Love the videos but you gotta cut some of these resorts some slack. When killington gets a 66 you know something’s wrong with the system. Cmon, you’ve ridden most of the best ski resorts in America and nothing has gotten above a C minus?
I’m guessing you really didn’t explore the mountain if you rated it that low…that’s ok, never heard of you and found your opinion way off base. Since I feel you got this wrong, there’s no need to watch any other video you may have made since that is probably wrong too.
While Killington has a lot of groomers, they also have a lot of ungroomed trails and natural trails. Three years ago, I took a afternoon break and got a free pizza from a kitchen employee. I had a season pass there in college.
If you dont have the Ikon pass, the best way to get a good price is to join a ski club, they give you a sheet of different VT resorts showing which dates you can get a good price (typically $75). We always say we “live by the sheet”
You didnt even mention the woods... thats like the part that makes kilington great. I mean i agree the peace park is amazing, but the woods are like no other.
@@TheCreditShifu it was definitely a big powder when he came. That said for killington you really need to know the mountain well to learn the woods and which lines to hit. If you only have one day (and you’ve never ridden mountain before you’ll just end up frustrated and lost and wasting time.
The beginner to expert parks within Killington are the best progression on the East by far. You can find them all over the place when you explore more on your second trip.
Lodging deserved higher. The best part of being there is the lack of resort feel. The shuttles are great and we were only about 200 hundred yds from the nearest lift
My biggest issue with the mountain (super nit picking, it's a great mountain) is the vertical drop. The TRUE vertical drop is more like 1700. Look it up online, there's some maps showcasing what I'm talking about
If you live close to NYC, theres an Amtrak train that goes directly from Penn Station, NYC to Rutland, VT. 5.5 hr train but only 70 bucks, something to consider if you're looking for alternative to flying! (Rutland is like 10 min from Killington)
and cheap places you recommend staying near the resort? and would you recommend Killington for first time snowboarding. I live in central nj. Is there a better resort around my area? Trying to go by the end of Jan or early February
@@fordaculture5014 I also live in jersey, there aren't any better resorts around but if you are a beginner I would save a trip to Killington till when you have more experience, Mountain creek is decent and in vernon, theres no point going to a massive resort as a beginner
rutalnd is about 20-25 mins from killington. and if youre coming from nyc u might as well drive. it cost me 75 in gas to get there in 4.5 hours. if u take the train then u have to call a uber. Edit : the 75$ in gas was for there and back . 32 to fill my tank
I'm not a fan of the lodging score because not only does it bring smaller mountains down but it also hurts these mountains like killington even though killington has so much lodging it's just not ski in and ski out. I think very few ski resorts have ski in and ski out lodging let alone 2 ski in and ski out hotels
Places to eat: Sushi Yoshi off mountain, Jamaican Jerk shack on mountain, Waffle Huts on the mountain are a must. Nightlife: Pickle Barrel night club, there are quite a few pubs/taverns on and off mountain. Lodging: One large ski in and out resort, also ski in and out condos, rental properties and a ton of places to stay on the road leading to the resort. Anything below the resort and condos is not ski in ski out. Some rental properties are an exception. Going this season and totally stoked.
Just here to say I love that you and Lucas Catania are connected! I have been a subscriber for a couple seasons now and as a skier would love to see you promote some skiers on your channel. Expand the huckHouse!
Please do more steamboat videos I know it is a long drive but I’m from the Midwest and Steamboat has a special place in my heart so if you can make a trip out there this season.😁
while Killington doesn't have bowls or big mountain riding it definitely has sick terrain. You just gotta search a little bit. Theres so many dope trees that will have powder days after a storm. Also there are so many gnarly double blacks, that'll challenge any rider, you gotta find the best ones though
Killington was the first place I ever went to after learning on grim dry slopes with nails and moss growing out of it in the UK LOL. That was in 2010. So glad I went. Only got back into boarding recently and still got it. Would love to go back.
Someone saw my sticker at Wolf Creek today and mentioned they saw your Wolf Creek review. He thought you were a bit harsh. Told him to watch some of your other videos and he’ll become a fan.
