Killing Frank Horrigan(hard combat, hard difficulty, no companions, no turrents, no enclave help)

I spend over a hour doing this crap
There's two phases to my strategy. The first strategy is just to survive all the damage the turrents and frank horrigan can throw at you, until his ammo in his big boss plasma gun runs out. In the first turn, take your drugs, then break the turrent with the powerfist behind you until it breaks, and finally run into the corner. Inbetween turns heal/shoot the turrents until they are all dead, you can play hide and seek with the turrents so only one or two can shoot you at a time, don't stay in the open. Don't shoot frank until he runs out of ammo. Then the second phase happens when he's forced to use his knife, then you can sock his groin to get him down, then start crippling his limbs. At this point if you've killed his turrents and stay away from the door so the other enclave members can't shoot you through it, you've pretty much already won the fight, but he can always get a lucky crit and do half your health. His gun will one shot you with a crit, the max amout of damage its done to me in a single hit was 322, and that was double my max health.
I'm not a classic fallout build optimist, this was from my blind playthrough of 2, but using the turrents are for wimps who are afraid to fight.

Burst small guns/burst big guns/burst energy weapons put out the most damage in fallout 1 and 2. The gatling laser has slightly more DPS per turn than the minigun in fallout 1, but in fallout 2 the avenger beats the gatling laser/regular minigun. Imo tagging small guns, big guns, speech with 5 strength, 5 endurance(only so you don't fold to any early game attack)8-10 agility, and 4+ intelligence is probably the most consistent build you can run in one or two. Intelligence is the hidden charisma stat in fallout 1/2 because your dialogue options are put into tiers of how smart/dumb your int actually is and at 1-3 you get the retarded quotes. depending on who you talk to and for the majority of the characters they will straight up just ignore/try to take advantage of you at 1-3 int. I've always preferred raid boss builds with high int. Just get high endurance/intelligence and you can basically use whatever weapon in combat while still being somewhat persuasive because of high int, but I prefer not to tag speech, usually opting for unarned/small guns/energy weapons instead. Big guns is effective at 100
@Valcerv
@Valcerv Месяц назад
@@chettonexkinda why I prefer to avoid the super sledges, at least with the power fists they get knocked down right beside you so you can start kicking them while they are down so to speak instead of your game taking 14 seconds to load them teleporting across the room

@@Valcerv I used to take gifted and max int and agility with fast shot. Int gives you plenty of skill points to get high hit chance at range early on. You can do well with low st, ch and average en as long as you have 12 action points per round, sniper perk and avenger + bozar.
@Valcerv
@Valcerv Месяц назад
@@smieszek8080 I've banned gifted from my builds at this point. Imo it makes the game too easy, your character doesn't really have a weakness because you can get SPEIAL(fuck charisma) at 5+ so you are just playing like a raid boss. At least without it you either have to balance your build

@Valcerv

It has a 60% increased chance to critically roll a knockdown. For the majority of enemies with unarmed/melee I find myself just going for the eyes because it has a 60% increase chance to critically damage but for the tankier enemies(aka the deathclaws/the master/the loutennant/frank horrigan) I like to cripple their limbs/groin shot first because you are going to take a few turns to kill them anyway, and by that point I usually have the slayer perk which makes all of your melee hits critically hit anyway

@@lawrencefrost9063 I haven't watched it although I suspect it's part of the reason why this video has gotten like 20k views within a month. I don't mind the lighter settings if they set it at a different time period. Set it like 10-25 years after the bombs drop if you want it to be about a romp through a wasteland. Even in fallout 1, the cities and towns are more developed than anything you see in megaton or diamond city. They have trade routes with other towns and are actually making their own shit(farms exist in every town besides the hub where they survive off trading), atryun makes chemical/mechanical stuff, necropolis and the water merchants trace water etc. in 2/nv the major factions have invented actual governments/societies that last as well as advanced technology so they aren't just salvaging old shit. In 3/4 that take place around New Vegas, they still are scavenging like it's a year after the bombs when on the other side of the country the world has already moved on a century past them in terms of development

