you All of Monty Python for your love of irony, cynicism and silly walks!
You and Jeff are my kind of people. If the Many Worlds theory of quantum physics is correct then you, Jeff, my deceased best friend of 42 years Bill Gronroos and me are sitting around a table in one of them as I type this and laughing uncontrollably over a couple of beers following a double feature of Quest for the Holy Grail and The Life of Brian.
Alway good to Educate the next Generation in the ways of Python of Monty I'am not dead yet ! Still too funny :( In the way of dark Humor :) This has become a Classic like a well aged red 🍷 vino 👍🍷🥸😉