@@JohnathanBuckhouse it’s at 15” right now. I went yesterday and it was great. They have a few more lifts open. Still need more snow though. Right now they are open Wed-Sun.
Hey Johnathan! Could you make a video kinda showing your helmet and goggle setup? Like how to properly wear the goggles under your helmet. Thanks man love the videos!!
Ive been to Killington so many times! Always lived really close to the sky ship gondola so it was really convenient. I definitely recommend going there and it is definitely worth your money. Great Eastern was a blast :D
Lol we get 4 maybe 5 months of riding a year. Obv nothing on the east coast is gonna have a 3000 room hotel on the property. Once again comparing it to west coast. I really think you should base the scores off of west coast vs east coast. Bc its two completly separate things
Check trails like north start vagabon and sorroundimg woods catwalk is also fun so is power line check out southridge and bear mountain tons of fun natural trails to explore
One of my favorite mountains and actually doing my first ride of the season in a week and a half up there! I'll be tagging photos and vids on instagram for you my man! Can't even say enough about that place. Truly one of the best I've been to.
I can't believe I missed the premiere of this one...been mostly off-line. YES! Going to the BEAST for 6 days 12/20 - 12/25/2021 (on Ikon Pass)! Can't wait!
Trying to get lodging on the day you arrive to a big resort is just poor planning. It’s not the resorts fault. In regards to food, Flannels in town has the best pulled pork mac n cheese!
I go up to killington a lot it probably my main mountain to go to and when I take trips there we rent out air bnbs, they have quite a few on the mountain and the access road. They tend to fill up quick though so you have to plan and book by the end of October or else your not gonna get one if the nicer houses, at least not I. January of February. We have only done that trip a few times, most of the time it’s a day trip.
Killington is easy to go to. Its in central Vermont. I It’s 1 hour off if 91 and 50 minutes off of 89. They have a ton of lodging on access road less than 10 minutes away from the mountain.
Hey John I have a question because I recently got a new board and I realized-it’s a POW board and I don’t ride POW do you think I be fine riding groomers with.
4 on easy of access is criminal. The resort is an easy 4 hour drive from three of the largest metro areas on the continent (NYC, Montreal and Boston). It’s quite possibly the MOST accessible major ski resort on the continent.
He’s coming from CO where you can fly in and take a shuttle for an hour directly to a resort, surrounded by other resorts. So the 4 hour trip that you need to plan yourself would kind of make it a lower score, naturally.
@@Dluiogbre it’s within a 4 hr drive of 45+ million people... the entire state of Colorado has what, 6 million people? And LOL going over Loveland pass from Denver is NOT an hour anytime of the year, ESPECIALLY in the winter. On a powder day you’d be lucky to get to winter park in four hours from Denver.
@@pacodefrancis7235 my bad, I’ve only been to CO once and stayed at an airbnb with a friend from the area. I got lucky with a 1.5 hour drive from Denver area to just outside Abasin (was a Friday morning), so I should take my luck into account. I’m on the east coast though and can see that it’s amazing for us to access... But that’s just it. People traveling from outside the coast is a rough travel. Involves flying, renting cars, driving 2 + hours. He gave it an almost average score, which is fair with his other rankings. An ideal 10 place is something like Park City where (I believe) it’s right next to the airport. Or the high score he gave Big Snow for being near a large city, with transportation going to and from it, and 20 minutes from an airport. So in comparison to areas like that… if killington warrants a higher score, how can you rank those in the same category? If you were from out of the area and wanted to visit Killington, it’s more than a hop and a skip away. I guess on the flip side, you have a point on that it is “Ease if access” and not “Amount if time needed to get there”.
@@Dluiogbre there’s some truth there yes. Park city is not too close to the airport, but Alta and Snowbird are very close to SLC. But because they’re so close to both a fast growing city and a large airport they also attract huge crowds, especially when the conditions are good. To a degree it’s a pick-your-poison. Personally I’d rather be driving 3 hrs on an open road than stuck in a traffic jam for 3hrs in the canyon leading up to Alta/Snowbird.
Yo Johnathan what’s up!?!? I just wanted to reach out to you quick.