Companions are useless in this game (that's its biggest weakness). Maybe K9 and Sulik with a power armor, but all the rest is weak and have almost no use unless you play a dumb character with high charisma.
@SigurdGR
@SigurdGR Год назад
You just haven't learned to use them properly. Sulik smgs burst only; Vic assault rifle, PJ or HPFA; Cassidy HPFA, pulse pistol for close quarters. Markus can be added plus or instead of Vic later, just don't give him plasma rifle. Avenger or Vindicator best choice. Last one if you're not a burst build. But If you're, a pulse rifle then. NPC followers use aimed shots far too rare so the point is to provide them with the highest crit dmg burst weapons. All except Markus stay close mode in combat. It's like after your every turn you have up to 6 additional bursts with high dmg crit chance. It turns the most difficult game areas into cakewalk and makes traveling between towns much smoother at early stages, providing with loot and saving time. So if you want to go harder and slower don't use such tactics. Markus can deal up to 300dmg with Vindicator to Frank Horrigan for example.

Starting with 1 charisma, get the Brotherhood stat buff to 2 charisma, get Magnetic Personality perk at level 6 or 9 (can't remember which), pop two mentats and that gives you three companions. Vic with a gauss rifle. Cassidy with a gauss rifle. 121 science for cybernetic brain when crafting Skynet, then Skynet gets a gauss rifle. By the time you hit your 20's they'll have leveled up and gained enough AP to shoot twice per round. That's 6 extra gauss rifle shots. These boys crit, too. When fighting alone I can maybe kill 1-2 Enclave per turn. They will kill 1-2 Enclave as well. That's double the DPS, plus bullet sponges and mules. x2 DPS, +600lbs carry weight and +400hp isn't even remotely close to the same town as the ballpark of useless. Put them in hardened power armor early and become a death squad.

Hello sir. I have a video of doing this fight but without self-heal (hard mode). And I kill the turrets and the enclave soldiers. While being in the target range of all 3 (horrigan, turrets, and the enclave soldiers) - so no tricks using walls to assist for ambushing or protection or stuff like that. I was a bit lazy that day and didn't feel like doing the fight without drugs (jet, mentats, psycho, whatever else) - but I think the fight is easily winnable even without those, even while on hard mode.
@Valcerv
@Valcerv 5 месяцев назад
This was from when I did my blind hard combat/regular mode runs of fallout 1 and 2. By this point of the video I had beaten frank with the turrents/enclave solider and wanted to see if I could do it without any help. It was all blind so I did dumb stuff, I didn't know you could take an unlimited amount of drugs/reload on the inventory during combat, took garbage perks like bonus hth damage(bonus ranged damage is good in burst builds but from all my future runs you should stay away from bonus hth/ranged damage unless your specifically going burst fire builds), punch down doors with super sledge/power fist, needed charisma for companions(in 2) etc. I played the entire blind run of 1 and 2 not knowing you could target limbs/eyes/groin because I took fast shot in both 1/2. If I redid it today I woulda ran different specials/perks to make the solo raid boss unarmed build a lot more consistent. If you want to be a melee raid boss in 2 you can just run x3 life giver at 12 by saving your 3/6 perks and nothing will kill you since you get like 20-30 hp per level(a guy on classic fallout tested life giver vs dodger and dodger is actually better, I just like making the number go bigger), or just run a solo sniper/burst build but I've always hated that archetype.
@pupper5580

