"Unknown by Herman at the time, the dolphin had been adopted by the pod of whales as a baby and was frequently used as bait to lure humans into the water. Herman's garbled screams were quite haunting."
@@Eztliz hopefully not any time soon. I have seen them do that to big water birds at water parks. Lures the bird close to the edge of the pool with their food Givin to them by the handlers.
It'd be surprising if they were that patient. The dolphin is small. It'd be boring and it could take hours or maybe the dolphin would never be able to unbeach itself. Killer whales need calories. Not enough risk/reward in that equation.
he helped the orcas, not the dolphin. doplhin was there for some reasons, to survive. it could easily go back to the water, but knew, that orca is waiting to kill it in the water
You ever seen the video of that orca at SeaWorld that takes the little fish it got from the trainer and tosses it on to the shallow edge of the pool next to a group of birds? Eventually one of the birds goes to swipe the fish and SWOOP, the orca grabs it and drowns it. The orca upgrades its snack from a fish to a fish and a bird. They're smart as shit.
Thanks for bringing the dolphin to his/her mother. I really appreciate it! I really love dolphins because their loyal, smart, and I also love their clicks and squeaks to communicate to each other!! ITS JUST INCREDIBLE! And also the orcas communicate to each other is also incredible
either way he would have died and he's suffering more being on land than he would have with the attack by the killer whales and it's what's supposed to happen its called the circle of life .
Doing good deeds like this is good for the soul. Being the beneficiary of a good deed, and seeing others do them helps remind us the world is not always dark and bleak.
Killer whales are very smart.....I wonder if they would come back at high tide (presumably, situations like this happen at low tide) and wait for the dolphin to swim out to deep water again? just a question...
I would never trust them though, even in the wild. They work in packs (or pods) and kill sharks on sight. Worst of all, they hunt whales who have young and they stalk them for miles. The mother whale will valiantly and bravely protect her baby calf, but the killer whales will separate the baby from its mother. Once achieved they drown the baby whale and just eat its tongue (a source of valuable nutrients). The mother whale then returns to her baby and is stricken by grief. Personally I would take great pleasure in harpooning the Orcas responsible for this cruel slaughter of an innocent. However, as we all should know, nature is indifferent. I will never trust a killer whale: if they're hungry, stressed or scared they will kill you, and they will eat you.
@@matthewhopkins4666 Hahah It's called nature PAL. Get over it. Lions kill Cheetah cubs for the heck of it. Why don't you start hating them too......Jackass who can't handle nature. PLUS Orcas have NEVER harmed a human in the WILD.
Joey Convery it is great but what about the baby orca that goes unfed this has been Nature's Way for billions of years why is it that man can intervene and it's okay? Yes I want to see a baby dolphin died on the side of the beach but what's the difference if he dies on the beach or an an orcas mouth is that something different to you I'm just curious because it's all natural selection.
Kokkelikirva doesn't matter if it's cannibalism it's not like they have a senate where they go and complain about the other workers and file a complaint
So glad you added such a profound statement to an otherwise uneventful moment. Perhaps orcas and dolphin should rehash the whole thing for your better pixel enjoyment.
Very smart animals there and the dolphin 🐬 decided it would rather die out of the water than be ripped apart by a family of orca's 🐳 and I don't blame the dolphin 🐬 😉 just shows the intelligence of the animals.
drizzal83 But the Dolphin had hope to call out for help of any kind. Dolphins are highly intelligent and are very social mammals they live in pods like what we would call families. Dolphins are one of the smartest species on earth their encephalization quotient gives Humans a run for their money, well as for life as we know it. Imagine a young boy stuck on cliff wouldn't he cry out as well?
Dolphins are much faster n more agile than killer whales they must have caught it by surprise, also it's very rare, at least I've never seen killer whales attack dolphins
@@meredithleavitt5815 Orca hunt with a pack mentalityA pod of Orca can and do hunt down sick and young whales.Hunting dolphins is reasonably common throughout the world's oceans.
The dolphin was like "No...stop! I don't need your help, I can get back in the water on my own. You don't understand" - As the guy throws it back into harm's way!
@Matthew Jamison Do you think they really moved of very far knowing the dolphin was beached? Hell orcas will follow a whale and her calf for days just to eat it's tongue. And they weren't in the middle of an ocean hence the shoreline.
@Matthew Jamison True but I really don't think it was hunger that motivated them in this instance. Think they were in it for the sport of it. Orca are so good at hunting they have to spend very little time at it. Now sport and games that's different that they will spend an incredible amount of time on. Almost like us doing something we enjoy something that excites and challenges us.
BRAVO!!!! May a dolphin save another human at next need of it, and the cycle continues. Lovely relationship we have with them. Very lucky on our part. For us, it feels fantastic on either side of that rotation. :)
Orca: Hey dolphin, enjoying that snow fall? We see you shivering. Dolphin: screw you. I'm going to grow my legs back and walk outta' here. Orca: yeah, right... in 15M years or so. We'll give you 15 minutes.
