She did it. She was lit on fire, and was quite literally being put to death, but she still didn't believe in putting the man who did it do death as well. She passed a law to save other victims, knowing it would not save her case, and yet she still did everything she could to help. With every single second of her life from then on, she fought everything. being in a coma, suffering burns, probably many organ failures though I am not going to look for it, she died 7 times, and kept fighting. And in the end, she did it. I am not embarrassed to say I cried. I do not feel weak for shedding tears. I feel empowered by Judy's sheer will to live. I feel loved simply from thinking of Judy. I may never have known her, but Judy will forever help me. So many people stay strong despite all odds against them. I hold these people in my heart. I may not change the world, I may not live a significant life, I may not effect much. But for what it's worth, I still try. I may not be an amazing person well known for anything. But that will never stop me from doing amazing things. Again, I never knew Judy, But with what I can do, I will fight to help her cause. I may not have much money to donate, But I have all the words my breath can say. We all do. No matter how quiet you feel, No matter what stands in your way, You can still say something. Not all of us can say something literally, But all of us can sure as hell say something with our actions. We all can say something. Even if you try and fail, The fact that tried in the first place says all it needs to say. If you try to help, your trying is enough. Not all of us are strong enough to climb the whole metaphorical staircase, Not all of us are strong enough to even set foot on the first step. But all of us have strength in one way or another to lift our feet and try. So next time I look up at the flight I have to climb, I'll just look at the first step and think of Judy. I've already climbed some steps, and I know I will climb many more. And with every step I take, I have even more reason to keep climbing. I am so proud of Kaylyn, of Madison, of Bonnie, of David, of Danielle, of Patrick, of Dan, of Sue, of Nicholas, of Joseph, of Mark, of Patricia, of her family, and I am so very truly proud of Judy. Stay awesome, stay kind, and take a few sips of water. You deserve it, every single one of you.

Being disabled, from head to toe, with pain 24/7, I know , I do not have the pain of this sweet lady. Thank you, Silly, for writing your comment. What you have posted has blessed me, greatly, to keep on keeping on. You see, I am a civil rights worker, who is feeling like throwing in the towel, getting so upset as I fight for civil rights, with 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Same. I had a couple of months in hospital last year and pain was a major issue. Got morphine and didn't even realize I had been given a maximum dose. And I don't think I had anywhere near as much pain as she must have been experiencing. That got my eyes going...

Oh boy was I crying. My daughter passed July 2023 from an aggressive and horrific cancer and was sick and in pain from it for over a year - pure torture. It brought me back to being in hospice with her when she passed. I can't get it out of my head. Judy was very strong and since for some reason I haven't heard this story I was hoping she pulled through. So sad.

I think it's possible that they could not adequately prove intent. It seems obvious now after we've heard Judy's testimony, but to charge him and not be able to prove it and have a jury find him not guilty of that charge could mean they couldn't take other actions later.

To be fair, the job of a defense lawyer is to get their client a fair trial and the man admitted he hated doing it. I try to remember that for every man like Michael Slaver, there are innocent people on trial who need a criminal defense attorney. And the lawyer said HE HATED DOING IT.

@@crfamily6946 Well, simply if the question was left unasked, and later the validity of her testimony in the first place was considered grounds for appeal. Basically as long as the culprit/defendant wants to request something, it's best to request it, even if you hope the judge says no. I do agree that it's unsavory, and I'd hope the lawyer privately agrees

I suffer from Venous Stasis Insufficiency. This means the blood in my legs does not circulate as it should and causes open wounds to develop. In 2014, both legs had to be surgically debribed. The pain was similar to burns because my skin was scraped almost to the bone. It was the worst pain I ever felt. As I look at Judy, with burns all over her body, the agony she had to be in is incomprehensible to anyone. This young lady, was a warrior beyond words. She fought torturous pain to be able to tell the truth. Rest Peacefully in Paradise Judy. No one will ever hurt you again. ❤❤❤

Thats the exact part im on & i was confused because they said she was going to a care facility & her mom said “ i will not sign these papers for hospice” & then said i will hold your hand until jesus takes the other, but hospice does not mean your theyre going to end your life. I got 3rd degree burns on my arm and just my arm. The pain was insane, I've broken bones and have had multiple kidney stones but the burn was the most extreme thing I've ever experienced. I can't even begin to imagine the pain she was in.

Being honest what happened to her was horrible yes.But she was a junky plain simple.Your not able to binge on opioids without being a monster.You have to hurt people to keep that habit up.She was junky looong before he showed up.Hes just a fact of that lifestyle.The kind of man only a drugg addict creates relationship with.Its horrible yes but she was absolutely not a saint.I had wife that binged on my pain meds even after brain surgery My 6 months of pain medicine after surgery lasted her 3 days.I was incapacitated didn't even know.In a way this is karma for both of them.I mean she binged on opioids then was pumped full of tgem by drs to stay alive.My x wife ended uo in prison her insides bursted from years of binging creating constipation.filling her intestines until it killed her.Universe comes full circle.

I once had a girlfriend who was divorced from an abusive man. About four months into the relationship she says he's gone through rehab, is in counseling for anger management, and she says she still loves him. Six months later the headline reads:: "Woman bludgeoned to death on her wedding night." He had gotten drunk at the reception, and accused her of flirting with one of his friends. The friend would testify at his trial claiming she came on to him. So instead of murder the guy gets 12 years for manslauter. The previous records of abuse were not allowed as evidence. Sad, all these years later.

As someone who was in an abusive relationship this was beyond brutal to watch. My ex tried to suffocate me when I was pregnant with our child. I just remember waking up gasping on the floor of our bedroom with him just standing over me staring at me with zero emotion, almost like he was disappointed I woke up. I was lucky to be able to escape to the women's shelter. Most women aren't as lucky as I was. RIP Judy ❤❤

What? I don't think you understand how the courts work. This is the prosecutors fault because they bring the charges. The judge gave the highest maximum sentence for the charges he pleaded to. She did her part. Prosecutors love to plead down so they can avoid a trial. They agreed to this plead deal because they're the ones that offered it to him.

The sad thing is that attempted murderers usually get less than 17 years, or even less than 11 years. Depends on if it's first degree or second degree, most states for second degree seem to be under 10 years of jailtime. So he would argue that it wasn't premeditated, that he poured gas on her but didn't expect it to kill her and such. So they would have to prove that he had been planning this and expected that it would kill her. But they can easily prove that he intended to disfigure her and the sentence is more than second degree attempted murder. I could be wrong, but that is at least my reading of the situation.

You would also have noticed that OP was referring to that because they said "judges" as in plural = several of them.

one of the biggest problems is the fact that a criminal like him was out of jail at all!! his record showed what type of person he was and did not deserve to be free to do this in the first place..our system continues to fail in so many ways...I am amazed at the strength and perseverance of Judy and her family..may they have a happy and healthy future, free from pain and mean cruel people like him!!!

Me too. I’m a 42-year old man and honestly I had tears in my eyes. I never get emotional about things but that story just rips your heart out. What that woman went through was incomprehensible.

Yep, me too, and I don't cry easily. It was heartbreaking. What this video made me realize, is how lucky I am. Even though life's been damn hard on me, it's nothing compared to what this poor woman had to endure. It made me appreciate life a bit more. I hope sweet Judy rests in peace. I also hope that her k iller will never have a peaceful moment again in prison.

Hearing Judy crying after being prevented from testifying was absolutely heartbreaking. This whole case was absolutely horrifying. Poor Judy. Her poor family. My heart breaks for them all.