@@Valcerv I like simple runs so I don't want to mess around with unarmed builds. Perhaps in the future. I have no idea how you managed to get so much skill points having 3 intelligence. Let's calculate. 6 skill points per level. 27 levels. That's 162 skill points you should have to spend. Edit: Oops, you seemed to use double psycho, which reduces your int by 6. My bad. Sorry, smooth brain moment lol.
@Valcerv
@Valcerv 5 месяцев назад
@@pupper5580 Unarmed is my favorite weapon type but energy weapons/guns are obviously the strongest in any fallout game. The only build I know that can stay on par with damage per turn is that fast shot/bonus hth/10 agility build where you can do 10 slayer criticals per turn before jet and action boy/girl but that build has the obvious problem or not being able to aim. Once you get slayer its a mute point(unless your going for groin knockdowns/crippling limbs on tankier enemies) but its obviously a pain to go from 18 in 1 to 24 in 2 without aiming. When you run guns though you can always just vats eye shot to one tap most enemies besides final bosses. I always forget the chems too lol, kind of started chem minmaxing builds too. I'm a slut for points but not enough to take skilled. I read like every book during this play through I could too. I usually take 10 intelligence especially in 1/2 where intelligence is the actual charisma stat because depending on how smart you are depends on how well your character actually talks to people. For most players I think 4 is the lowest you should put intelligence because it lets you not talk like a oaf and gives you just enough skill points to get your tagged skills to 100. 1 int runs are always fun though.
@pupper5580
@pupper5580 5 месяцев назад
@@Valcerv I actually designed a melee build (for killing Horrian on hard mode). My traits were fast shot (doesnt prevent melee aimed shots) and gifted. I tagged light weapons, energy weapons, and big guns. I thought I would clear the game using other weapons and then kill Horrigan using melee. It's interesting in this game the only skill you need besides your weapon skills is speech (entering Navarro speech check & getting FOB speech check). And if you want to save points on speech, you can get the FOB through violence later. Oh and another skill you need is lockpicking, for getting navigation parts from Vault 13. You can use Myron for Science (100% science). You can use Vic for repair (100% repair). And you can use Sulik for early game outdoorsman (58% outdoorsman). You can skip doctor & first aid since you can just rest instead of using doctor or first aid to heal. Because of the reasons mentioned above, it is possible to lower your intelligence significantly, although doing so might make your early game a tad more difficult. Also there's the possibility of using mentats before leveling up for getting extra points, but it's probably not worth the hassle.
@Valcerv
@Valcerv Месяц назад
@@pupper5580sorry I just saw this. Holy shit I really did cuck my build without fast shot on unarmed, lmao. I usually put my int so high because I don't like to rely on companions for the checks and rather just do it myself. From a pure minmaxing perspective, I think 4 int is the bare minimum you need provided you aren't going to be chen abusing. At 1-3 intelligence in 1/2, you can get those retarded dialogue options where your character just grunts at people or says something random and most of the NPCs will distance themselves from you/try to take advantage of you so you get locked out of a lot of quests. There is a bug in 1/2 with withdrawal lowering your special allowing you to read more than the limit. The books will give you like 4 skill per read up to 90 or 91, then you don't learn anything upon reading. Example:when you get to 91 small guns on your normal character with no chem boost, get addicted to as many drugs excluding jet in 2 as you can(especially try buffout on small guns due to after 6 hours after use it lowers your agility), your agility will drop significantly and since your small guns skill is effected by agility, the skill will drop below 91. You can then read the books while the skill is below 91 to get more points. When your character gets over the addiction(aka when you travel to a new location) your character will get their normal agility back but you keep all of the skill points you gained from reading the books while you were addicted. I discovered this midway through the blind playthrough(this one on the video) and ended up jacking my book skills insanely high with it. You can also put the game on normal/hard if you were playing on a easier difficulty to do it again since normal is -10 all skill points, and hard is -20. I wouldn't recommend this strategy in 1 where there is a stricter time limit(on fallout 1 I use fixt and have all the mutant raid settlements on so after a certain amount of time in game those settlements get the bad ending where the super mutants kill/dip everyone.) in two though the time limit is 13 years so I doubt you could get to that limit unless you were deliberately setting out to do so. I just read the first aid books/doctor books because 13 year time limit. I did pump doctor to 100 cuz my character got addicted to jet and even though I don't like looking stuff up on a blood run, that fucking addiction never goes away so I ended up looking up how to get rid of it and found out with doctor 100, you can be smart enough in doctor to convince(well really tease his ego) to cure jet addiction.