Such a great a man. Thank you for doing this. Dolphins are very intelligent creatures capable of high level communication. There are evidence that they have a language, a sono-pictorial language. Basically you just rescued a sapient being.
This just shows how smart dolphin's truly are and the reasoning capabilities they have it new it couldn't outrun the orcas so it chose to beach itself instead of being torn apart
I kno this a 3 yr old comment but I’ve always been fascinated with the fact that a dolphin can be caught by a orca. They swam at the same speed or what or is the orca fuckin faster than the dolphin? Bcuz if that’s the case then that shit ain’t fair at all lol. That big & ur faster than ur prey? Wtf. Aren’t dolphins much much faster than an orca my friend? Do u kno???
@@vegetaking1272 yes, you’re right dolphins are much faster, but orcas work together to hunt them! Orcas are as intelligent if not more so than the dolphin!
Orca matriarch : " if we just move off a bit and be silent then the stupid human will think we`ve abandoned the hunt and he`ll push dinner back in where we can get at it"
@@geraldsobel3470 no way... just pure avoidance of instant death. Self preservation in the moment...! You've been watching too many Flipper type movies...!? Lol. 'Flipper' & 'The Day of the Dolphin' spring to mind...!
Wow this was 8yrs ago but i was amazed how incredibly smart those creatures are. Those orcas were too big for the tiny 🐬. It still outsmart the orca though. Thanks for sharing
I think the relationship between men and dolphine actions to help each other have been going on for thousands of years. I think the assistance from this human will be communicated to others . That’s why you here dolphins protecting humans with sharks . Just a theory
Wetsuit guy thinks he did a good deed by putting that poor dolphin back into the water. Little did he know his good deed was giving them orcas their next meal! Good job wetsuit guy!👌
Killer Whale 1:"I can't see it anywhere" Killer whale 2 : "I told you, I was chasing it and it leaped out of the water but never came back down" Kw1 : "Suuuure, what like aliens abducted it or it grew wings?.....just admit it ya fluffed it" Kw2 : "I never! Am telling thee, last I saw of it was it leaving the water!" Kw1 : "Whatever....c'mon you can make up for it & get a seal......just don't let it fly away hehe" Kw2 : "Shut up!" Brilliant helping the dolphin....I applaud ya.
MK10R look it up they are classified as Delphinade which is the scientific term to classify them as dolphins and don’t call me restarted when I did not harass you in any way
The only things not on an Orcas menu are Humans adult blue whales and adult bull sperm whales.... even great whites aren't safe from orcas, orcas literally hunt them just to eat their livers.
@@Kakarot64. adult blue whales and sperm whales are also on the menu. Orcas will form coalitions, joining several pods together to take down these massive adults...usually around 70-80 orca for these hunts.
@@Mr10before9 Gtfoh with that bs lmfao. No orca pods in the world get that big to 70? C’mon now. Nobody is hunting an adult blue whale let’s get real nor a bull sperm whale. A pod of 70 orcas??? Yeah right smh
Definitely a more positive outcome than the one cited previously. That's what I was afraid of eventually happening. Not sure why my mind works that way.
What do you mean "would of". Don't you mean "would've" (abbreviation of "would have" About time most of you Yanks learned how to spell English properly! @@virtualtoughguy9202
Not necessary. I've dived off Norway with orcas, no problem, plus 14 foot tiger sharks in Fiji and Coco's Island and oceanic whitetips in the Red Sea, but used a cage at Guadalupe Island, Mexico when 15 foot great whites were in feeding mode on the local elephant seal colony.
So many Nature haters here. You can't improve Nature. Thinking predation is wrong or imperfect as if that other Nature hater, Walt Disney, had a better vision is just another type of Nature hating. Dolphins and Killer Whales aren't really enemies, because each has perfected the other. And so one might say they are, over the millions of years, long time lovers bringing out the best in one another in their incredible form and myriad other adaptations. Nature has always improved of predation. Death is arguably her greatest invention, WITHOUT WHICH LIFE ITSELF WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE. Critics and Nature haters need to look deeper and more profoundly. This is the best of all worlds. Think deep ecology vs. shallow thinking/ecology.
I believe that isn't that people hate nature. It's that in the natural order of Preditor vs prey, life so often ignores compassion. That's why when we witness compassion in nature, it contrasts natural order. You almost never see it, but, even in this case, it is possible they were in teaching mode, not hunting. They have been known to let their prey live.
Orcas: is this a blessing from the land Gods? *dolphin swim away quickly* Dolphin: Oh f*ck, oh f*ck, oh f*ck, oh f*ck, WHY DO THE LAND GODS HATE ME!!! Humans (aka Land Gods): well, our work here is done.
As he swam off, the baby dolphin was overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude that this strange two-legged land creature helped him back into the water... and a minute later he was overwhelmed with a feeling of being bitten into multiple tasty chunks as the waiting orcas chomped him
It's not really that happy of an ending I'm sorry to say. A baby dolphin without its pod will not fare very well. At that size, it might not have been weaned of its mother's milk yet.
Orcas are so advanced they were hiding still beneath the surface while telepathically telling Herman they left and to return the dolphin to the sea because it’s safe now.
