One of the most underrated films. Brilliant filmmaking appreciated by people with more than half a brain

I liked how this film didn't seem glamorized. It seemed pretty down to Earth and realistic for a gangster film, at least to my eyes.

Rip to Jimmy and Ray we lost legends

I feel like this is one of those films where its title is what weirdly kept it from being a hit.

One of my top 5. The supporting cast is spectacular. Ben Mendelssohn is spectacular. Truly grubby role.

Brad is a great actor. But James wouldn't even have been upstaged by Brando. And ironically as I white this the director mentions Brando. James was iconic. A legend who went too soon.

Good movie, but a couple things here @Annapurna: when Markie gets killed, Jackie uses a Browning Hi-Power chambered for .30 Luger, which is a WW I era caliber no longer in common usage. Assassins generally speaking will not use uncommon weapons and calibers as they are easier to trace, unless they're Bond villains. Also, to film the spent cartridges ejecting from the weapon in slow motion, clearly revealing them as blanks (notice the crimped ends) is an incredible rookie mistake. If you need someone on a future film that knows something about guns, let me know.

On seeing the film I found it almost hard to believe just how much the screenwriter/director DIDN'T understand Higgins' novel, a resolutely UNPOLITICAL work the "auteur" determined to make about the economic crisis, "a failure of regulation," or some such other nonsense. Higgins' very non-dramatic stories aren't the easiest to turn into "plays" of any kind (for the screen, or--god knows--the stage, were anyone crazy enough to attempt such), but this guy ham-handedly imposes an entire ideologically-driven "meaning" onto Brad Pitts' character and his dialogue that has nothing to do with anything the novel is about in any way, shape, or form. Fortunate for the final product, the source material and the actors bringing those characters to life bring ALL of the fun, saving it from unwatchability--assuming you can ignore everything involving the American economy, the socio-political climate, the world around us, or whathaveyou. Ideological Hollywood at its crudest and most obvious.
