I am an old man, a widower to boot, who lives alone in a cabin on a mountain in Colorado, and music is my entire life, whether listening alone at home or dancing in town. A few months ago I belatedly discovered Radiohead's "Creep," and it immediately took me over, though nowhere close to my usual genre loves of blues, funk-jazz, classic rock, etc. It's the combo of powerful, meaning lyrics and repetitive but magical chord changes. Thanks to that obsession I found Scary Pockets with India's version ... and now I am totally obsessed with this group, even though many of the songs I had paid little attention to in their originals. It is what you bring to the songs that "kills me funkily." I will sign up with Patreon and can't thank you enough. Rotating singers keeps things fresh, though India gets my double attention.

I saw the infamous sandals of one of my favorite bass players in the world. Had to click for you, Sam. 💕

This is what happens when musicians think more about their skill than serving the song. This song is about a woman’s internal experience of being overwhelmed by the intimacy of connecting to a song, a performer, in public. It’s supposed to be uncomfortably bare and revealing. For more context, a struggling woman songwriter wrote this in the early 70s, worried and frustrated about not being taken seriously, never finding success. The reason the Roberta Flack and Fugees covers work is because they spotlight the experience of the woman having a meltdown in the crowd. Yip Harbgurg said “Words make you think thoughts, music makes you feel a feeling, but a song makes you feel a thought.” Respectfully, all I’m feeling watching this, is overwhelmed by the lack of space and overall one note dynamics.

Incredibly well done. India's rendition of Creep is beyond the pale. Such a wonderful voice and crowd. And, of course, Sam Wilkes' footwear never disappoints.

I definitely love listening to India's voice. Every time I stumble on some thing sung by her it's mandatory to stop and enjoy!
