Cool idea here to make this more effective: 1.) Make the square larger, much larger. About the size of a 2x2 canvas. 2.) Weld or attach a hanging hook to two sides of it. Make sure they are opposite. 3.) Change the press and hold button to an "on/off" switch. 4.) Grab some chains, go out on your deck, and center the square in between the railing and the wooden beam directly above it, drill the ends of the chain into both sides, and stretch them taut. Itll hold the square in place and upright. 5.) Get a cheap Lasko fan with an extendable base, a 16 inch or so would be fine, and place it in front of the grid on the deck, as close as you can to the lasers themselves. Face the fan towards you and away from the grid, and turn that sucker on. It'll create a suction vortex that will grab any mosquitoes and other flying pests that wander too close to the grid, and suck them through. Also, you don't need to worry about attracting them. My theory is that the lasers will transfer heat to the metal square, through the mirrors over time. And they will transfer heat to the mirrors themselves. Mosquitos can see thermal energy with their eyes (how they determine if something is alive and has pumping blood), so they will likely see the mirrors and metal being heated up, and fly on in to check it out. You have yourself an automated, laser grid, mosquito zapper.

the mistake is making it a racket and hitting the mosquitos, mosquitos are parasites and they can sense when we exhale, they actually find living things by sensing co2 when we exhale and they even look for the angle the co2 is moving because its always exhaled at a similar angle in most mammals, so they look for co2 moving downward at certain angles and also heat, that is how they are so good at finding us, you can actually buy mosquito traps that emulate humans breathing that use co2 and they trap the mosquitos inside, so if he used a co2 tank and put a nozzle behind the grid at a 45 degree downward angle that along with the heat from the lasers should fool the mosquitos and they will goto and linger around the grid long enough to get hit by it eventually, who would want to waste time tracking them down when you can bring them to you so easily.

The tracking laser mosquito net was very real, and was a proof of concept in a "tech to prevent malaria" challenge. It didn't track the mosquitoes by appearance, but by the frequency of their wing flapping. It used a high-speed camera and was so sensitive to this it could even differentiate between species of mosquitoes and kill only ones deemed unwanted (who wouldn't label all of them as unwanted?). With a proper powered IR laser you can easily galvo scan a large area (consumer ILDA galvos can hit 60k points per second) and toast the skeeters.

He might be able to repurpose the guts easily, but precision-maching the correct resonant cavity, tuning the electronics to match it and putting it all together just-right is an enormous endeavor. Magnetrons are complicated as hell. The fact that anyone can buy a microwave for few dozens is a miracle made possible by economies of scale.

What if you used an revolver style set up for the iron man hand blaster? Using 22.c blanks like you did for the jumping thing? You would be able to make it offset so the chamber is centered. And for the thrust you could also use the gas to. So pushing gas through an separate tube maybe a small 5-10mm tube which ould cause for the affect of the fire ball. And the force of the 22.cal blank could fire out a projectile. Which you could use an resin round with an ld and an small cell battery to make it like it. Using an magnet to separate the cell from the led inside the resin round and then when it fires it releases so it looks like an bright white or blue bolt firing. There's also another youtuber who is the chemistry guy who uses lasers and electricity. He recently did one video where made points about current etc. He could make the one the bad guy had with the whips. Iff he made an fiber glass style whip with long strands of conductive metals inside (hair thin) and made then separate an say one inch gaps and just close to he surface. The lightning bolts would travel along the surface allowing for the arcs to travels. When he whips it to the grown or an metal object it would create the plasma sparks. The projectile for the Aron man glove is fair given he used micro missiles on the top section (from the back of the hand). Also as an fuel what about using an mixture of gas an O2. It's an 15% methane to 02 ratio for an explosive reaction (variable). There are solid state fuels but you could make capsules like he co2 capsules to hold the hydrogen and O2. And using the switch system you could press one to fill the other to fire. I'd say using the finger switch to fill with the gas and the one on the wrist to fire both the gas and the blank. This would mea that you could make it to fit in the exact sizing as the iron man suit. If you wanted to be more technical you could like at firing plasma bolts. If you can find an way to separate plasma (as matter) and using an electromagnetic setup to reverberate this matter bac and fourth under an smell area. This would create an large pressure (void) which when you cancel out the opposing force you release all this stored energy in an quick burst. The problem with the plasma is well is plasma. But you could also consider using an non magnetic metal with an magnetic jacket and using em fields to create it to spin at an high speed and then use propulsion to fire it out. Like the 22.cal idea but using either the gas of even an low size high energy rail gin affect. If you was to line the arm section with capacitors to store the energy you could use these to create an high release of energy. Maybe even using electro magnetic plates. Causing them to smash together to create the energy. Thi could also b use in space. Using the funnel in the middle and releasing an small amount of gas (even co2) could create enough of an vacuum inside to allow the fluctuations to push the gasses out at an high force. As an engine this would work because it's an larger source of power. Which can use the solar power to store power. As an hand held device air resistance would affect this so it'd not b as good. Like an em drive.. You could also use atomisers to create H2O and O2 from water as an continual source of gas to power the system. Though I think it'd be better to have capsules which you can change out like the co2 capsules. I hope thi all makes sense.. Kind regards Rachael-Louise.xx

You could use an tungsten plate to protect your palms. Iron man used ex military surplus in an mountain cave. Some weapons use tungsten as an tip (rounds etc) and his scatter bombs could've been tungsten based to. The one where he stands in front of the plane..

1. You only need one kill laser. 2. You don't need perfect squares. 3d print something you can fine tune with screws. Glue the mirrors on that. 3. That laser engraver is far too strong. You only want to kill bugs. 4. Make the frame bigger. 5. Pulse the laser. 6. Add a second low power cheap infrared laser. This detects something crossing its beam, and immediately pulse the bigger laser. This means you can leave this running 24/7 without eating up the lifespan of the kill laser. The detection laser is lower power, last longer, and is cheaper to replace. And using lower power and pulsing means you can use regular cheap mirrors, so you frame can be as big as a door.

I have a better idea that needs only one laser and one mirror. Attach a small front mirror to a small motor and aim the laser to the rotating mirror so the ray covers the whole "hole" of the racket. That way you don't need to form a grid. Dangerous anyway, but you always need to stop the laser somehow with something black like you did with the grid. You could try it first with a low power laser to check the result.

@pauljs75
@pauljs75 8 месяцев назад
Was thinking of a way to do it with two parallel mirrors and a nearly perpendicular entry angle, but given the quality of mirror needed your idea may be much cheaper. Just need a tiny mirror mounted at 45° on the end of a high speed motor shaft to ensure a practically inescapable sweep rate. Combine that with circular shroud to absorb the beam and a large fan to draw the insects in. (It sounds workable enough that I wonder if that already has a patent?)
@zlac
@zlac 8 месяцев назад
old barcode scanners use a single laser with motorized mirror going back and forth so fast you see a line. I'd use that as a source and just supercharge a laser! Edit: Mirror is not motorized, it's on a spring and has a magnet, and then a simple solenoid shakes it really fast!

thoughts: 1) I would have 3d printed the racket. That way you could go larger and get the right angles you needed easily. 2) prototype with a green laser pointer, one of the good ones that doesn't leak IR. I would only add a higher power laser as a final step, once I had a really tight mesh. 3) Investigate how low a power setting you can go with and still do enough damage to ground them.

I thought I saw that presentation, I was under the impression that they used the frequency of the wingbeats to identify and target the target (the wings would reflect light which the camera detected as a flash).
